In the search bar located in the top right hand corner, type “Madness” and tick the box “Search titles only”. The fourth result should be what you seek “Mid-Price Madness: It’s a fine line between pleasure and pain” created by @KLo30 in 2016.

Thanks, couldn't for the life of me remember what it was called.

If you want a reasonably close real life example, go to TS and take a look at Jade Greshams scores from 2022. Started $299k a little below Fyfe but his scores could be similar to what you might get from Fyfe. Took 10 rounds to make 150k. I have Fyfe ATM but do not expect him to go 15 rounds straight. Maybe 10 games in the first 13-14 games.
Patiently waiting for the TS calculator to open for 2023 😁
10 rounds at ~100 for 150k cash would be good enough from Fyfe in my eyes. Can he do it is the question. Pretty unlikely he'll be a keeper.

The reason I suggested looking at Gresham's 2022 score is because it shows the ups and downs Fyfe is likely to produce. Don't expect him to produce 100 every week or play every week. And no, he is unlikely to be a keeper. Has the potential yes, but most likely a trade up to a high end Fwd. Possibly after the Rd 6 position changes.

Does anyone have any thoughts on Sam Taylor? I'm not sure on his role. He always looks like a gun when i watch him play.

Here’s my preliminary views as we head into preseason… the players I am looking at + notables.

Defence
Dawson: Looks like the most obvious selection for mine in defence. Class act. Can play across the park and still score well. More mid time looks inevitable. Hard to fault
Daicos: Nicely priced. Collingwood always looking to shift it into his hands. Another year in system, difficult to envisage him not going 100+
Sicily: Weapon, but possibly too much role risk priced at 113? Will be avoiding
Stewart: Similar to Sicily. Duncan risk + brain explosions? $600k feels like a good price. In the mix for me but out at this stage.
Brayshaw: Back end of ’22 was great, but hard to see him getting as much run through mids this year. Pass
Aaron Hall: Will tempt a few but I won’t be sucked in.
Luke Ryan: Good value at $531k, but seems to go missing a bit too much for me. Emergence of Young doesn’t help
Cumming/Redman: Tempting at this level. Prefer Redman of the two.
Yeo: All depends on the body. He’s not in for me now, but if he’s running well then probably a must.
Bowes: Good price. Role watch. In for now.

No one else really jumps out at me. Salem interesting at 390k but ugly price. Will Day probably due a breakout but not worth the risk. I like Ben Miller too but not selectable at his price. Hunter Clark on preseason watch.

Mids
So many good selections. It’s pretty hard to go wrong. Really just a matter of taste / bye balance.
Oliver, Touk and Steele are the three that I have just about locked. Will likely build around them.
Trac: Is this his 125+ year? He was so frustrating last season. You just know one year he’s going to be the highest averaging player. In for now.
No problem with anyone selecting Neale, Mills, Bont, Macrae – but they’re out for me at the moment. Feels weird not starting with Macrae. See how we go.
Parish: Looks very, very cheap to me at 610k. Probably a toss up with Trac for me. Would love to start him. Think there’s a big gap between this top group of 10 or so, then the rest.
LDU: Big Trac vibes of 2020. He’s got a tank now. If North are a bit better, he looks good for 110+
Green/Warner: Think these type of decisions are the hardest in Supercoach. If someone is priced at 90, and goes at 105, is that a good selection.....? Or a M8 list clogger. Of the two I like Green. He’s out for me now, but if the structure falls in the right way I’d love to have him.
Ditto for Newcombe. There’s a tiny bit more leverage in picking a guy at 87 ave, but these picks are so risky. In for me right now. But if it feels like I’m taking too many mid pricers then he’ll drop out.
Titch: 528k. Very tough call. On the face of it he looks like a really obvious selection. But if he couldn’t keep up with the Hawks style of play last year, then how does he keep up with Collingwood’s even faster style? Unless he’s just used as a pure shovel man. Really tough call
Simpkin/Serong: See above with Green/Warner. They’ll improve, but probably not enough for 110+ so probably not good picks.
Sam Berry: Sneaky POD potential.
Hopper: Looks like a no-brainer

Rucks
Leaning towards English/Marshall early. Marshall looks like a lock to me. English with more Kgs…. If he plays 20 games then he’s a win. The scoring will be there.
Darcy probably unselectable with Jackson in now.
Witts is fully priced, no thanks.
Gawn/Grundy, who knows. If Grundy’s presence means Gawn plays a chunk of time down back, he’ll probably score even better. If he plays more forward, that’s probably back into 105 range. I think they’re both priced fairly. Does Brodie play occasionally more of the mid / link-up role he played at Collingwood? No idea where I’ll land here.
Meek interesting but price no good.

Forwards
Dunkley: Don’t overthink it. First picked player in ’23.
Coniglio: A maybe. Probably some price upside with Hopper/Taranto gone.
Heeney: Not for me at this price.
Butters: Wouldn’t fault anyone for taking him, but until his frame fills out I still think his crash style means he’ll miss games.
Rozee: Prefer him to Butters. He was so good in 2H last year.
Dylan Moore: Don’t hate it. Role crucial.
Taranto: Looks like an easy pick to me. He’s incredibly frustrating to own because his disposal is so horrific. But if he’s a perma-mid and doing grunt work (which he’s fine at) then it’s hard to see him under 100 ave.
Gulden: Interested
Darcy Cameron: Looks like a very safe pick to me. Should go 95+ and gives Ruck cover. Done.
Nic Martin: Interested, but probably a year too soon.
Toby: Don’t hate it as a speccy pick
Cunnington: Not for me.
Fyfe: Very tough. I think I’ll probably not start him, and if he starts on fire then immediately shift him in.
I like the Berry pick. Seemed a definite role change 2nd half of last year. Is he dpp again?

Overall philosophy of the team, not to run out of trades again. Looking at last year's team it was chock full of questionable trade-ins to save a buck here and there that left it struggling to be competitive in league finals. In saying that, one might argue that the lack to top line premos to start with is basically the same thing just at an earlier stage of the year. The benefit of this team is that if the rookies don't show up then that can be catered for with only a handful on field.

Backs: Going with the one top liner here and 2x players with scope to push Top 15. I'm not enamoured with players in the current 5-20 range so I feel I may as well grab players I think will make small improvements in Cumming & Daicos and fill out my D5/D6 at season's end. Bowes currently sits as my mispriced speculative pick and will obviously be a watch. Rookies are rookies.

Mids: Another compromised line here many would feel with Touk & Steele being the only top liners (and captain choices) and Anderson, Green & Titchell rounding out the rest of the starting keepers. The same knock on this line is that Touk & Steele should finish Top 10 mids, but will Anderson, Green or Titch? Likely not, but here's hoping. A jump in scoring from Anderson & Green to 105 might sneak them inside the Top 20 mids. I like Anderson & Green as they're both coming into their prime for their respective sides as premier mids although in different playing styles. Green I had last season and may as well stick fat again & hope he turns into the bull owners are hoping for. Anderson averaged 110 after his bye last season to round out the year. He wins plenty of footy, but needs to clean up his kicking as he bombs it long a bit too often. King back may help in that regard. Titch looks best placed to go 105-100 and push Top 15 value although who knows how he'll fit in the Pies' system? Lastly, the benefit of Touk & Anderson is they have the nice Suns/Cats bye. These three being M6/M7/M8 at season's end looks a little weak to compete against the better teams.

Rucks: English had the potential to explode last year although was curtailed with injury. Is this his year? He needs to put a full season together. I'm not fully sold on him and could easily swap him out before the season. Grundy looks great value even though he's job sharing.

Forwards: Pretty straightforward decisions made here so far. Dunks picks himself. Taranto too. Cameron for ruck cover if/when English goes down. All three should be Top 10 forwards at the end of the year. Oscar Allen should be a slow burn, as should Toby McLean & Bruce if they play. No rookies on field again here too although will adjust as necessary obviously.

Starting the year with a compromised defense and midfield may not be the best strategy, but I'm hoping to have a few trades in hand at the end of the year to upgrade the subpar premos. There's clearly no hyped up, yet injury risky, midpricers like Yeo and Fyfe and I'll probably miss the boat on one or both of these players which will leave me behind the 8-ball to a degree. I'll appreciate not having to have an exit strategy for a Yeo or Fyfe injury early doors.

This will all no doubt go out the window come the start of the season.

Def - 2 Premiums with upgrades in Yeo and Bowes
Mid - 4 Premiums and Green with upgrade in Hopper
Ruck - 1 Premium and Darcy who will transition into the forwards
This allows me flexibility to grab the best 2nd ruck without being stuck with an underperformer.
  • How often will Grundy or Gawn going to be managed during a game?
  • With King missing will Lyon use Marshall as a permanent forward for the first 5-6 games?
Fwd - 2 Premium and Fyfe, I have Bruce but that could be replaced by Ratugolea
Rookies - are players that have been in the system for a while or mature age

I have also factored in the byes, hence omitting Butters and Rozee (Rnd 15)

Not bad, I would try to squeeze 1 more premo in def or forward by maybe downgrading Bows, Allen, Bruce??

In respect of J Bruce would not the Bulldogs key fwds be Naughton, Lobb, JUH and Bruce in fourth spot? I would have thought they would want to develop JUH asap so he gets the gig ahead of Bruce. And in that case would Bruce be getting a game, as in, they would not play all of them together. Lobb also gives the ruck chop out to English so no need for Bruce there either. Maybe Bruce will return to being defender. Back to a pre season watch on how they set up.
