Peoples thoughts on Thompson vs Khamis? some chance Bruce replaces Khamis by round 14
I was going to say thats a fair way away, it not. 3 games a bye and you are there.

Rory looks good for 40-50. 200cm KPP. Think we just slowly pick one each week and hope we hit it.

skipped Carroll for that reason. Although Cooper Ham was 2nd choice. Yet even forbhim, his main competition for a spot, Stein, had a solid game in 2nds.

Who are these better downgrade options? Charlie Dean? Will Kelly? Josh Worrell? Matt McGuinness? Sam Skinner? Will Gould?

I don't know how we can reasonably expect these guys to come in and start pumping out better scores than Khamis & Rory Thompson...
We have a mid season draft in two weeks and theres a fair few ready made defenders that will get picked up, I'd put pretty good money that a guy like Marty Hore ends up a better pick than Khamis or Thompson or any of those other blokes yet to debut, especially if North pick him up and play him immediately having been in their system all year long in the twos.

Would love to move Cogs and or Whitfield but I need to hold at least for now and pray to the SC gods for a small miracle.
The small miracle may just be Eagles and Roos in the next three games and a new coach.

Im hoping to keep them until after the byes and then flick the worst preforming to the best preforming in their line.

Mid season draft is June 1, absolute best case scenario is they play that weekend which I would think is highly unlikely but let's presume they do. With a bye 1 of the next 3 rounds from there then they will be on the bubble round 15. Unless you plan on going early on of them early then 5 weeks to wait in the hope one of the mid season guys is a better option than what's available right now is a long time to wait, especially if you have McCartin, De Koning and NoD still like me

I'd honestly be surprised if North favoured Hore over a talented longer term prospect with their high pick in that draft.

It's probably not a situation I'll be holding my breath for.

Just realised James Rowbottom was offered a 1 match ban by the MRO which he is appealing.

If the 1 game suspension stands, I wonder if the swans recall Dylan Stephens... (yes I still have him :LOL:) That BE of just 1 would mean a nice price rise if he just gets another game. Not sure on his reserves form @wogitalia - is there any chance?

This week
Hinge to Thompson
Martin to Smith.

Not sold on Smith as a midfielder maybe M8 worst case but DPP would make it a very good pick if it happens.

Next week.
SDK to Cleary
Daicos to Zorko/Rich/Sicily

Complete team or probably should say all rookies off field. Still carrying Whitfield, Cogs, Butters but slowly upgrade them to the best on their line after the byes.

I got Thompson slightly ahead. Both not great scoring but Thompson mature body with better JS. Would leave both alone but think unlocking the defence rookies is important to continue upgrading other areas.
Thompson could certainly be better but he also had bad durability in years before his injury (could o***et the js benefit relative to Khamis) and he played 3 games in the vfl before returning, were they just to get back to speed or was he behind someone else ?

Dogs have alot of guys that are clearly in their best 22 to come back into the side, Khamis probably bought himself a week or two but there's no guarantees any further than that for mine and he has a horrible bye for most teams.
Think right now my preference is to hold those defenders through the byes and wait for better downgrade options to present themselves hopefully through the mid season draft, don't see much point downgrading to guys with terrible byes that either have terrible injury history, questionable job security or scoring potential, got enough rookies already in the side that are next to useless for me.
Am I the only one that doesnt think either is a great option? Just feels like we are settling for more average selections just because they are there at the right time.

Round 13 byes, Thompson has virtually missed 4 years of footy and is always going to be 50/50 at best to get through week to week in reality and doesn't have great scoring potential these days anyway.

Khamis is a pretty raw key position player that took 3 goals to get to 66, theres going to be plenty of days where he struggles to get to 40, not to mention English,Bruce,Hannan,Weightman,Garcia,Johannisen and Wallis all return to that forward line mix within about a month and are probably all picked ahead of him at this point.
I completely agree - I almost think it's better to downgrade to a DPP floating donut that can be used for loopholes. If you're going to end up with a non playing player that has made next to no cash, at least lean into it and get one with flexibility and a useful fixture!
Floating donuts is not something I would personally do at least until after the bye rounds, especially when Covid and the Flu are ripping through the clubs, need as many guys playing as possible right now.
History shows (someone did the analysis in prior year) that after about round 8-9, the quality of rookies falls away sharply in terms of money making and JS.

There is always a small few who do well, like Brambles last year.

Maybe with less debuts this year, there is a better tail coming through.

We are settling for average selections, just a question is if the next batch is below average.

agree on Kharmis, probably 40-50 many weeks, seem to offer more that JUG and Bruce is about a month away. Weightman longer. O'Brien maybe forward maybe back, English back probably means Sweet out.

Too much cash to be holding if you mean holding McCartin, SDK etc, there’s no other rookies coming

I don't know why everyone is so keen on finding def. rookies, surely there's an opportunity to hold either McCartin or SDK or even both with DPP flexibility, ie: one in the fwds. There's been a whole raft of rookies to come in over the last 3-4 weeks who will all add cash (to 1 level or another) I would think that most coaches have a full def line by now and the cash that's been made by other rookies should be enough to finance the upgrades needed which should be only 2-3 from this rnd.

I only have SDK, so my thinking may be a bit skewed, but both SDK and Paddy are pretty good scorers to have as bench cover with their DPP status.

RD13 Kelly or Merrett?
By then we should have a few games sample of how the caretaker coach will use Kelly and if he will see a scoring increase.
I think Kelly has the higher ceiling but Merrett the durability and should be more bang for buck after his 57.

For me, after Steele went down it's between Kelly, Walsh and Parish though.

He's scored 150+ in 2 out of the last 3 games, what I would like to see is some continuity in his role.

Bruce is 4-5 weeks listed, Vandermeer longer.

Cleary came into the side and looked good for a cheaper defender. Tim O'Brien is 1-2 weeks with a calf, could he go forward or does another defender go out.

Not sure if any Bulldogs supporters with better knowledge. Challenge of Buku is few possessions, 3 goals for 60 odd. Looked good and should get a couple more games. Hurt by the 50m penalty too.
Like Rioli he played well against the Pies. He'll probs score a 20 against a better side.

There could be huge upside if we are willing to take on the injury risk.
Like you say, we get a chance to view him leading up to the bye, if he looks the goods I think many coaches who are not ''trade poor'' will jump on.
