JL on AFL360 just said Brayshaw‘s knee injury is more a distraction than a hindrance.
Which goes against the apparent evidence of the first 7 weeks. One good game against the bottom side isn't entirely convincing.
Explains why his numbers are down, he goes to pick up the ball but his knee distracts him, "hey there Andy!"
Don't trust Longmire. Remember when Fyfe had a platter fascia and then would be back next week then completely reversed . He got pulled up for misinformation and said he should have said it. If coaches were regulated, ASIC would ne bat his doorstep already.

He doesn't want to make excuses for players, clearly doesn't feel he can trust them, rather than be a straight shooter.

Not looking good for JVR so far. Could get his charge downgraded but would still miss 1 week.
Really not looking good for JVR with the questions he's being asked.
The question is it in the course of going for the ball as we have seen players get off. What is against him is whilst looking to go for the spoil, he doesn't look like get anywhere near the ball, bit late and too far.

Would surprise is careless, low impact, medium to high contact. Good result 1 week, could get off but opens the way to hurting a player by making something look like a legitimate act. He was legit, not questioning it, just aggressive.

Getting ridiculous - at least we won't need to hear anymore on SEN from people ringing about booing, I expect tomorrow there will be a lot of JVR calls - AFL is becoming very frustrating
I hadn't actually seen the incident until a few minutes ago, I figured I should probably form an opinion on it now the ban's been upheld. It's very strange to see the ruling essentially praise the player for his conduct and then ban him anyway.

I think what would be useful going forward is if tribunal rulings had some kind of guidance as to what the player could have done to avoid suspension. Having watched it I'm struggling to see what other options he had aside from maybe spoiling with his left hand (so his body doesn't cut across Ballard's path) but even that might have taken enough time away to prevent him from getting there in time. But something official saying that would at least make clear the AFL's intention in making that call.

Geelong’s appeal has failed. Brad Close will miss Round 9’s match against Richmond.

Tribunal reasons:
We regard the tackle as dangerous for two main reasons.

One: At and prior to the moment of impact, he pinned or restrained both of Dawson's arms and particularly had hold of Dawson's left arm and did not release it. As a result, Dawson had no opportunity to protect himself from impact.

Two: Close contributed meaningfully to Dawson being brought to ground. We do not accept that it was solely or overwhelmingly Dawson's momentum that caused him to be brought to ground. Through a combination of Close pulling on Dawson's left arm and pushing on his right arm, he contributed substantially to Dawson's head making contact with the ground.

We accept players tackle by grabbing an arm. But, if the tackler realises or should realise the tackled player is coming to ground with momentum and does not release the tackled players arm that he might have used to protect himself, he will likely have breached his duty of care to that player.

Not only did Close not release Dawson's arm, he held tight and pulled his wrist back as Dawson attempted to free his arm to brace.

As to impact, the force of Dawson's head hitting the ground was apparent. His head bounced on the turf, his momentary pain was visible, there was the potential for facial or concussion injury. We find the impact was medium.
Still think this is rubbish Close got suspended. Watching that live and even after a couple of replays, Dawson is responsible for how the tackle played out. Close is almost along for the ride and did well to hold onto him.

It’s like they expected Close to just drop off the tackle.
