This is making the assumption that Geelong will even use Stewart as a lockdown defender on Greene. He's been starting on a wing the last couple of weeks and pushing back as the spare man. They're going to use Greene as a defensive forward? They should have brought De Boer in for that whose been doing that kind of role when he's been in their team.
Toby Greene is the best small player, one on one, in both the air and at ground level, in whole League. If they put MDB on Stewart, he'll rack up 20 marks. Greene won't play lockdown on Stewart. There is a difference between lockdown, and making accountable.

Edit - you never said Greene would play lock down on Stewart. The rest holds though.

This is the same team that used Coniglio as a defensive forward on a tall not that long ago, you never know.

Do Geelong even play man on man defence or just play the zonal space game ?

They will just rotate any matchups until they get Stewart in the best spot for them.

GWS will adjust if they wish to put time into Stewart , then Scott will turn to the defensive coach and politely ask can you please get Stewart in the best position for us.

And round and round we go until they say stuff this let's just play football on natural instincts (wishful thinking on my behalf)

Is it me or are there more players out with illness this year compared to other years?
Not counting Covid, just others like gastro and other unspecified illnesses.
It's because today's players are soft.

It's not like the '80s when they just pushed through with gastro. In fact, that's the main reason why Hawthorn stopped wearing white shorts for away matches.

West Coast players attended a night club last week breaking covid rules.

Club statement:
The West Coast Eagles are aware that some players attended a Leederville nightclub last Saturday and are continuing to investigate the matter.

Given the current environment and the peak in COVID-19 cases in Perth the club is devastated that some players opted to go out publicly as they have done.

Senior coach Adam Simpson, in quarantine under AFL Health and Safety Protocols, said: “I am furious and disappointed with the actions of these players.”.

The club has gone to great lengths in educating the players around the need to adhere to club guidelines and it is beyond disappointing that they have put themselves in this situation.

It is particularly disheartening given the strain on player availability at this stage of the season.

At the earliest opportunity the club will meet with the players concerned.

Gastro and illness (other than covid) has been flying around Melbourne the last 2-3 weeks. I reckon just about everyone I know has been hit, so not too surprising it’s getting players at the moment.

But reckon you are right, definitely a spike in general illness causing players to miss this year.
