I've decided to not go anywhere near those midprice forwards, unless they have a rolled gold position as at least the 4th banana in midfield/stoppages. Fyfe still has me tempted because he could still put up a score of 70 odd after being subbed in the 4th quarter, he only needs to average 70+ to make him worthwhile particularly over the early byes.

Just doing some post round 0 planning based on hypotheticals:
- I’ve got a few round 0 premiums in at the moment, but will I keep them if they score a 70 in round 0? I think I’d probably pivot.
- What about a 90? It would depend on the premium. I think if it’s Grundy (own) or Gawn (I don’t own) who both have been downwards trending then I’d pass. If it’s Sam Walsh who’s younger and on his way up then I’d hold.
- What if a premium I don’t have goes large? Eg if Gawn scores 150, then I’d probably want to bring him in.
- What about a 120? I’d probably pass if Gawn, but maybe more strongly consider if Walsh or Green.
- What happens if a key forward kicks 7+ and scores 160+? I’d probably consider given we can trade them if for free, and ideally trade them out at or before there bye for an early profit. This move in other years costs 2 trades, but it only takes 1 this year.
- What if Zac Williams (or another sub $300k player) scores a 70? Is that enough to see, or would I prefer a rookie? I think I’d prefer a rookie and change him out given the Round 2 bye. Given his price doesn’t change til after his bye, the best plan may be to start without him anyway and reassess in a few games. Of course if he scores a 90 then I’d start him and suck it up.
This is the only year where we can see a score that will count towards BE before picking a player, so I think it’s good to work through hypotheticals before they become real so I’ve got a plan.

I was thinking about this today and trying to put some boundaries in place - I can see people ripping their teams apart R0/1 and possibly ending up in more pain bringing in high scoring Round 0 premiums they were otherwise probably not considering.

It’ll be really interesting to see the ownership numbers prior and coming out of R0

I like the idea of fading a Giants or Suns premium (realistic list being from Green, Briggs, Witts, Anderson, Rowell, Miller, Whitfield, Powell, Greene, Flanders) if they have a poor round 0 (sub 70), as you can avoid the price drop and see two more scores without spending the initial trade to move them out.
- At worst by doing this move, you spend a trade to sideways them in after their bye and you get a little price decrease on their starting price.
- At best, you avoiding starting the player who starts slowly and everyone else gets cheaply with their first upgrade.

No surprise at all really, too much risk attached for mine - can see him getting rested for away games & being a big sub candidate in the games he plays.
. I have the Fyfe at the moment as a cash cow, i don't expect him to be a keeper nor play every game. All i need from him is to average 85 and play 5 of the first 7 games say. If he is managed and misses 1 of the first 6 rounds one of them will be a best 18 anyway. If he's going to be back in the middle permanently like they say he is IMO he is gaurenteed to average 85. Without doing the maths i assume he would make similiar cash as a 123k rookie who averages 55. If managing him means he gets subbed however, then yes that would be a disaster as it would ruin his average and cash gen. I could handle him playing only 5 out of the first 7 games, but the sub would be a disaster.

For me, score is less relevant than role. Score only effects 1 price change so it’s more have I read their role wrong and need to make an adjustment.

Feel like fyfe was looking great this time last year too?

I will find it interestng how Freo set up the field with CBA and FWD Line stoppages. Naturally Jackson will attend CBA as RK, but evne more interesting is the talk of him and his expansion to a MID role. I am also excpecting Darcy to miss 4-5 games and Jackson to go 110+ when darcy is on the sidlines.

With Macrae and his hammy issues, Jackson now becomes F1 in my team.

Would the stats gurus have any data on how often Darcy and Jackson where at CBA together from last year.??
Yeah, Freo's midfield is really a watch and see isn't it.
Obviously Brayshaw and Serong are solid, then the talk is Young, Fyfe are full time midfielders. Jackson probably will pinch hit as a midfielder maybe a few a game depending on matchups I suppose?
Where's that put O'Meara? And looking at this Brodie played only 4 games and is fourth highest on %

My thoughts/guess for the midfield rotation:
Serong 82%, Brayshaw 80%, Young 79%, Fyfe 49%, Others 10%

I expect Brodie won't be in the team (at least while Fyfe is fit) & it's hard to project Jackson getting centre bounces as a midfielder, although every chance he's the 4th stoppage player at general contests around the ground at times. Similarly I expect Johnson/Erasmus to largely remain out of the rotation for centre bounces, but they'll be there around the ground at times.

JOM is the main other player but it certainly seems he's pushed out (to a wing possibly? Can't recall where he's been playing in Freo match sim)
Switowski would get his usual 10-15% but currently injured so not sure what his status will be like early in the season.

Yeah, not so sure about Laurie about to be in everyone’s SC team. He may have scored 77 in Fantasy but I reckon he would have been lucky to score 50 SC.

With Oliver, Brayshaw, Salem, Hunter, McAdam and Spargo all missing but not far away, I think Laurie is a prime candidate to be squeezed out based on his performance today. Hopefully he is more impressive against Carlton next week.
