Wouldn’t be a Monday without looking into some left field trade in options.

Prestia - if the Hopper injury is for multiple weeks could we look at Prestia to keep flying the flag. Had a solid year last year without Hopper and Taranto eating into the inside minutes so may get back to that.

Wines - looks as though he is slowly turning it around score wise and the history is there.

Usually the way the week goes is I look into these options on a Monday and then sensibly shut myself down by Wednesday but thought I’d test the waters here.

Early trades are:

Chayce Jones, McKenna and Chandler
into
Walsh, D Cameron and Drury and 3k left over

My concerns with each are 1. Could chase some more value instead of Walsh but I have a few mid-500s players already in there, rather go with someone who's more consistent 2. If Gawn gets DPP, he probably outscores Cameron and is maybe less injury-prone? 3. No further explanation is needed
What are the likelihoods of Gawn, Walsh and Macrae actually getting DPP?

If I get Cameron this week that will essentially complete my forward line, but if those aforementioned guys are going to get DPP then that may change things. Macrae is apparently very close to the threshold, but if he's going to be relegated to wing/HFF role then I'm not even sure he's worth it. Gawn and Walsh would be great DPP options but no idea how likely they are.

With question mark over Laird and Cripps available cheap in a few weeks, happy to go the discount path on Merrett. He's usually a good look after a downturn most years....

Just the 3 rookies on field now, so while I'm close to a full squad, the idea of being without Gulden and others (English, Stewart, etc) for too long scares me.....
Whilst Gulden might be out of reach for some at $559k….
alternative option I think is Warner at $498k…

good bye and can more than match Gulden with Mills out…

I already own Neale, Steele, Ashcroft, Wilmot and Johnson, all with the R12 bye in midfield. So doesn't make much sense for me personally to add another with Sharp. Ashcroft and Wilmot will probably be traded before their bye but still.

When I say "less useful" I just mean that typically, bringing in rookies who have the first bye at this time of the season isn't usually the best move because it's harder to trade them out during the bye rounds, It's best to have rookies who have their bye later on so you have more options to trade them to. With Sharp, come R13 (if he even lasts that long) he'll have already missed 1 price rise and you can't really trade him to anybody except other R12 bye players, which makes him a bit redundant. You would have to hold him for the entirety of the byes if you want max cash gen and again, I seriously doubt he lasts that long.

With Drury, if he stays in the team (considering how bad North are, it's a possibility), he'll be making money all throughout the byes and when his bye rolls around in R15 you can trade him to any R12, R13 or R14 bye players to give yourself an extra player.
Not sure Drury makes much cash if he only scores 15-20 points…
definite put off with low scores for a full game…
With all the changes this week can see Wardlaw, Hall, Howe back in the team as well….

Current plan is
Davey and Hopper out for Berry/Sharp and D Cameron.
Berry gives me better DPP and bye coverage but I otherwise don't know who to preference.
Also considering O Baker to Sharp/Berry as a boost which would leave me 180k in the bank to eye off a Callaghan to Cripps/Neale type trade next week. Unsure if it's worth the fourth boost though, is there any good rookies coming through next round?

Really warming to taking Rowell, I have watched him over the last month & he looks back to his best to me. On Fri pm he played one of the most complete games you will see, we know how good he is at winning the contested ball but he is at last getting the easy uncontested footy also - seems to be spreading from the contests better & getting into positions to receive the ball from teammates, this article alludes to it :-

DON'T look now, but Matt Rowell is starting to expand his game.

Often questioned for not having a balance between winning ball on the inside - something he's one of the best in the AFL at - and complementing it on the outside, Rowell put together arguably the most complete performance of his career in Friday night's win over West Coast in Perth.

The raw numbers were jaw-dropping; 29 disposals, 13 of them contested, 17 tackles, six clearances, 610m gained, a goal and three goal assists.

The goal was his first of 2023, bursting from congestion and snapping on his right foot for the first goal of the game.

Rowell also took his first bounce, two in fact, of the season. The first led him to find space and hit Jack Lukosius on the lead with a lovely left-foot pass that led to a goal.

And perhaps most eye-catching of all, the 21-year-old bull had a career-high 17 uncontested possessions, mixing his game beautifully.

Rowell is now averaging almost nine uncontested possessions a game this year, up from an average of less than seven of his 48-game career.

"He was unbelievable," coach Stuart Dew said following the 70-point win.

"He used his speed and strength to get out of stoppage. He just thrives on AFL footy. I've never seen someone love their footy as much as 'Rowelly"

Rowell is putting together a fabulous season through nine rounds. He leads the league in tackles and pressure acts and is fifth for contested possessions won.

Although his 61.7 per cent contested possession rate is the highest of the top 20 contested possession winners, it is a mark barely higher than reigning Brownlow medallist Patrick Cripps (59.7 per cent).

It's not the feature of his game, but Rowell is slowly showing more of his ability to hurt the opposition away from congestion.

I will say it's actually kind of cool to have a season where the path to completing your team isn't blindingly obvious. As alluded to in another thread, once you go past Oliver and Bont you don't really have a dominant line of mids below that, it may not even be eight pure mids in an ideal side.

This has probably been exacerbated by the rookie troubles most of us have had, which is where the frustration comes in, but I can see there being a pretty wide range of mid lines post byes.

If you're looking at Cameron, you should be considering Luke Jackson. Averaging the same as Gawn in the last 3, already has R/F. Unlikely to get rested. At $475K cheaper than Darcy Cameron and Gawn.

Wonder if it says more about WCE than Rowell though 🤔

Would really appreciate some help from the community regarding my team 😥
I think it is ok but consistently scoring poorly, my C choice does not help. Brought in Ziebell and Stewart last week that's why I only have $800.
Have had a look at using my final boost but it seems to me that all I am doing is replacing current rookies with new rookies.
If anyone has the time can you have a look, any advice most appreciated 😁 1684141432677.png

From my own personal perspective, I don't really need Drury to be a good cash earner. It would be a nice bonus, but not a requirement. I already have a decent stock of cash cows waiting to be culled over the next month to finish my team. I think at this stage, with the byes approaching, job security is just as important. Sharp, Berry and Drury all have bad JS and average scoring potential but I think Drury might be given the most opportunity of the three in the short term, which makes him the most handy. Drury's DPP is also useful.

North need to keep giving games to their youngsters and I think Drury may have bought himself a few weeks in the seniors with his first half performance last week. Of course this is all just guess work.

Hi Pete, I think your team's good, just lacking some midfield scoring power, which can be fixed by going one up one down usually but you're out of funds now. I reckon you could really cash yourself up this week by offloading McKenna and Chandler down to 2 rookies, you've got great bench coverage with Mitchell, JVR and Ginbey and Rat, not so much in the mids though, you can fix that next week.
You could even get Rat fwd by bringing Madden in for Chandler.
P.S Hopper will miss 2 weeks plus so not sure what you're doing there? Good excuse to bring a value premo in maybe?
