Happy belated bday Rowsus

If you havent already blown out your 52 candles if you can make a wish for swanny to start cranking his motorboat id be much appreciative ;)

I was going to do Swan to Swallow and McDonough to Chappy or Zorko but after reading some catch up posts i might stick with the leather magnet and just go (cash) mcdon to taylor

Look at this team if yours what play would you do?

Def: McVeigh, Mitchell, Enright, Langdon, mcD, langford -- georg, laid
Mid: Ablett, Watson, *Swan, Beams, Daisy, Tyson, Polec, Ellis -- Dunstan, Michie
Rucks - all good
Fwd: Danger, Martin, Parker, Mitchell, Higgins, Rohan -- McDon, Impy

$117000

*Leather magnet crisis

Your answers suggest forget Pendles or the two prong Swallow Zork idea and just let them go for now

Any reassurances percentage plays or logic welcomed

Hi Rowsus,

I have Fyfe and S. Mitchell. I don't have Beams, Murphy, Zorko, Swallow. Should I be trading any of these in my team this week to avoid price rises? I don't think I need to do too much with my rookies, except for maybe Laidler.

Thanks bud.

Hi Rowsus,

I have a question with the regression to the mean you were talking about.

I started with Zorko and Swallow so im not looking to bring anyone in who has started on fire but more worried about a couple who have started slowly.

Cunnington being the main one. It was always a risk choosing him over Murphy or Beams but I thought..and still do think he is capable of posting good numbers.

I had him at 21 games @ 105-107. Maybe overrating him a bit but I liked his chances of a good year.

So the question is, if he gets to his bye averaging only 90pts a game, do I keep him and bank on him finishing the year still averaging 105-107 (112-115 after the bye) or do I have to bite the bullet and say I read him wrong?

Thanks, and happy bday for yesterday!

I really messed my team up, with tinkering in the last 10-15 minutes before the first lockout in round 1. One of the mistakes resulted in Dixon being in my team, instead of Rioli. I sort of lived with it, as I had Sandi, but never had Dixon rated top 10. I had him rated around 15 - 20 for Forwards preseason, but only about 100 points out of the top 10. I really should never had had him, and now he faces a potential $60k price drop. That would make him a problem that is hard to fix, and he was never in my original plans, or rated at a Keeper level in my preseason planning. So under those 3 things, I'm actually calling it a correction trade. I broke a rule by putting him in my team, and now I'm bending another rule to near breaking point by taking him out! I probably should go the full fix, and get Rioli, but I wanted Martin at some stage, so I thought I'd get him now instead.
Hi Guys. Love the site and the discussion. I too have Dixon as ruck insurance (dpp with Thurlow)which seems useful given the lack of performing ruck rookies and may save me an unwanted trade if a ruck is injured. He is also a future upgrade. Dixon is my team's lowest BE but I won't be trading him out as the odds of his price not rebounding is low in my opinion. His score has been affected so far by 1st qtr concussion and then torrential rain, so he may even be a good priced pick up in a week or two. So what's the priority problem to fix with the two trades this week? For me it is to maximise the rookie cash cows.

Happy birthday!

Hi Salty,
thanks for the birthday wishes.
For your decisions, you just need to answer some questions. Let's deal with Swan first.
You took him for a reason, most likely to create a POD from Pendles owners, and there is nothing wrong with that, even though for now it has backfired. You obviously had him rated 115+ for the season when you took him, which is more than reasonable. The question is, what do you rate him now? I am betting despite his 2 bad games, you are still rating him 110+, and if you're not, it would be interesting to know why. He has a history of rough scoring patches, and then coming good. In 2011 before the famous mid-season Colorado trip he scored only 358 in the 4 games leading up to that break, and 568 in the 6 games before that break. He still managed a 122 season that year! In 2009 he had 3 scores of 66, 73 and 90 in a 5 game spell, but still managed a 123 season. His first 3 games in 2012 only averaged 100, before going on to a 126 season. If you currently have him rated 110 or higher, I can't see that you have any choice, other than to stick with him. If you have him rated lower than 110, you need a pretty good reason, seeing as he's been 117+ the last 5 seasons.
As to Swallow /Zorko, it's just my opinion that the cream has been squeezed from their cakes, and that applies more to Zorko than Swallow. You need to ask yourself what you think they will average from here, to decide if they are worth having. You are facing a potential selection problem in a few hours. Will all of Mitchell, Enright and Laidler play? If the answer is no, obviously you need to do something. If the answer is, yes one of them is playing, the question becomes, do you move Laidler if he is not selected? Yo me, the answer to that question is more how compare Laidler's potential replacement (Swallow?) with Daisy, as it appears Daisy is the only other "sacrificable" player you have. If you rate Swallow to score high enough from here to hold D6, then he is probably more use to your team than Daisy. Do you go Daisy to Templeton/Aish, Laidler to Swallow? I wouldn't as it's 2 trades, that on paper only increase your score potentially slightly, and your money making a bit more.
McDon to Taylor seems ok, not great, but ok. If you have back cover, then Daisy out, Langdon up, Swallow in is a potential move as well. That doesn't fix Laidler, and it is largely dependant on whether you think Swallow can hold D6 from here.
Good luck. :)

Hey Rowsus. If you get a chance (perhaps after teams are named), could you please cast your eye over my side and see if there's any obvious trades I should be looking at. Cheers!

Thanks champ thoughtful and insightful as always - i sat on info from previous posts and felt good about holding swan, the line about nothing wrong with choosing swan over pendles but backfired raised a chuckle :)

Im confident mitchell enright to get up - i rate taylor to generate quicker than both mcd and rohan is a pocket rocket and better JS but not sure how Rocky returning effects his vest candicy. McD was in richmonds reserves best on weekend might find his way back in with jackson if the talk of lids/ cotch possible late outs

Hej tracygrims,
Nyd dine rejser. :)

Hi Juzzo,
I just looked at your team, and this weeks selections, and I don't think i'd trade at all this week. Even if Mitchell is a late out, I'd hold him, and swap Langdon up into your Mids to cover the gap. I think anything you do to bring those players you mentioned in now, would involve some side Trading, and could lead to regrets later.
Good luck :)

Was thinking of trading out Matt crouch for Matt Thomas, but with crouch being named I am reconsidering.
thoughts?

on one hand Thomas 'should' make quick cash but is it worth the trade or just save the trade and wait for crouch to make me some money? (Assuming that crouch will get games)

my midfield would be:
pendles, ablett, beams, polec, Tyson, x.ellis, d.thomas, m.thomas, (Fyfe, dunstan)

Hi Mike, good to see you posting in the forum!
We both have/had a good opinion of Cunnington coming into this season. The difference in his situation is, we were looking for him to take a step up in his scoring, rather than just repeat a previously established scoring pattern. The question you need to ask yourself is, do you still have faith he can take that step? If the answer is no, then a straight swap to Murphy/Beams is prudent. If you still have faith, then stick fat. Norths draw becomes a lot friendlier after the bye. The other option is to swap him out now, and keep an eye on his form and price, and possibly bring him back if he looks good. I'm sitting on the fence with him for now. I was hoping part of his improvememnt would come with more TOG, but that hasn't happened yet, but it is still early days. The safer option is to swap, and watch. The bigger gamble is to hold. I think in this case the potential risk out weighs the potential reward, so I'd go the safe option.

ps - thanks for the birthday wishes. :)

YES, THANK YOU ROWSUS. I've been searching for a trade or two all week and since the teams came out and I can't justify doing anything. I just felt like I should due to the price rises.

I can now rest for a while,
Thanks heaps.

Hi Cattle,
you are absolutely right, the priority for early trades, is fix any missing cash cows first, then fix structural/selection problems second. Since you posted we have learnt Dixon is out with an adductor injury. One of those annoying injuries that look like one week, but can be one week or three. I will monitor Fridays game. If Sandi appears to get through it ok, I will sacrifice Dixon, under my previous explanation. If Sandi gets injured, then it's catch-22, we can't be sure if Dixon is back next week anyway!

Only one thing, I have Michie? Could trade him for a Lewie Taylor or Templeton etc?
What do you reckon?
I'm not sure I'd go Templeton, you could consider Taylor, and it opens a DPP link, and gives you a little cash. I'm not 100% convinced there's a full trades worth of benefit there, only time will answer that. I'd probably just keep Michie for now.

Hi Bobbie,
I can't see anything that needs fixing there. Keep your trades for another round. Good job.
