What are people's thoughts on Wood? One of the few midpricers that have gone on with it in their 3rd game. He has gone up by $55k which could put some off but he's scoring at a mid-high $500k player and may very well be underpriced. He's a big bodied midfielder and Ross the Boss loves those types.

If Setterfield is questionable, Wood is a small step up. If I did this trade, Setters would have been in my team for 1 week lol

Chesser > Young
Gulden > Van Rooyen
Callaghan > Laird

I feel like I'm trading for the sake of it because I've only used 2 so far and have avoided basically all of the injury concerns!! I'm carrying Docherty and Brayshaw, but both are getting plenty of the pill so hoping to end up with a couple of high scoring PODs.

Gulden is the one... He had a ripper pre season, and is averaging high as a forward, but I'm a bit meh about keeping him or trading him so again looking for a POD.

I can afford any midfielder, Laird feels like the one after dumping 40k...

In short - giving up a decent mid pricer for an uber premium.. but open to thoughts! Here is my team, ranked around 7k, scored 2,279 last week.

I don't like the two rookie additions. Plenty of question marks on Young's JS. JVR may be a great downgrade but going a week early risks ending up with a donut. I also don't like taking Gulden off field to replace him with a forward rookie.

Perhaps Chesser to Samson Ryan or JVR (if you are keen) via Davey
Then Callaghan to Hopper or someone else you can afford (not sure the budget).

Playing pure wing, 0 CBA's.

I think it's unsustainable, unless he's the AA wingman for 2023 (hey, it's possible) but even then I don't think would do enough as a selection.

Hey Narkee, how are you!!!

Wood has been a real surprise packet, certainly worthy of consideration but he did take a heavy knock to his shoulder later on the game last week, had a big ice pack on it/ was favouring it so I assume he has had a light week on the track. Just a little wary of trading in guys after coping a hit the previous week. We saw with Callaghan for example last week that he was clearly avoiding physical contact as much as possible after getting a heavy hit from Hurn in round 2, he was clearly trying to protect that shoulder.

OK..

What about replace Van Rooyen with Will Phillips and replace Laird with Bont?

Buggah it. Out: Callaghan, Rowell. In: Oliver, Rowston (vs. Phillips). Yeah Piggy is $exxy but I'll sleep better at night knowing that I don't have LDU to stress over (was also considering Cripps, but I can't bring myself to want positive outcomes for anything navy blue :p)

Maybe Eagling was in a bit of a bad mood for some reason or thought you were taking the pish suggesting trading Bont out but we can all track posts back to the source here so, I'll suggest it was just a moment of alcohol fueled anger? / over-reaction. Anyways, I like this place because it has minimal drama, and plenty of good people making sure that stuff doesn't happen.
It must be a bit confronting for you Macca genuinely trying to help someone and being berated for it, I would expect that at Jock Reynolds these days due to lack of administration, hence I'm not there much anymore.
All good @russty appreciate the support, always try to offer solid suggestions and most times people appreciate it.

one of the great things about the forum and why so many of our teams are probably very similar….people always give us food for thought in relation to trades

Great post. Fundamentally I agree with @aj74 that there's no point chasing a 700k player as they will inevitably fall in price because even a 120 is a below-par score in value terms. But we shouldn't underestimate the extent to which Oliver's career has been freakish so far.
Oliver has added goals to his game this year and if that continues he goes to another level. Fantastic player shame about the hair

I dont have a major preference about what premium to bring in. I can just afford neale and miller if I go for rowston. Stewart, Sicily and Saad are other options. Im quite keen on saad! He would have made my side if phillips had been named. Not know.

Just throwing my 2 cents in here, but isn't the point of some of the threads on this site to get a wide ranging set of opinions? Yeah some may not like all the options, but the great thing is they don't have to actually do them - but for others, that outside the box thinking can be great.

Wasn't there a famous move by Dimmawitts (I think and apologies about the name spelling as I think that's wrong) where he traded out Cloke who was dominating at a time everyone was breaking their team to get him in? If we only went with the popular safe opinions, that stuf wouldn't happen.

And for the record, at the time I still wouldn't have had the balls to pull that trigger, but doesn't mean it shouldn't be shared and discussed!
Point is don't discourage others from posting ideas, everyone thinks differently. If we all thought the same we'd have the exact same team and points

My post did reference it being a matter of how much he punishes non-owners before dropping that game, which actually happened 4 times last year.

It is incredibly difficult to have a 130ppg average. I'll go out on a limb and say that nobody has ever made 135ppg for the year which would suggest that he has the weigh of history against him keeping up his current average.

Remember how Laird has amazing consistency and never puts in a stinker? (sorry to bring it up again) Well Clarry has the more volatile scoring. He will put in some poor scores and at his current price, "poor" is probably anything under 115 as that is 20 points below what you paid for. He did that 6 times last year and 8 times the year before. These will drag down his price.

Obviously, he beat that average by a fair bit a number of times too. So that's the gamble. Will he drop points and cash before he goes on his next tear? (Round 4 last year, round 3 in 2021).

No doubt he's a keeper. He's gotten better every year he's played to date and he's just entering prime age for a midfielder. There is every chance that he goes even better this year than last, breaking records as he goes. But we are getting into uncharted waters now as far as him and supercoach scoring goes. And yes, records are made to be broken but I don't like the idea of dropping 700k on that happening when there's plenty of other places for me to spend my cash that don't require a record breaking run to pay out.

Last year he failed to make 100 4 times and he missed a game as well. I understand that injury played a part in that but that's footy. Everybody has an injury risk. So that's 5 times you were getting significant unders for your spend. Same in 2021. I didn't bother checking 2020 because hub life made everything weird and before that was too long ago. He's not infallible. Even Ablett Junior dropped some stinkers
Will be interested to see how this goes…pro’s for and against most definately.

Think he is a must if you are to win the overall thing….but that’s just my own opinion.
Glad I have him, makes captaincy choices so much easier and tbh hasn’t really impacted my ability to have all the key premiums in my team.. happy to miss mid prices such as setterfield who are quick cash grabs but in the end will need to be traded out anyway

Does anyone see merit in a Laird > Josh Kelly sideways trade IF the 80K it frees up allows me to turn Sean Darcy into English & Callaghan into Hopper?
Wouldn’t suggest so….particularly with Kelly and his durability concerns….
Would keep Darcy and still upgrade Callaghan to hopper.
