Yes after RD 2 those of us with 30,000 plus rannking should consider some unpopular VC options and hope they go Large.. All this talk about winning the SC Competition is a bit like a dog chasing its tail. I know going into the start of the season, i have next to no chance of winning, my goal for this year is to try to get into the top 2000, at years end, and win the H2H match ups. Plus its fun talking footy.....
Exactly. Last year, my Round 1 rank was 78,000. Still ended up winning the SCS03 league and all my cash leagues.

In 2020 I finished 42nd with a peak rank of 16th in round 14. All that despite ranking 50,883rd in round 3.

Ok, if this years winner has done that, I'll run around the MCG naked yelling ,'I'm a spanner'
Bookmarked.

I mean... I agree I don't think the eventual winner would have started Stewart > Doc but c'mon. Gotta hold someone to something like this.

1/74 - Doc.

Think I'll trade in Hollands. He's shown he can run out games easily enough and can, with such an outside role, be expected to last a while without getting too banged up. Means he should get a fair few games in. 160k or whatever isn't too much to sit on the pine these days and a 60 or so makes for a decent enough emergency score for late outs. Outside wingmen usually go for high 300ks if they're half decent but not too damaging. That's what I'll hope for from Hollands.

Another Good Match Up for Friday NIght ....should be enjoyable to watch.

Good Luck Coaches.....

CARN THE PIES
We're Collingwood fans. We know in our minds at the start of the year we have little to no chance of winning the premiership and that even once we get close, we'll get crucified.... crucified Tony! But we still front up and get stuck in with all the misguided belief in our souls. The Supercoach overall prize is built for us mugs. The way of the samurai isn't about the victory but about the way the fight was conducted. Onwards and upwards, I say. Well sidewards maybe. I really haven't liked the look of Doc's games thus far and Macrae's a worry too.

I disagree, with how hard he runs, I think a comfortable 65+ average is what he's looking at. Yes he's 162k, but that extra 40k up from a base rookie you are paying a premium for his JS, It's his spot to lose. Got burnt more times than ever last week and still managed a 50 which isnt horrible. Considering how early we play most weeks, he's perfect for that looping M9 role. Can see him comfortably making 150k+, and he's a rookie you can rely on being a green tick each week
Agreed, given how hard he works, 50 is his floor and he's a good chance of jagging a 90+ as his confidence grows. Running comfortably as my M8 until I get a loophole option.

I was just sticking up for those who were derided for having a whinge about starting Stewart and trading him for Docherty.
The winner this year will 100% not have done that because you need to be close to perfect to finish first in front of 100,000 other teams.
That was not my point at all. My point was replying to NT who told people who started Stewart and traded in Doch to stop complaining.
I said they were entitled to complain because they made sound decisions and lost ground to others.
NT was rubbing salt into a wound that was unnessessary imo. Anyway , I take your points and I'll move on from the subject.
I think this has been taken out of context a little and I do apologise to all that went from Stewart to Docherty and feel hard done by. My first comment was as a Docherty owner myself all TIC in relation to Stewart owners breaking Docherty by trading him in, I obviously needed to add more emojis to portray the TIC aspect. Again, the second comment 'but do they?' in response to you saying they are entitled to a whinge, needed more emojis.
I think it's an over-reaction personally stating a season is over in round 1, I'll need to go back through the 2023 goals thread to see those that stated their goal was to be #1 overall and make personal apologies to those coaches who traded Stewart to Doch. But seriously - if someone said to me you can have a premium go out round one on a sub 10 SC score or later in the season when a price drop will take affect I'd be praying for round 1. It happens to most if not all during a season to some varying degree.

The difference between good coaches and your every day coach is the way they recover from these and trading in Doch and getting a round 2 75ish score doesn't destroy a season.

Again, I am sorry StewDochs. :)

NT: I thought it was SC tradition to have a bit of a go at people who traded into and broke your premiums. It's all good natured enough and there usually isn't any malice in it as we all know it's just superstition. Usually... And it's really hard for me to type this coz the b-----s went and ruined Doc for me... I mean... Ya know... <breathes deeply> It's all kumbaya, man.

If anything, they cancelled out my negative POD with Docherty this week. Theoretically, I should thank them. It's the ones that jumped onto (let's say) Ridley and scored themselves a 140 that I'm spewing about. They're the ones who reeled in the deficit. But thankfully, we have competitors who started worse, jumped on our bus and who then haven't been able to gain any ground on us.

On a more serious note, we have a premium who has failed to fire early. This game was bad but his first was also a bit anaemic considering he's a senior player, playing an important position in a drawn match. There was a 130 in the offing for him against the Tiges and he struggled to 108. So that's 2 weeks that he has properly underperformed. For 600k of our precious starting balance, we need better results so this is costly to us.

Every year, this site notes that the list of back premiums gets overturned from year to year. And every year we take a punt or two on spending up big on last year's back premiums. This year, one of them got injured early - fair enough, you can't predicct that. Another (Dawson) couldn't meet his starting price as a backman in a loss and a third (Doc) is running around like he still thinks it's preseason.

The questions now become, "how long will it take for Doc to pull the finger out and and what stage do we lose patience and cut our losses?" I got Doc in because of his ability to score; the lack of Zac Williams in the rebounding role, and their early draw being conducive to a half back scoring well and he hasn't yet fired a shot.

It’s been a tough start for many of us, myself included.

Those that went Stewart > Doch would be feeling very frustrated I completely understand.

I am frustrated but more annoyed at myself for taking Bruhn despite my reservations… but no point dwelling on it, time to move on & make a plan going fwd. It’s impossible to pick a perfect starting side & things happen that you can’t expect - just have to roll with the punches & be fluid with your trading process.

If you have had a poor start like myself, set yourself some short, medium & long term goals, see the position you are in as a challenge.

My ranking is 45,050 currently, I still believe I will finish in the top 1000 which is always my first goal.

Long way to go, this game can be a real roller coaster. Keep your chin up & keep on trucking, things will turn around - just need to be patient 👍
I agree with this, last year for some strange reason, I had a great start with 2305 round, top 500 I think and remained in the upper echelons for quite a good deal of the season, I was hopeful for having my best result ever and did so in the end.
This year I started with a 1902 and ranked 70.000 odd lol, I don't have the same hope as I did last season but will still try to rank as high as possible, relishing the challenge, it can still be fun clawing your way back from a bad / unlucky start.
Those of us who had Stewart, Jones, Fyfe and Laird last week, and Doch this week, we're all just having our character tested to see how we respond from here. I'm hoping the only way is up from here! :)

Did anyone actually watch the game and notice if Docherty's role has changed at all? Or was everyone too busy arguing in here?

Would love some insight on whether a trade needs to be considered for a 600K premium.
Role's fine. No trade needs to be considered, so there's plenty of time spare for whingeing and arguing

Role was fine.
He was on 50ish at half time. Uncharacteristically fumbled and turned it over a bit in the 2nd half. Non story.

Definitely no need to trade. From what I saw he seemed to be a bit unlucky. Things like going over his head to another option further down the ground, being on for the switch but going the other way instead and a few instances not getting used when running past for the handball receive.
