I don't know, but I'm going to guess that it's partly because Fremantle have a much better defensive set up and overall team. He's not being relied up as much, now the load is spread a bit more.

Could be completely wrong. Resident Dockers fans?
Yeah I think this is probably it. Better settled back 6 with Young, Clark and Chapman the distributors. Better team this year so he isnt getting those continued repeat inside 50s from the opposition to rack up the intercept marks with either.

Also looks like he is making almost double the amount of clangers this year (3.1) to his best year in 2020 (1.7), what that's attributed to I couldn't say, but obviously contributing to his lower SC scores.

From memory picked up an ankle injury in the North game which might've lingered a bit into the GC game, so that might've impacted his scires a bit over the last 2 weeks.

Currently have SDK and Gibcus sitting at D7 & D8.
I plan to drop Gibcus down to a def rookie to facilitate an upgrade for Laird.

As with most people - I'm seeing the lack of defender rookies. I'm wondering whether it's a smart play to look at grabbing Akuei from Carlton at $102k Def/Ruck instead of getting likes of Buku / Rory Thompson who's SP or JS is pretty average.

By doing this. I maximise the cash gen to allow Martin straight to Laird. And then when the time comes to move on Sam Hayes from R3 after he serves his purpose in the byes, I can target the best rookie option down back then and use Akuei as my captaincy loop in R3.
This would mean I'd have 6/8 bench players playing, so I've still got plenty of cover.

Kind of feel like this is my best choice and then can hope that there's some ready-made defender rookies grabbed in the mid season draft that are better cash cows. Thoughts?

I like the theory but with potentially a few ruck/forwards looking like good forward picks I wonder whether having a R/F R3 is more beneficial longer term? Also worth keeping in mind that with Carlton's resurgence this year they will probably get a few thursday/friday games in future fixture blocks which could derail the plan. You could potentially do a D/M player (Uwland perhaps) that can then rot at M11 across the second part of the year? It'll be rare that you'll need 3 mid bench spots for cover, so seems like the safest way to do your plan? Could also look at Mountford from West Coast as I doubt they'll get many early games in the run home so could be a good loop option.

My issue is i've got Brady Hough sitting on the pine in mids who was just a bad pick. thought the Eagles would keep blooding young players then he got dropped and hurt his back after only one price rise. So sitting around $150k - ideally he finds another game or two before I move him on, but I don't want to have 2 mids not playing.
I hear you on the carlton fixture though - that's a fair point.

I might roll the dice and do it. Mainly because I need a few wins in the next few weeks to cement myself in top 4 in cash league. And this way I can bring in Laird and hopefully set myself up for a good few weeks with minimal rookies on field other than one each of Clark/Martin and Daicos/SDK

Ah yep that makes sense - I reckon back yourself in. It's a sound plan and you know the risks.. but the upside is good. Plus it's always better to be wrong backing yourself in that the other way around. Good luck!

Bad idea. You want as much flexibility as possible. D/M is a much better idea. I'd also pick the most likely to play even if it's only a faint chance.

Steele to deal with.

1.- S. Hayes (BE 10) > Clark
- Steele > Wines
- Daicos > Sicily +19k
(Hayes still has money to make, ideally I'd hold him over Dixon, but Hayes extra cash needed for that combo)

2-Dixon > Clark
- Steele > Trac
- Daicos > Dawson/Sinclair = 47k
(Dixon has maxxed out, so he's the ideal cow to trade, still good premos, more $ left for further upgrades.)

Still working on my situation and trades from now through byes.
With two boosts left it's possible to make 3 trades over each of the next 5 rounds, (not that I necessarily will every Rd.) so the above is part of a work in progress - I'll need to consider overall context of finalised (hopefully) team, after the byes.

@Shaunpro1

Think you're probably right about the extra cash. Other upgrades, and problems to work out.
Just realised there's another alternative in option 2 re. Dawson/Sinclair in Hewett?
