  • There are four rounds (12, 13, 14 & 15) in 2023 where multiple teams will have a bye and not play in that particular round.
  • In these rounds, you'll score from your best 18 players only in any position, from your selected, on-field Starting 22. You'll still need to ensure that your best available players are in your starting 22 line-up.
Took me awhile to work out where to find everything. I was curious on the Geelong/Gold Coast bye.
Just on this, it really adds to the appeal of Miller/Stewart/Bowes with just those 2 clubs on the bye round 13 - when checking my bye situation, having those 3 guys in the team makes it far easy for the other 3 bye rounds - much easier for your bye balance.

Witts is another big one. Not much to target once they come off their bye though. Options are probably Anderson, Guthrie, Danger, Hawkins, J.Cameron and Blicavs. I wouldn't be in a hurry to get any of those in.

Then I currently have 7 speculators in my draft team o_O
That could be a good thing , won't know until the season starts and see what they score.

Personally think I need to change the way I approach my starting team , same thing season after season doesn't seem to work , the game has changed with more trades , introduction of boosts , additions of DPP's etc etc.

Need to adapt and change with the times.

If it doesn't work , sobeit go back to the more "traditional" way next year.

More mid price players is that what your thinking is the way to go?
Im thinking 9-10 uber premos and 6 mid price players (250-360k) doesn’t seem that crazy.

Once the BBL ends , I will get my AFL SC thinking hat bat on , will need to look back at the figures but their seems to be a lot of those players in that price range that have worked in the last few seasons and have made that "magical" $ 150k.

Obviously still have to pick the right ones.

The thinking would be hopefully more points on board up until the Bye's then sideways them.

Quick look at the $ 150k-Ashcroft price range their seems to be a multitude of players that could be Best 22 and have more reliable JS than the rookies.

I'm seeing a lot of sides with Hopper and/or Taranto. I know Hopper is cheap and is guaranteed midfield minutes, ditto Taranto with his FWD status.

The Tigers have never been a high scoring side from a SC perspective, seems a risky move to me.
Richmond game plan will be significantly different from the 2017 - 2020 eras, Hopper and Taranto were brought in to improve the contested ball use and ease pressure on the defence.

I expect significant improvement in the scoring of Hopper and Taranto.

Very early ofc but have currently picked out my 3-4 pods (<5% ownership) that I will be looking at starting in 2023

2021 - cumming + Brayshaw + hunter Clark
(final rank 42nd)
2022 - Sinclair + Blakey + brayshaw + hall
(120th after round 2, then fell from grace late)
2023 - ROB + hunter clark + parish + nank

Has been my main strategy for the last few years, which has done well for me recently (discarding last years 2k drop in last 2 rounds thanks to keays)

Really like the chance of a pod in the rucks, with all the confusion I think locking in ROB should be a safe 100+ and takes a bit of the pressure off,
hunter Clark obviously speculative atm, but really like him around the ball and half back, parish destined to be a top 8 mid, injuries only concern, nank just a stab in the dark atm tbh haha

At the end of every season they post a side that would have won overall without making any trades (I actually haven't see one for last year?).

Those teams will generally have 2 uber premos simply for the captain scores, maybe 2 or 3 of the best rookie scorers, with the rest being mid-price or speculative picks. It is impossible to get anywhere near nailing a side like that, but the numbers don't lie. The more of those picks you can get right, the better you will go.

It is the Sicily, Hewett, Cripps type picks that matter more than which top-end premos you select. Too many people become fixated on dollars spent equals more points.

I thinking the same with all these trades, Guns & Rookies becomming outdated.

Worpel made his way into the line up last night at M7. Soulder injury last year, set him back. Could go 90+ for 308K He coulde make you 200K by the first bye round.

Oliver Macrae Steele Green Titch Hopper Worpel.

Sicily and Cripps, fallen premo types are usually pretty easy to pick. Likewise Hewett and Brodie types who move to a new club to play midfield.
Bit harder to pick the break out players though.

It is personal choice which ones you like, but it is very likely that the last 4 of those will determine how you go, rather that the first 3. Barring some unforeseen disaster (Steele struggling a bit currently according to training observations?) the first 3 will be good solid picks. They won't differentiate you much from teams that pick Miller, Neale and Bont though - they will all score in the vicinity of what they are priced to average.

Its an interesting discussion regarding team make up. I agree that the guns and rookies route has seen its day, also holding trades is not the right move either.
If you go for a team of Worpel, Bowes, Hopper etc and they all start averaging 100 would you really trade them? You really do need to get the rookies right for the cash generation.
I had 20 trades by the byes last year but I was so far behind that I could not catch up. I am thinking of blowing 6 to 9 trades by round 4 this year and see what happens.

I know that they have given us 1 extra trade this year but don't forget we have to play 1 extra round this year.
In my case, mt Private Cash League has increased from 18 to 20 teams this means 2 extra games this season.
That means 2 extra games that can eat into my trades through injury or whatever that could affect number of trades remaining if I make finals.
It could be argued that we now have less trades this year rather than 1 extra.
