I think i heard 6 years at a mil a year for Boyd? That seems ridiculously high, even if he is regarded as one of the next big things. Saints also looking at him apparently.

I think GWS would win. They get a ready made almost-elite player to help the club take the next step to get into finals, whereas Bulldogs get a financially-crippling youngster with a myriad of injury problems.

Boyd doesn't have injury problems and has 10-15 years in him, whereas Griffen has maybe 4 so I'd say the dogs would be big winners in a straight swap.

I didn't know Tom Boyd had a myriad of injury problems? I know Ryan Griffin has.
I agree with you on the finances. If they can front load his contract then it would be worth the risk but I think the amount clubs are spending on key position forwards is out of whack with the rest of the team. The doggies are going to have a few players with their hands out for more money in 5 years time.

This.

Why not offer 3 yrs at 500k? Still overs, can't see Boyd knocking that back.

Cannot help but think the rumors are being perpetuated by angry Cats fans, who think they got the crap end of the trade.

edit: However, some of the quotes here seem ominous.

Meh, leave my hyperbole alone. Ok, wasn't as injured as much this year but draft year he was out for at least half a season. It's still a big risk and he's no guarantee of being a gun forward. GWS still have a tall forward line and get even better in the midfield.

Think it works for them...if it is a bit low that Boyd is packing up barely 12 months after arriving.

If Geelong get Rhys Stanley for pick 21 (as rumoured) their great era has officially jumped the shark.

CONFIRMED
The mega five-way trade has been confirmed. Collingwood is finalising Travis Varcoe's contract which is the only hold up.
@heraldsunmick
Beams deal is done. Pick 67 also thrown in by Pies. Varcoe's Collingwood contract the only hold up

Absolute **** trade if it goes through. Got enough injury prone ruck/fwds on our list. Hate the idea of us effectively trading Christensen for Stanley.

Was hoping stanley had missed a few games this year.
He played 19. Not much of a discount there.
Can see him slotting in nicely at cat land.
Good scouting by the cats there.

Giles/belchambers. Both with nice discount both playing less than 10 games, both with low averages in 2014. Belchambers dpp chance. Be interesting if ryder goes. R3 perhaps if giles is the main man. R3 that can swing fwd if bel is the man.
Both can make a few coin at worst

I will be keeping a close eye on Bellchambers over summer to see how well (or not so well) he recovers. He actually had further surgery to his dodgy ankle as soon as the season was over - explains why he had such a crappy year this year.

Had no ruck cover this year. Not doing that again. One of these boys is worth 200k+ as r3

Anyone who thinks Boyd is worth a million/year should resign from all football positions, immediately! He's not Buddy, he's not NRoo, he's a 2nd year player with some potential, that has shown us very little at an AFL level so far. If Clubs start offering contracts on potential, they will need a salary cap about 5 times higher than what it is now!
Ridiculous!

Love the "jumping the shark" reference. I use it oftenish.
Who ever really thought Fonzie was in any danger in that stunt, anyway?

Any truth in the rumour Young Allen was giving Lonergans miss the old 1-2? Explains much.
