I remember he was in everyone's summer teams as a placeholder rookie until getting injured

Him and Kai have arrived in perfect time for upgrade season
Although neither (one hasn't even been confirmed to debut) have played at this level before so we have no idea how they will score or if they will even be on the bubble 🤔

Not sure my bench players will have even generated enough $$$ by Round 7 to effect a trade in any case , but others will have different circumstances.

Can anyone provide much insight into NOD?
I haven't seen the last few Freo games. Feels like the 100 was a little outlier. I'm assuming we're thinking he's around a 70average? Not sure I'm overly sold on his JS but happy to be talked around.

I have to make one trade this weekend, to be able to shift some bench rookie positioning around to make sure I can get decent coverage other than Hough and Ward for Cripps.

NoD was last week's must have. Is Rosas the same this week? Doesn't quite seem to have quite as complete a skill set as NoD, particularly for SC scoring reliability.

I think he is. Plays a high HF type role and passed the eye test for me. I went early on him!
I'd go counter point on this, small forward in a bad team is not a good role BUT he's got strong runs on the board, going to make basically half what is needed at this point this week without scoring much and given the likes of Sexton and MacPherson have had years to prove they're not the answer should get at least a couple of weeks to work his way out of the side on the worst case, which is probably 85k made if that did happen.

I'd say he's more the "if you've got a ripe cow" strong downgrade option than a Martin/Daicos must have type. So basically he's a very good option if you've got an obvious out to bring him in, so say an Owens/Hough/Soligo type or potentially even a Durdin if the 70k is helping out.

Basically he's a very solid option but he's not a guy you'd want/need to be fielding so if you're just trading for the sake of it, he's not a reason to justify that.

Any other rookies worth a look? Apart from Rosas.
Preuss if considered a rookie.

Erasmus on the bubble but JS obviously not good.

Skinner also on the bubble, after the way their KPD played he's at least a chance.

Windhager I think is holding down spots for senior players but he's also on the bubble, unless the DPP is needed I think Rosas is just a better option with the runs on the board and better JS, Windhager's role has actually been solid though.

McEntee is basically Rosas without the big scores and way worse JS, if he was to get back in.

Honestly though, I think it's Preuss > Rosas> daylight > Windhager > a lot more daylight > the rest.

As far as on the bubble goes, just Preuss I reckon.

Hayes and Hobbs both good in their first matches.
Yep, would be planning strongly for these two next week as a double down so that may mean going early.

Hobbs - Was one of their best in an embarrassing effort all round, imo. There's no reason to be playing several of the senior guys ahead of him, already shows more composure with the pill.

Hayes - Serious concerns about his tank but they've really got nothing else, Marshall/Finlayson are weak and bad by 2nd ruck standards, Visentini is even rawer than Hayes. He was very decent in the contest prior to gassing hard, will be better for seeing the standard required you'd think, going to be spending the week on the treadmill!

Both are fieldable standard rookies, albeit I think it's unlikely either will be fielded given the strength of most sides this year where guys like Daicos are M8 level.

+1, I would avoid. Billings and Clark are due back in Rd 6-7, Ryder returns from suspension in Rd 7 and Jones (personal leave) is best 22 and could get named out of the blue.

Edit: of course Jimmy Webster will be back (COVID protocols)

Pretty sure Jones played for Sandringham on the weekend also, so would think he's close, picture I saw he looked fit so would think it's a 1-2 week at most situation. When Windhager's role was good it was a role Jones would take as well.

Thank you all for your replies. Hayes has probably got the best JS with Lycett out. Not many possessions which is concerning, but ruckwork was good. If he can get 80 each game, I'd trade Xerri out and upgrade elsewhere. Dixon and Saint Hayes still mooing.

Wouldn't be ditching Xerri if it can be avoided, he's got plenty of mooing left in him also. Makes close to 100k over the next 3 with a 90 average and is one game where he missed the best part of a quarter of the game from being a genuine premium level scorer so far and should continue to improve. Right now 95 is a very solid level for a F6 and he's shown the ability to push towards that.

There's a pretty good reason: Merrett, Stringer, Walla, Langford, Snelling, Jones, Stewart and when Phillips went down, 2MP had to back up ruck so couldn't play forward/or have a chop out - where he's needed and where he's been kicking 3 a game even in loses. So much of our structure is absent - not to say that excuses the lack of effort and appalling skill errors on the weekend. So that's not disagreeing with you, but we've got so many players injured there's little choice but to play underperforming senior players.

That said the point pertinent to Hobbs and rookies, is even when or if those 8 or 9 of our best 22 come back in, I'd agree that Hobbs should stay in over most of the "senior" players that ran the other night. He's going to be a definite rookie to bring in next week, and if you needed to, a week early.

Agreed.. Especially as the last thing you want with all these ruck/forwards is to have a dead weight ruck only rookie stuck on the pine!
This is probably the reason why I wont bring in S Hayes, already have Dixon and Xerri as Ruc/Fwds, will possibly bring English in as well. Have Witts R1, Preuss R2 which would mean that my ruckline is locked if I bring in Hayes.

Yeah it feels like Preuss and Hayes limits a team pretty significantly, especially as most have a Witts/Grundy/Gawn type as the 3rd ruck so the cover option goes out the window!
