People point at my injury history and say "hmm no", but I've played more games than Josh Dunkley in the last three years.

People say I'm inconsistent, but I scored 5 100s in a row last season, consistency that Rozee, Taranto and Darcy Cameron have never managed.

People say 'never again', implying that my performance and scoring pattern are set forever, but I'm only 22.

I see a lot of upside, but I'm yet to see a team on here with Zak Butters...:cool:
People smell an injury risk future..

Defence - I had to make savings somewhere and this seemed the logical choice.

Midfield - I think LDU is due to step up in the scoring and Hopper was brought to Richmond for a reason.
I see it as a make or break year for Duursma so I expect him to play.

Ruck - Hardest line to pick, not sure how the new bench setup will affect scoring, does that mean teams select 2 rucks or 1 ruck and a pinch hitter?

Forwards - Loaded up with the usual suspect, this will be the first year I start without Dusty.

Like it overall except for 1 player - Draper … brave man picking him. 5 scores under 50 last year, had some horror SC scoring games, way too inconsistent for me. That leftover cash for mine should be used to upgrade to say Marshall, Grundy etc

Hey TT, I can potentially see 13 upgrades you'll need there before you're at full premo, doesn't leave a lot of wriggle room for injuries etc.
If you count your keepers at the moment, you're probably at 9. I'm hoping to start with 12 keepers, that's how I have it at the moment anyway.

Defenders
  • McGovern - you might think a very poo selection, but if you look at his scores from Rnd 19 - 23 (47, 90, 72, 94, 65) the Rnd 19 game was his first back from injury.
  • Marchbank - should be an automatic selection for Carlton
Midfield
  • Mitchell - it is a FOMO selection as he will be very popular
  • Davies-Uniacke - will improve this year
  • Hopper - will be the mainstay of the Richmond midfield with Prestia and Taranto
Ruck
  • Samson Ryan - Provides the loop for Cameron and I expect to get games later in the season as a forward for Richmond and will not have to worry about Delilah and he should never have been played in Round 15 at the MCG (Raining/Mud) in 2021.
Forwards
  • Taranto - will be the mainstay of the Richmond midfield with Prestia and Hopper
  • Cameron - will be Collingwood go to man in the ruck and provides the loop

Marchbank injury risk and luck to average 60. McGovern, wouldn’t Williams present more upside.?

You need at least one more keeper in the Mids. LDU at 3 is very risky.

Good Luck.

A quiet day at home today so I've been tinkering away with my side for 2023. This is where I'm at -

Backs - Lloyd, M Duncan, Salem, Yeo, L Jones and McKenna (Ginbey/Chesser)
Mids - Oliver, Neale, Bont, MaCrae, Hopper, Ashcroft, MacKenzie and Phillipou (Humphrey/Phillips/Hewett)
Rucks- English and Cameron (Madden - R/F)
Forwards - Dunkley, Rozee, Fyfe, T Thomas, Allen and McLean (B King/VanRooyen)

Explain selections -

Backs - Lloyd and Duncan are proven performers that provide consistency which I'm unsure likes of Daicos can for same price. Salem priced $500k in 2022 so underpriced as is Yeo if he can stay on the park.
Mids - Oliver and Neale will be "C" and "VC" each week and Bont/MacCare should benefit from Dunkley leaving. I don't want to not take MaCcare for him to come out and light it up as he has done for past 5 seasons.
Rucks - Think English top 3 ruck come seasons end and I'll swing Cameron forward once I can identify the next best option in the ruck through the season.
Forward - Dunkley is a must. Rozee was fantastic after being moved to midfield during last season and surely Port need to put him in there to get some youth into their midfield. Fyfe is the same as MaCrae, I don't want to not have him and he lights it up early. With his injury record I'd say he should be good for a stepping stone to a gun. T Thomas I believe is going to be used off half back which should be good for him as he is good with ball in hand. Allen plays each week for Eagles and you'd think McLean is best 22 for Doggies.

I have taken only 2 $123,900 rookies (not including R/F) as I think both may play early but more importantly by taking higher price rookies allows more flexibility if cheaper ones are named but the dearer ones are more likely to play therefore I shouldn't need to change my set up that much.

I think most of my players selected (non-rookies) will be in their round 1 teams but unsure on rookies of course. The only dear rookie I don't have that I think may play early is Sheezel but it'll be a wait and see on him I think as a small/medium forward in a poor team.

I count 10 keepers in current set up with Lloyd/Duncan as 5th/6th defender come season end (both could average 95+) but there are a few others in my side that could turn into keepers if they stay fit/play to their potential in Salem, Yeo, Hopper, Fyfe, Thomas and McLean. Fingers crossed>

Good luck to everyone. Wish everyone a merry Christmas with a safe New Year.

After much tinkering, here is my (3-4-2-4) setup.
1671918221019.png
Backs - Dawson, Daicos, McGrath
Midfield - Oliver, Miller, Steele, Mitchell
Rucks - O'Brien, Marshall
Forwards - Dunkley, Coniglio, Taranto, Cameron

Excerpt - Training Report (PuntRoadEnd)
Must have been a timed run not lap completion, when clock stopped The Beast, (Tarranto), had just completed 9.5 laps of PRO and had just lapped Tom Brown, (who came a fair way last), for a 2nd time and Dusty and DRioli for the 1st time, (he lapped 2/3 of the the field).

Hard to read a lot into some results like that, as it might only be certain players putting in full efforts. Weddle, who easily won the Hawks main TT at the start of pre-season was lapped or almost lapped in a later one from training reports.

Speaking of Hawks training reports, one name I hear a lot of good stuff about is Connor MacDonald. Not sure what he is priced at this year, but I wouldn't be surprised if he has a much better year. Lots of options for the Hawks midfield though, I honestly have no idea what will be the entire core midfield yet this season, there's probably up to around 8-10 you could reasonably name for a few spots in there.

I did think it was a bit odd Tom Browne was joining in on a Tigers training run (and that he had only been lapped twice) until I realised there was actually a Tom Brown on the Tigers list. :p Must be a lack of sleep.

Will this mean less reliance placed on accumulating a large amount of the ball from a Supercoach perspective and will Collingwood’s game style allow Mitchell to return to a 110+ avg?
Mitchell ranked 10th amongst mids for disposals per 100mins, even with different roles at Hawthorn - per FF.

Think if he can go from 50pct to 80-83pct CBA he is going to be that value midfielder keeper we always look for.

There is on negative, he is going to Collingwood, his favourite team to play against. He ave 36.1 disposals vs Pies, highest average of any player against single team in history.

An increase in CBA doesn’t automatically translate to increased SC performance (more of a generic statement/reminder not entirely applicable to the Mitchell situation) and Collingwood played a more direct game style under McRae (ranked 14th in disposals). Mitchell could average the same or lower disposals with a slight decrease in his kick to handball ratio in 2023 given he is not a long or penetrating kick. 2017, 2018 and 2021 at usual game length resulted in Mitchell averaging 34+ disposals a game. I would be looking more towards his tackling potentially being a key reason for significant improvement in his SC avg if he can up that to the 6+ range.

Depends what expectations most have for Mitchell but I would be tempering expectations if coaches expect him to return to the heights of 2017-2021 or a 110+ avg and instead leaning towards a range of a low to mid 100 avg and whether he still represents value comparative to alternative options.
