Neale's start to 2019 shows he can do well in longer quarters, it is more a question whether the dumbass coaches start to tag he more now because he has a brownlow around his neck, more embarrassing now if they let him off the leash. How they have disrespected him in the past and not paid attention to him staggers me.

Richmond are happy not to tag Neale as they think he is not going to hurt them on the scoreboard.

Dustin Martin used to accumulate posessions in the defensive half on the field, he did not become a better player until he was involved in scoring chains.

To be fair, Tigers rarely tag as they back their own game of constant pressure and rebound handball fast transition. Buckley use to say the same about Tom Mitchell.

Neale had a poor game by his standards (19 possessions) vs Tiger in the finals, yet still participated in 25% of Brisbane's score involvements, had more score involvements than Dusty (5 vs 4) and kicked a goal vs Dusty zero.

I always think for the Eagles they do best when Hutchings is tagging a midfielder, rather than tagging a rebounding defender.

I'm trying to put together a check list for my starting team this season, to ensure I don't pick dodgy starters, as I usually do. This will basically be a list of rules that I'll make sure I'm sticking to for a change. This includes stuff like "No key forwards" and "Don't pick based on high scoring pre-season games" - both have burned me multiple times previously. I know we have a lot of very good coaches here, any suggestions for items to add to this list will be greatly appreciated.

Also, has anyone heard what is happening with the number of trades and price changes this season? This will influence my starting team: if prices change after 2 games rather than 3 again, the right rookie selection especially is crucial. I badly messed things up last year and it took me over half the season to fix up my starting side.

Is Taranto a better prospect scoring wise or being retained (Keeper)?

I personally prefer Taranto to Williams. If he can bounce back from last season to 2019 form he seems a reasonable stepping stone pick up until around the byes when I would be looking at switching him to a top liner. Williams is injury prone and although he might get more mid time at a new club, it is still a bit of an unknown to me.

Here are some rules that I forget, to my detriment:

• Does the midfielder get played in the forwards for the majority of the game?

What is Hutchings chances of playing or is it a game by game proposition?

Hamstring issue, so with time and preparation should be ok. More the question is what position he plays, defensive half forwards are not as valuable as tagging midfielders for SC points. Remembering that he wasn't the highest scorer as a mid tagger, with a 50,51 and 66 ave in 2017-19.

Tough with only 2 jlt/marsh games but there are really only a few ways i can think of to check if the fwd may get mid time.

1. Are they just keeping a mids spot warm in the preseason game (and we know that mid will be back for round 1)
2. Who are they training with during the preseason.
3. Is a key mid injured (often happens in season)
4. What does the coach say

If you are including a speculative pick in your starting team what is the exit strategy if it goes pear shaped. Are you willing to trade down to a rookie or try to trade up to a keeper and how much cash/trades will it take if the latter.

This is the problem at the moment. Nobody knows how Covid will affect the season. Personally I think a lockdown in one or more of the AFL states is a given. What we don't know is if that means hubs again and short quarters etc.

I am aware of that but with Covid and the need to keep the game going at all costs the AFL could change that decision in the blink of an eye. I think nothing is guaranteed and it will depend on how the Covid scenario develops.

I find this is a useful website for assessing how players moved through the centre last season. Because the info is given team by team you can see which players were brought in as other team mates got injured etc. It also often helps explains the scores of some players. IE a player scoring in the 90's suddenly goes 110 and it matches with a game where he got more CBA than normal.

Interestingly Tim Taranto best games for CBA (10 & 15) did not equate to his best scores and his TOG changed very little except for Round 17.

Risk vs reward for mid price players in my opinion isn’t worth it. If they don’t pay off you burn to many trades to get upgrade them specially in the midfield. Been burnt to many times before. I’m going 12 premo, I’m guilty with I mid price in the forward line in rozee and all the rest rookies.

The shortened quarters bumped up mid def and ruck scores but brought down fwd scores. So i expect to see the key fwds doing a bit better this year. Usually comes down to ladder position. Jeremy cameron or a more inform tom lynch could be the big movers up
