Doubt that I can afford all of these players but this is what I hope my first team will look like when the Gold is released.

Houston or Byrne Jones at D1 for me then Docherty and Rance. I’m assuming they’ll both be ready by round 1.

I like Byrne-Jones end to the year and if you omit a game that looks like an aberration or makes you believe there was something else going on where he scored 7, he averaged 102 from rounds 9-23. I don’t like the fact he broke out at age 24 as that seems a bit late and I do prefer Houston’s age, room for improvement, looming move to pure mid and his DEF/MID dpp as that might be handy around the byes.

Thinking of spending large in the middle with Fyfe, Cripps, Dunkley, Oliver & Sam Walsh/Beams & Ward. If Titch is ready he goes in for Fyfe and if I can’t afford somebody such as Dunkley or Oliver then I’d be looking at Zerrett, Yeo or Tim Kelly depending on price. Most people probably can’t afford Macrae to start with and I think Neale is probably overpriced. I trust Dunkleys later season form as sustainable over Macrae due to his younger age and role change but Macrae has produced two seasons worth of that average and is a safer 120+ bet.

There’s nothing ostensibly stopping them given how good Macrae, Dunkley and Bont are but it’s something that happens pretty rarely.

Macrae and Dunkley are likely to be the popular choices but I can see a few people going for Bont.

I agree Houston is risky if he plays defence so you'd be picking him thinking he'll play mostly midfield. When he played midfield late in the year he showed a lot of promise and scored well and I think he's a point of difference in Port's big bodied midfield that lacks skill. I don't know about 80 at best in defence either but I don't think he's a good pick unless he's playing midfield. At the moment he's training with the mids and has said he wants to play mostly midfield next year.

Byrne-Jones averaged 102 from rounds 9-23 if you take out his score of 7 whilst playing the majority of time in defence so an 80 at best average isn't true for him. A 102+ average at best is what we're looking at.

Hinkley has stated that DBJ will get midfield minutes. Not sure how much, but looks appealing.

I'm not planning on starting Steven, more of a watch list player for me. If he scores well in R1 & R2, which is possible based on previous years, I'll definitely consider him before the price changes kick in. Could have plenty of upside, equally likely to be awful again.

Might be hard to say no to Steven if he knocks out 2 tons in the JLT. Fully expect him to score well at the Cats. In 2017 and 2018, averaged 109/13 in wins at the Saints.

I agree, if looking fit and well while playing an inside midfield role during the preseason he will be impossible to pass up at around the 400k mark as a fwd/mid. Not yet that old and Geelong is a great system to be in, if there are signs we play him more in a fwd/mid role he isn't a lock but i think we have plenty of guys who can play that role and the only way he doesn't start at the center square most bounces is if he is unfit.

Reckon Steven will embrace the chance to play in a possible top 4 team. Will have a new lease of life I reckon.
