The idea is that Team A would still get the viable rookie though - they just get them as a downgrade for a maxed out McKenna instead of a sideways for Roberts.

We generally find that most teams are almost completed by the time the byes start, so it can be hard to catch the leaders at that point even with a great bye run if you have been leaking points Round 6 - Round 11.

I've even found myself not trading in the first bye week in recent years (to avoid bringing someone in that has the bye ahead of them) - that seems like the perfect week to clean up the deadwood in my eyes.

You don't get coin gen from McKenna either if he keeps scoring 50-60, so you may as well prioritise the move that releases cash to help the rest of your team.
You have no coin gen from a peaked rookie either...
Sure, you don't get coin if he scores 50-60, but you could if he spikes up with a 100 score. So the potential is there. Roberts isn't useful other than for a bench loop.

Playing rookies are so important this season and trading them early and leaving no coin gen on your bench will mean flame outs imo. Sideways prems to more expensive ones doesn't get your team closer to finished.

I find it really interesting that people are jumping on Day so early. Yes, he looks good but you have him for the rest of the season. Players go on scoring runs and then stop, so it feels like a recognition that we can't get all the best players on all the lines. Finishing a team by the byes is going to be tough methinks.

I'm trusting in Matt Johnson, Mitchell, Sturt, Cincotta & Angwin/Teakle to get the coin gen I need once I move on McKenna, Phillips, Philipou, Wilmot, Baker, Greene, Ashcroft, JVR, Setterfield, Worpel & Hopper.

Hopefully they will all be 250K+ at that point.

The way things are going there's no way I'd have Day for the rest of the season. I'll have Day for one week, he'll get a six week injury, I'll trade him out, and then he'll back back the following week.

I'm fading Day for this reason. Most seasons you can pick up a fallen premo for your 6th defender around the byes for the same price as Day is now, but without the risk of having to carry him all season.

I'm worried about the risk that he actually is a Top 6 defender that everyone has picked up for only 454K at Round 7...

The thing with Day, if he was playing his usual role down back and scoring the same I'd be more concerned, the fact is he's had a role change, he's playing it well, he's getting the CBA's and midfield minutes so the improvement in scoring isn't due a spike game, it's from a role change which is a key indicator for player improvement.

The negatives for me is his injury history in a demanding role and the fact the Hawks are a young team and will probably not win a big number of games, especially late in the season when the younger guys tire.

He's well priced and a defender so certainly a long way from a bad pick.

I like Day too but the other risk is he loses CBAs for a number of week. Mitchell has said he has lots of inside midfielder to pick from and has swapped role all season so far.

I'm seconding this and putting my money where my mouth is.

Roberts is a bit of a nothing trade, unless there's a must have rookie to bring in - which I really don't think there is this week. Even Mitchell is more above average than must have.
I’m in this camp too. Roberts is a problem after upgrade season or a must have turns up and haven’t got anybody else to use. Just before bye is a good time as can pick the ones getting games at that time.

Yeah, you watch him go back to his old role now
If he does would only be a week or so.

The attraction of Day is the value if he can keep going okay. A Day over a Sicily/Sinclair type saves enough cash to turn a Pou type into a premium next week. For my side that is a Pou to Oliver unlikely but definitely a Cripps.

Is Day another Gulden? Seemed to have potential and then fell flat in a poorly performing team. Gulden could be losing a bit of money this week. Gulden and Day seem to me like carbon copies of each other, they even look the same, barring a few cms. But, maybe a few extra cms Will help make everyones Day.

I reckon Day is not a bad one to bet against if you can afford to upgrade to someone with fewer risks, but for those of us with Miller to deal with and no great cash reserves, he is a way to still squeeze an 'upgrade' in while sidewaysing Miller, which is probably worth a fair bit given the way the lower-echelon on field rookies have been smashing most of us the last few weeks. If he ends up a 90ish player it's pretty easy to deal with later once the rest of the team is sorted out (of course there's worse downside risk below that). But he also has the potential upside of being a proper breakout, so I think he's a sound enough option for teams in need.

That's why I'm looking at him, with very little cash in the bank and limited cash generating rookies, I can grab him with 1 up/1 down this week. Using another trade with also use all the cash to bring in a better premium, leaving me needing to do 3 trades next week to get an upgrade.

Potential top 8 defender from this point on for only $450k? Seems a pretty good option. Last two games have been very good before the suspension, was tracking for a 130 against Geelong as well until second half collapse from his whole team, wont be playing the reigning premiers every week. CBAs are on the up every week, has scored tons from ~60% CBAs.
