Yeah I get what you mean. I'm kind of afraid he could be the Tex Walker of last year that gets to 400K quickly and made everyone who didn't jump on regret it haha but yeah it could still go either way.

It would be nice if he took some kick outs to provide a bit more score security, but it seems like May has a monopoly on those...

Im in a situation where I can afford Cripps,Hewett and Heeney all in one hit, so dont feel like Bowey really comes into the conversation for me.

CJ played a totally different role to Bowey though, being an intercept king made me alot more confident his output was sustainable, not sure that's the case with Bowey.

He also took far more intercept marks than he will in an average game.

The guys a midget, floating into a contest and taking intercept marks surely isnt sustainable, Is a reflection how bad Gold Coasts forward line functions more than anything else for mine.

CJ played a totally different role to Bowey though, being an intercept king made me alot more confident his output was sustainable, not sure that's the case with Bowey.

Interestingly CJ dropped right off after that, with only 2 more 100+ scores and 7 under 72 points. It more a case to highlight that these bolters don't need to be sustainable season picks to do their job, and you could argue it's an easier ask for Bowey as the 151 easily trumps CJ's best score.

Won't be for all but I certainly see it as a viable option if a team is set for the other obvious selections this week. Also reckon its a great bail out for a backline mid pricer that isn't working (aka, Chapman).

Probably the most important thing is to have a plan - for me, it would be to ride him to DPP changes where Daicos slots back into his spot and he becomes an upgrade to a premium that started slow (someone like Steele perhaps). But getting him in without an exit strategy is the danger because he can easily start losing cash from when he peaks!

Yeah fair enough. I'm currently debating Hewett v Bowey myself.

Bowey is this week or never, so could getting Hewett for $450-470K next week instead still be viable if he's a keeper? You also get a look at him with Cripps, Walsh, Cerra & Kennedy all playing.

So Hayes and Bowey are the best two cash cows this week, not sure Bowey is worth the 2 trades (one to get him in and out) I assume you would be refering to Hewett and Heeney

I would be chasing value. The best cash cows for the year are often the ones who start round 1 and we now have so much more information on the value premiums. From memory the 2014 winner started with 4 failed midpricers and traded them to Gray, Parker, Swallow and Jacobs who were all unproven and became keepers. Despite midpricers often failing, winners teams are littered with successful ones.
Lots to take a punt on this year.
Hewett, McDonald, Cripps, Rowell, Heeney, Butters, Lipinski, Witts, English, Jackson, Green, HYoung, Gulden.

I agree. Undervalue keepers don't come along everyday but there will be other cash cows.

This is exactly my plan with bringing Bowey in this week. I picked Braeden Campbell hoping for early big points and then flipping him to a fallen mid premo through Daicos dpp. Campbell isn’t working and Bowey is so I’ll make that change, the flip to a fallen mid premo plan continues

Definitely don’t advocate dropping whitfield down to Bowey as some are saying

Just been looking into that myself, looking at scores from the end of last season/stats/goals :-




SC Scores :-


Round 17, just the 1 goal - 95 SC

Round 18, no goals - 86 SC

Round 20, no goals - 98 SC

Round 21, no goals - 67 SC

Round 22, 1 goal - 87 SC

So 1 poor score out of those games when just 1 or no goals.

In his role rotating between midfield & forward, I think we could expect him to realistically kick at least 1 goal a game - he has kicked 156 goals in his 131 game thus far.

Three seasons averaging between 94 and 98 without kicking three goals a game.
