At the end of every season they post a side that would have won overall without making any trades (I actually haven't see one for last year?).

Those teams will generally have 2 uber premos simply for the captain scores, maybe 2 or 3 of the best rookie scorers, with the rest being mid-price or speculative picks. It is impossible to get anywhere near nailing a side like that, but the numbers don't lie. The more of those picks you can get right, the better you will go.

It is the Sicily, Hewett, Cripps type picks that matter more than which top-end premos you select. Too many people become fixated on dollars spent equals more points.
Plenty of possibilities out there :-

Salem , Yeo , Haynes , Bailey Williams (WB) , Clark , Bowes

Holmes , Hopper , Sheed , Fyfe * , Worpel , Thomas * , Flanders * etc

etc etc

$150k-> Allen looks to have even more options , who may (or may not) have better JS and scoring capabilities than all these new rookies who have yet to play at this level.

Just a matter if they score enough (say 75-90 ppg) over say 8-10 rounds to make that $ 150k , maybe the $150k-> Allen bracket 65 - 75 PPG is a more realistic expectation (will need to check if they have achieved this in the past)

Then all comes down to picking those "perfect" 10-12 starting rookies that can make that "magical" $ 150k as well early doors , get dropped after 3-4 games and everything stalls.

50 days to come so plenty of discussion ahead

My team is so very undecided. Rucks no idea. Darcy Cameron no idea. Tom Mitchell not know. Fyfe undecided. There's pros and cons to almost every player. I really think im going to pick players with some sort of rationale for their selection. Also i can't find where to log out!

No one has ever won SuperCoach playing that strategy.

It doesn’t work because it’s too low-percentage. The chances of nailing all the midpricers are so low, that your probability of winning is basically zero.

You have a much better chance of winning by playing cookie cutter (with some tweaks), and trading well - like every single winner this competition has done.

Ginbey is a great size now... but he's going to be a massive unit after 3-4 AFL Preseasons.

Jai Culley been a standout performer over the pre-season too... has added a noticable amount of size and strength over the off-season trying to lock down a Round 1 Inside midfield spot.

Been a while since I've posted my thoughts on here, but genuinely excited for the season ahead. Hopefully we have seen the back of covid affected seasons, not going to lie it's been a frustrating element of the game to navigate. Some initial observations on 2023:

- Defence is intriguing with an unprecedented number of 110+ players. Stewart and Daicos at circa 40% ownership is ludicrous but can understand the appeal.
- Midfield (along with fwd line) seems to be the easiest line to pick. There's some interesting pods away from the big dogs (Oliver/Laird) who will almost certainly lose value. Biggest query for mine is what number of midpricers to go with. Hopper, Sheed and to a lesser extent Worpel (will give my take on Hawks players as an avid Hawks supporter!) all look pretty safe bets.
- Ruck is more solved than people think, with really only a handful of options being seriously considered (the complete absence of midprice and rookie options contributing to this). Hopefully we see the landscape change a bit as would love to see some genuine midpricers emerge as decent options.
- Fwd line you have Dunkley, Taranto, Cogs and Rozee as the frontrunners. Must admit, Taranto's ownership is frightening, the bloke is a certified butcher and his best SC season came in the year he finished no1 for avgs in DT/Fantasy. Finally gets the role though he's been craving. There's no shortage of midpricers and elevated rookies also so think we will see something similar to last year where we need to make a judgment call on who to start and who to fade.

On the Hawks, mid rotations we have no choice but to wait until preseason to get a feel for what the makeup looks like. I really rate Sam Mitchell as a coach and he seems pretty transparent on his preferred players, so we should get a good idea of who is in favour for the coveted midfield spots. I think our core makeup of 5-6 mid rotations will be Newcombe, 2 inside/contested mids (Worpel/Nash/Stephens/Maginess), 2 inside/outside mids (Amon/Day/Ward/Macdonad/Mackenzie) and a small forward for bursts (Moore/Wingard/Morrison). The exact % midfield splits though are anyone's guess though.

Strange. That doesnt exist. No bucket either. I just started randomly clicking on things. Press player and more, and i get my name top left which lets me log out! Not know!

I might have to have a closer look at the drawer to see the best time to have players.

Meet this year's cookie cutter side:

Good advice, not just to win, which is a wing and a prayer for most of us, but to end with a high ranking. The above is a v good team.

I think there may be some glitches happening with the current version. I can access SC Gold feature on my phone and on Safari browser on my iPad, but on my preferred Chrome browser on iPad I don’t get Gold 🤔🤨. Also the player search function on my Team page is half hidden off to the right of the screen. Hopefully this is something which gets fixed 😬

This is a great observation. While we all want to win or finish in top 100 / 1000, there is nothing more depressing that having a crack and then having to manage a dud team for the whole season, especially when wanting to stay engaged with the community here on SCS (just takes to joy out of the game). I have a mate who always sets up with a speculative team, and while some of the players work out, he always ends the season ranked around 40k. Maybe he’s just poor at trading, but that’s not a path I want to go down 😅

Well said Ricky, it's easy to blow your chances early on by trying to be too different.

In terms of adaptation to the brave new world of infinite trades*, what was the consensus in terms of strategic changes:

Trade early, trade often seemed to prove the better option, sacrificing some $ efficiency and focusing on getting to full premo as quickly as possible, correct?

Midpricers: It depends on the concrete crop, but in general, with more trades, this also results in an environment more forgiving for midpricer-heavy strategies (because the cost of the trade you need to use to exit the midpricers is reduced and the average profit needed to be generated also declines), is that the consensus?

There is presumably a thread on this somewhere, thanks in advance to anyone who can point me in the right direction.

* Figuratively speaking
