Will be some decent options locked out on the Wednesday of round 1. The toughest call will be on Gawn.

Dale, Daniel, May, Salem
Macrae, Oliver, Bont, Petracca
Gawn
Dunkley, Treloar, English, Jackson
Some others and potentially rookies.

Will only have Wednesday and Thursdays teams. Hopefully some early rookie debutants announced.

Yeah, good pick up @Connoisseur

TOG down from 88-89% in 2019/18 to 81%
Hit outs down 25% to 32
CP down 20%
Given less TOG you would expect stats would not drop off to the same degree, given energy levels should be higher, yet Grundy's do.

Darcy Cameron came in and starting hit outs from round 5 where he had 20-30% of HO's. Was this an impact?

Without DC for 4 rounds - 114.8 SC points
With DC and excl injured round - 117.9 points

CBA don't look to have differed to much in last 6 rounds where Grundy dropped off, 74-92%.

Buckley's last game was in June so that doesn't look a factor, although maybe there was a delayed impact.

some drop off in disposal in last 3 games ended a poor year for Grundy. Was it a 7 year deal hangover, well the start of the year doesn't suggest it. Came back solid after neck injury, what is concerning is in the last six games, he played his 2nd game of the year against the same sides (5 of those 6 games), with material downside from game 1.

Bris 162 vs 82
Carlton 135 vs 88
Port 138 vs 85
Essendon 153 vs 83
WCE 134 vs 110

Does the several kg drop in weight make a difference given it didn't at the start of the year. All I know is everyone has Grundy in their side!

I remember in 2021 watching Grundy and just off an eye test appeared to be playing more of a traditional ruck and being a target up the ground rather than being like dean cox and linking up in possession chains more.

I might be wrong but i do recall thinking his role was slightly tweaked once bucks departed. If you are a ruckman and lining up against grundy, you would much prefer if he was playing a traditional ruck role vs linking up. If he plays as a midfielder the opposition ruck wouldn't know what to do at times - run with him and find yourself chasing his tail all game or just plugging gaps down the ground.

I'm hoping he gets more pill in 2022. He is locked in for mine

Im a mad Richmond supporter and dusty is a gun but if your starting two premos in the fwd I think Dunkley and Duncan have more scoring ability than dusty. Doesn’t mean they are better players not even in the same ball park.
Agreed Dusty is an absolute superstar. One of if not the best player of his generation, stuff all the stats and fantasy performances, this guy has delivered 3 Norm Smiths and been huge when it counted. I used to think Dangerfield/Fyfe were the best, but Dusty has had too much influence with winning premierships.

On the topic of picking him for 2022, hard no. Tigs as a team don't produce good SC scorers, its an even spread of points across the team. Other players like dunks cash in when they can and seem more likely to go huge compared to dusty. why risk a starting pick here? he won't be scoring at rate where you can't afford him, give him some games to settle and we see how he is - definite trade in target for mine.

Hello Everyone

What are people's thoughts on:

How is his preseason, considering it is the last year of his contract?
Honestly, I personally won't be touching Hanners with a ten foot pole.

Loved the bloke, was a great player and such a shame that injuries got him.

Going with the assumption that he's fully fit, gets through an entire preseason and preseason games etc, I'm not sure you'll get too much more out of him than his 2021 average there to be honest. I'd think there's better options either side of his price.

Apparently Grundy really struggled with the hub setup in 2020.

Melbourne went into a lockdown in c. July 2021, and he played Carlton on July 18.

Perhaps that was a factor?

Is Constable even best 22 at GC? Can't see how hed be ahead of any of Rowell,Anderson,Miller and Hollands and they still have all of Weller,Swallow,Fiorini,Davies and Flanders capable of playing midfield and are more versatile players, has been plenty of talk Jack Bowes is also moving back into their midfield.

Hard for any of us to answer mate. Pre season games and match simulations reports from clubs might give us a bit more insight closer to rd 1. I think you need to get cogs back in though, if he is fit, you assume he plays and its just a really safe pick if fit to make money - and he is DPP, and probably the most selected player in 2022. If he goes 90 that is bad if you don't have him and the whole comp basically as him.

I'd say no - he's a good starting pick but plenty of others that can fill the void.
Agreed, Oliver isn't a must start - it depends how you want to start your team as there certainly is no value here. The top 3 priced mids are all in a similar basket. Whoever you pick ''should'' be okay from an uber season long keeper perspective. Macrae, Steele and Oliver have all backed up with multiple 120 averages in a row, and are in a prime age bracket and seem really durable too - I'm starting all 3!

Very smart and realises the importance of a career after football and a healthy balance during his playing career as he alludes to in the following articles.

With the heavy workload and short turnaround between games over the past season or two, I would not be surprised if he requested the coaching staff for decreased minutes last season to possibly reduce the risk of injury and to ensure the Pies get a nice return on investment on his lengthy contract.

If history is anything to go by, we may have to go 4 premium mids only this year. There has been a lack of cheaper defenders lately. Quality rookies round1 has dropped off and corona ball will only make this worse as less players are ready made, although we may have seen few more mature age selections on the back of this.

Cogs looks like a must if healthy. Think you pick you best value creating rookies and low end mid pricers then go from there.

yeah, you could be right. appreciate he did get impacted by 2020 hub life significantly and looks to have a sensitive side.

That is a question getting asked a fair bit. Out of that list, he must be up there in terms of inside players. Does Anderson go more wing?

Pure high quality premiums rarely have value and need to be selected on certainty of delivering. Tim Mitchell has value vs Olivier however Macrae, Oliver, Steele, Miller and Neale look better capt options.

Lets hope he bounces back.Seems a lock for most, in my team although not sold yet.

Does Darcy Fort start in Brisbane’s best 22 or is there just in case the big O goes down?
If Brisbane has their three balls playing, then you would think Forts role may be more off the bench, rather than rotating one forward through the ruck. Bog O had an awesome finish, however, injuries seem to help his cause last year.

Regarding Mitchell, you may be referring to the fixturung (which I haven’t checked) but I used to like him as a great C (not necessarily VC) option, because of his high floor.

That seemed to drop away in the first half of last season (five scores from 76-90) but returned in the second half (all scores 110+).

Yeah, more VC in 2H of season given 125 ave. Just flagging that the others give more certainty of performance although if you assume Mitchell now recovered from leg injury then he could move into this bracket. Olivier Macrae all feel interchangeable and will be in our final sides, although, if you have several of those top end names then I can see one getting dropped to Mitchell if it frees up enough spare change to do something else worthwhile. Hoping we get a Preuss type ruck choice which free up some money for mids, currently swinging between 4-5 premium mids with defender rookies and midpricers the key driver.
