D: Laird, Stewart, Daniel, Short, Highmore, Koschitzke (Cox, Fyfe)
M: Macrae, Jelly, Zerrett, Cripps, Taranto, Campbell, Powell, Gulden (Berry, Sharp, Scott)
R: Gawn, Grundy (Flynn)
F: Dunkley, Dusty, Ziebell, Daniher, Warner, Jones (Brockman, Rowe)

Score: 2,111
Rank: 4,833

Comments: Can't be too unhappy with that score, obviously some missed chances with Rowe & Flynn but it's rookie roulette for a reason. Glad I managed to start Gulden so thanks to all who helped me make that decision.

DEF (7/10)
All 4 defensive premos were solid without being standouts, really love that consistency and I hope it continues. Got lucky with Kosi's last 5 mins to claw himself to a respectable rookie score and Highmore's 60 odd against GWS in the wet was worth noting. Moving forward, a little worried as ideally I would not like to play Cox/Kosi in that D6 position.

MID (7/10)
Big tick for Macrae, solid enough for Zerrett who got tagged and Taranto well... happy with the score but not how he got to it. Jelly & Cripps will keep a close watch, hoping for a better 2nd game. Campbell & Powell contributed with solid rookie scores but the standout of course has to be ERROL. What a debut and what a score, nothing more to be said.

RUC (5/10)
Really? This was not what I paid for so can I get a refund? Gawn I am less worried, think he will bounce back this week. Grundy however is on my emergency radar. I know he got tagged team by the WBD rucks but his body language and that Pies midfield is worrying. Let's see how he goes against my mob this Thursday.

FWD (7/10)
Highest scorer of the week (Dusty) was fantastic, absolutely in top gun mode. Dunks & Ziebell were very good too, looking likely that Ziebell may even end up as an F5/F6 type as long as his body holds. Warner's 70 I am very pleased with but I hope Daniher can improve. Jones over Rowe obviously the wrong choice but if only Jones could kick straight, the gap would have been less ugly. Brockman I hope keeps his place though looking shaky and would not want to start on field.

D: Laird, Stewart, Short, Houston, Young Koschitzke (Highmore, Fyfe)
M: Neale (C). Macrae, Merrett, Cripps, Rowell, Taranto, Powell, Gulden (Sharp, McNeil, Downey)
R: Grundy, Flynn (Hunter)
F: Danger, Martin, Dunkley, Campbell, Rowe, Brockman (Henry, Scott)

Score: 2,060
Rank: 10,980
"Lost" points: Capt 162 (no loop completed on Dusty when I could have with 2 donuts), Bench picks: Def 7, Mid 45, Ruck 0, Fwd 34 = Total 248

Heroes: Stewart (113), Young (85), Taranto (107), Gulden (139) on field, Flynn (140) on field, Dusty (158), Dunkley (113), Rowe (104) on field.
Villians: Rowell 6, Neale 77, Neale Captain, Grundy, Cripps, 2 x Rookie Donuts with no loop completed, Brockman on field, McNeil, Henry, Danger (suspension)
Trades: Rowell to Mitchell, Danger to Ziebell (if 3 weeks). Otherwise, probably just the Rowell to Mitchell or Rowell to McGrath trade.

Comments: Have ended up having 2 donuts from not properly checking the teams and taking a much more relaxed approach this year. After years of strong results, I lost interest through last year and have gone in without thinking too much about my team. Ok start as I probably overthink at the start then make excellent trades through the year in years gone past. Hopefully can continue that and work on what is a decent base of a team outside of the 2 donuts and poor captain choice / no loophole (if I even had a think would've scored 162 more points and been in the top 1000 or so with a Martin vice, donut loop option. Shows what poor planning and attention to detail can do to you though.

"Lost" points: Zmerret C 12+, Def 0, Mid 96, Ruc 0, Fwd 67 = Total 175*

Heroes: Ridley, Flynn, Ziebell, Dunkley
Villians: LUKE MACDONALD, Cahill, Grundy, my huge points loss on the bench
Trades: Danger

Comments:
So with 20 minutes to the Nth bounce I was altered that LMac was out, quad. Okay trade, but who 2? Haynes (no cash), Bowes (yup someone suggested that to me!!! OMG lols missed), Hunter Clark (thanks to those who suggested I take it, Cumming and I forgot that about L Young. In hindsight, the Bowes train might have been nice, but I don't think I'd ever take that risk based on last years scores. Clark I was close to starting. But I've gone with make some cash, hopefully in Cumming. See how it goes it's still 12 premos plus Cumming, where most have either Young (freo) or Clarke (geelong), so with $220k in the bank, I'm now toying with when to burn it, thinking end of round 4 for an early upgrade.

Was really happy to to be 5 Def premo before LMAC, I really through this and 13 premo was the best structure (i.e. skipping on most of Gawn, Neale, Seagull)

Anyways, think perhaps Jones (Ess forward), perhaps L Young are the only rookies I'm really missing, but you can't have them all! And this is probably the best I've done in terms of nailing rookies.

Selecting Danger broke two rules. Don't listen to a Scott (promised more Mid time for Danger in interview) and don't select someone with a dodgy preseason. Alas with the suspension and the early bye he's goneski.

D: Laird, Daniel, Docherty, Young, Clark, Highmore (Koschitzke, Sharp E)
M: Oliver, Macrae, JKelly, Cripps, Walsh, Taranto, Dow, Campbell, (Powell, Gulden, BerryE)
R: Gawn, Grundy (Flynn)
F: Dangerfield, Dunkley, Phillips, Ziebell, Dahiher, Treacy (Rowe, Scott E)

Score: 2,128
Rank: 3,519

"Lost" points: Capt 25, Bench picks: Def 0, Mid 83, Fwd 48 = Total 156

Heroes: Walsh, Flynn, Ziebell the standouts.
Villians: JKelly C, Grundy the only real disappointments
Trades: Probably none. Will flick Danger to mids, so I have a loophole on both Fwd and Mid lines this week.

Comments: Pretty happy overall. To be honest, not too much to talk about in either the heroes or villains column, really only Grundy. I think I've got to give Grundy another week - mostly because there's no logical trade.

One thing I would say, is that for the people saying "People holding Grundy and Gawn are about to lose a stack of cash if they don't trade" - that's really not the case at all. You only lose cash once you've sold the asset.... if Grundy goes down by $80k then goes back up to his start price, you haven't 'lost' any money at all. People who don't have them now will have the chance to buy them cheaper - yes. But if you hold them for the season, you haven't really done your dough unless they're a flop and you trade them out.

I can't see any glaring corrective trades needed. Fine with how Docherty went. Cripps showed plenty. If everyone is trading Danger out, I'll probably hold.
Not sure how I managed to get this wrong, or indeed if anyone cares, but my ruck line is actually Grundy, Flynn (Meek) .... no Gawn.

Very happy with the start.
Took a punt with cheaper defence although concerned with Duggan
Going with SMartin in ruck worked ok i guess
Grabbed most of the rookies but concerned with
Tyson and Brockman

Trades
Maybe Tyson to Jordon

Villians: Me for not starting fellow crow Rowe..
Trades: Danger out for Martin and will hold 152k in the bank, will most likely trade in Rowe & Jordon at the end start of Round 3

Comments:
Decided to throw all of my pre-season team drafts out the window and run with the Rookie ruck combo's will wait and see if Hunter holds his spot, I believe Meek will. Gawn and Grundy will bounce back, Grundy has only scored over 100 once in Round 1 so owners shouldn't panic. Very happy with the score, noticing quite a few sub 2k scores with Rowe and Gulden stuck on the bench in some teams.

Final Team

LLOYD , LAIRD , DANIEL , STEWART , Fantasia , Highmore / Koschitze , Sharp

MACRAE , MERRETT , KELLY , BOAK , CRIPPS , Berry , Scott , Powell / Gulden , McNeil , A Fyfe

Flynn , Hunter / Meek

DANGERFIELD , DUNKLEY , MARTIN , ZORKO , Ziebell , Campbell / Fullarton , Rowe

Already mentioned what could've been if I fielded Gulden & Rowe , I might get over it one day 😀

Heroes : Me

Stubbornly stuck to my 3 rookie ruck line up (based on the scoring I actually now think this was the wrong approach to take , the joys of hindsight)

Hunter & Meek now could cause major problems very quickly.

Dangers suspension possibly allows a cash injection for a short term (Martin or Hickey) solution if required for Round 3.

It did allow me to get 13 "real" premiums though , at one stage I had H Clark , Duggan , Rowell , Taranto all their + Daniher , Dow & Impey.

Strangely enough I always thought I would end up with Heeney or Ziebell at F1 , Heeney missed the cut and Ziebell was F5.

Just goes to show how pointless it is locking in structures/teams weeks in advance before Round 1 teams are announced.

Was strong on Fantasia all pre season.

Did mean I fielded 7 rookies which still could be too many.

Don't have Jordon or Warner , probably won't chase Jetta or McDonald

Would actually like to hold Dangermouse but know I need $$$ if I need to fix Hunter/Meek ASAP , maybe Cripps is the sacrificial lamb 🤔

Be a lot easier with concrete news about Darcy , Marshall , McStay & Ryder.

Certainly a great (and completely new) feeling starting the competition with a high score.

Hopefully it continues.
This is the best Herbie team I've seen. Even if the rookie ruck line doesn't pan out I think it is genuinely worth a punt and you're other picks are very good. You've got a really good setup to get to full premo quickly. Danger was bad luck as he's been as reliable as they come.
Is it Jelly or Telly?
I ended up with Jelly even though I swore I wouldn't but once all the rookies appeared I just couldn't find anyone else I liked for that place. Fingers crossed and I only have myself to blame if he breaks down again.
Good luck mate.

I guess when you play around with your team every single day for 30+ days you get a combination that works 😀

I do think my 13 premiums (like most other teams should have) are "real" premiums , previous versions I had 2-3 speculative picks.

Probably had 8-10 players I liked in the Fantasia/Ziebell price range so hopefully they both work (ideally they would be my last upgrades)

Already having doubts about the all rookie ruck line , stated before I think they all need to play the first 6-8 games to make it work , but they need to be up near the 75ppg to make $$$ quickly enough.

Just need to sit and wait for Round 2 now (if they play).

The rest of my rookies look the popular ones so like everyone just hope they play enough and score well to allow downgrades/upgrades.

Think I have too many onfield rookies , but the only way out was probably dropping a forward premium to Daniher and then getting Tyson at M6.

Just see now what happens Round 2.

It's Kelly of the Jelly variety (in case he breaks again he becomes R1/R2 which I have absolutely no idea after Round 1 who they will be)

Thanks

I agree the rookie rucks hasn't worked yet and may not. Flynn got them out of trouble. But you have to create the opportunity to get lucky. Stef, Flynn and Meek looks the best play at the moment. But I also think fading the superstars looks like a good play too and there is no need to rush them in. Stef, Hickey and Fullarton are options before their price rise and Treacy and CCJ could be available down the track. It's quite fun at the moment without really knowing which way it will go.

FOR: Danger F/M, Dunkley F/M, Dusty F/M, Phillips F/M, Warner, Bergman (Rowe, Scott F/M)

Heroes: Dusty, Flynn, Gulden, Ridley, Walsh, Dunks, Phillips.
Villians: Danger, Cripps, Neale, Me for not having JZ when he has been in my team since SC opened.
Trades: Danger if gets 3 games. Really want JZ but I do have a 4 keeper forward line, so not sure, could go Danger to JZ and a rook up to a keeper mid. And maybe a rook correction if McNeil or Bergman don't get picked.
Comments: Gone a 3 rookie ruck which was ok this week because of Flynn's monster and Grawndy being disappointing. Not sure how this will pan out. Not much more to say, reasonably happy so far with most of my selections. I think that is my best rank ever.

Score: 2161
Rank: 1857
"Lost" points: 39- Moved Warner to the bench allowing Bergman to come on field.

Heroes: R Sloane, E Gulden, M Flynn, J Ziebell, J Dunkley and J Macrae (C)
Villians: L Neale and B Grundy
Trades: Out: B Grundy and P Dow/M Bergman, In: S Martin and D Martin
Comments: Very pleased with the start and hopefully can capitalise on it in the coming rounds. A relief that Sloane is off to a fast start and with his upcoming draw, there should be an opportunity for some more 115+ scores. The Neale and Bergman spots were the main positions changing in the lead up to RD1 and featured Dusty, Heppell, Fyfe and Oliver at various stages but I am not too concerned about the start as I was well aware of Neale's poor record against the Swans and hopefully he can compensate for it in the upcoming rounds.

Heroes: Stewart, Laird, Short, Macrae, Ziebell and bench warmers Flynn, Gulden and Rowe.
Villains: Duggan, Grundy, Neale, Cripps, Steele, Dangerfield, Gawn
Planned Trades: Given my poor start I might be forced to do something with Dangerfield but I would prefer to hold.

Comments: Last year I had my worst start to the season ever, scoring just over 1,900 points. This year I thought I won’t start so many mid pricers and take a safer GnR approach. End result, I have outdone myself and had an even worse start, however my rank is similar to what it was last year after round 1. No point crying, I just need to focus on getting back into it. By seasons end last year I had my highest rank finish ever, just inside the top 2k, so no reason why I can’t do that again. I am actually happy with my team with maybe Duggan my only regret at this stage. I still feel that my 6 “villain” premiums are more than capable of finishing in the pointy end of their position so I don’t need to fall for a round 2 panic trade. Last weeks points are gone so I will start by focussing on this week.

M: Steele, Oliver, Macrae, Merrett (C), Cripps, Campbell, Powell, Berry, (Brockman, Gulden, Scott*)

Don't really consider points lost, especially in Round 1, especially rookies. There's literally endless 50/50's. At least I got the Rowe and Guilden, even if they were on my bench. Not going to lament.

Heroes: Stewart, Oliver, Macrae, Flynn, Dunkely, Ziebell, (Guilden, Rowe, bench)
Villians: Cripps, Danger - rookies are a raffle.
Trades: Unsure. Danger? Brockman? Fullarton? None?

Comments: Went Gawn to Grundy before lockout. I actually think that was a win: only missed 20 points, and now have 100k. Another small win, (after only 1 round mind you) is that I didn't use that 100k on changing Stewart to Lloyd, so I effectively made up the points I lost on Gawn to Grundy. Same thing with Steele to Neale, held off on that. Both Gawn and Neale I felt were way overpriced and or had compromised pre-seasons, and I was compromised on other lines. Also felt with the rule changes and only one game of data there might be some merit in saving a chunk of cash for corrections. A few underwhelming premos, but they will straighten out. Anyway, with limited pre-season, and great help as usual from SCS, I'm pretty satisfied with my start. Now what to do with the extra cash?

Rookie Roulette at its finest, Jordon/Gulden/Rowe all benched costing north of 230 points 🥲

Heroes: Sturdy backline premiums, Flynn, Ziebell, overall Rookie selection (Gulden, Rowe, Jordon)
Villians: Steele’s second half? Couldn’t Rookie Roulette properly 😆
Trades: Dangerfield out, unsure about the second

Comments:
Overall not a bad round, probably more laminating over the ‘what-if’s’, quite annoyed about not having Jordon/Gulden/Rowe lost a good amount of points - going to stick with them week in week out now and will be committed. Issues with Neale & Gawn but will stay the course. Thinking about Stephenson (playing straight mid) and may observe the next game for the players until pulling trades

Comments: Best round 1 ranking i've ever had and pretty happy across the board with most selections and general structure. Going deep in defence was always the play for me since watching JLT and seeing how rebounding defenders scored. Had Gawn as R1 up until Saturday morning but after JLT ruck scores and the opening 2 rounds of the weekend i backed my gut and dropped him for Meek and played Flynn. Would have paid off handsomely if it wasn't for Neale who i got instead. Alot to play out and not sure if it's worth while for the stress levels endured every game Gawn plays and barracking against his intercept marks. Happy with my rookie selections and seemed to avoid most of the low scoring ones that didn't do their js any favours. In saying this, Dow, Meek and Brockman dont exactly seem to be solidified in their best 22s. Was 50/50 on selecting a rookie donut to hopefully play, was leaning against it after Scott's E score and Macrae's VC score. However Rowe scoring so well forced my short sighted hand and i decided to trade in Spicer. However it meant benching Gulden who was on my field all preseason so actually lost 35 points. However if i didn't take Spicer i would have captained Neale, so Macrae VC and playing it safe with a 118 got those points back. I think a rookie loop will be valuable with the inconsistent ultra premium scores so far that we have taken for granted as captaincy options in the past.

Hopefully no trades this week if Danger escapes with 2 weeks unless i want to go hard early. Even 3 weeks im not confident in trading considering his draw when he returns and the guarantee of a top 6 forward pick. In terms of rookie corrections, Jordon seems the obvious one. Will also be watching Mcdonald, H.Jones and Sharp over the weekend.

Team that is 1st overall is insanely good, any half competent coach would be able to make sure that team stays in the top 100 for the whole year. Considering he has chosen that side, makes me think he is already alot more than half competent. Will make slip ups along the way like all coaches, will be following it closely over the year. Decent start by SCSBOTB, starting at 129th in league ranks.

Comments: Well, that was irritating and a pretty standard SC rd 1 for team PC, one day I will field the right rookies. Rowe and Gulden on the bench with no E = lame. Was soooo tempted to move Grundy to Meek but didn't ultimately. Got FOMO and traded Short out for Cripps 5 min before the bounce. Also was very close to taking Macrae VC, didn't. All decisions that I went wrong on and ended up costing me.

Early days but looking with envy at scores over 2100, already feeling well behind. Move on, get better and keep the rant threads in my favs. Well done to those kicking arse (y)
