Thought Hickey still smashed him in the Ruck when he was out there, the numbers looked good because he smashed Amartey once he went off, still think its very likely Stef comes in at some point to give him some genuine Ruck support.
Smashed is a bit much, even before Hickey went off English was a lot more competitive in the ruck than last week. Besides, Sydney's mids were so bad in clearances I don't think it matters.

what do people think of the English bump? Blakey was going to run straight into him so it was a defensive action, but maybe one that could be deemed too physical? also not clear whether he got him in the chest or head.

Got up and played on luckily. Probably looked at and fine at most though who knows these days.

Sweet was only emergency because Stefan Martin was out with COVID protocols.

Stefan Martin might've actually played this week after last week's ruck disaster if he was available....

Cheers I didn't know that about Martin but I don't think he would have played anyway, last year his hitout win % was 32% (close to last in the league), so he is unlikely to be the answer to any ruck issues at the dogs at this stage in his career. Also whilst they lost the clearances to Carlton they easily beat Melbourne, English has shown to be very good at clearances as essentially another midfielder in there. They also smashed the swans in clearances last night. When you combine this with his around the ground work, he's clearly a much better ruck option atm than Martin or Sweet (he had a better hitout win% than Martin last season and was 0.7% behind Sweet and looks improved this year) and the only reason why I can see another ruck coming in is because they need English forward due to a lack of firepower down there (which is possible). If they had a better ruck outside of English I'd see his job as under threat (as first ruck) but I don't think the other two are any good. They may still try to play Martin for a few games but I don't see it lasting.

Free against, in a contested situation: -1
50m penalty against: -5
Hard ball get: 3
Effective handball: 1

That adds up pretty fine to me
Points aren't fixed, though. The 50m he gave away directly cost his team a goal in a high scaling period of the game. I've seen players lose more than 5 points for doing something similar. Just like how a goal can earn a player more than 8 points in a clutch situation.

Even if we use the basic scoring, he was on 92 when he gave away the 50m, lost nothing, got the contested handball and went back up to 95 which is where he finished. Even using the points you listed, the contested handball should not have cancelled out the 50m penalty against, let alone earned him points. There was also enough of a lag (over 1 minute) between him giving away the 50m and getting the contested handball that we should've seen his score drop, but it didn't. A few people in here were even speculating if CD just completely missed it.
