Opinion 2024 AFL SuperCoach Planning Thread

I didn't watch ever but what I find most telling is Ladhams 71% TOG and Grundy 60% TOG.

There is media out there that think the swans will opt for 2 rucks.

Lots of Grundy out this morning. If he is a loan ruck round 0 could be just as many back in.
Yeah, if Ladhams is anywhere near the team sheet in round 0 or 1, that's a bit of a red flag for Grundy.

Good to the eye was it? I didn't see it, but very few CBAs, very few clearances at stoppages and not great stats overall is worrying.

Role was good but eye catching for the wrong reasons. He couldn't hold an important tackle on d50 and chose a horrible chaos entry ball into the forward 50.

Giants pressure was A1 for most of the night. Last 5 mins of Q3 and early in the 4th excepted. But at 88-22 in praccy match, understandable.

That's the issue I saw last night and crazy if people don't at least acknowledge it as a threat. If Ladhams is remotely near team selection round 0/1 I'll have a plan B in place. Grundy needs to be a sole ruck when looking at SC selection.

Rubbing out Flanders because of one practice game might be questionable as others have said.

But on the other hand switching him to Miller for only 50k more seems like a pretty easy decision. I know Flanders could be a keeper for under 500k, but for just 50k more Miller seems like a better investment given his upside and history.

Flandereses has basically no history. We are all hoping he has a good year based on the second half of 2023, a new coach and the fact the fwd prem cupboard is bare. Certainly not a done deal.

Agreeing with the thoughts on the risks for Grundy. He left my team last night. Has been amazing in the past but there is a trend in his scoring. Early bye is rubbish too.

On Naismith, not sure what the fuss is about. Not as if he is costing 300k and sitting on your bench. If he plays, great, if not, well there is my loop. Nank has injury concerns and I would rather a chance at a playing R3. Livingstone might be in our teams by the end of the season, but we don't really have a f/r prem to swing atm. There are also bucket loads of trades to waste on rookie sidewaysing!

Swans went in to the game with 5 talls. Will this be the case during the season. My questions is would you want two slow rucks in the team every week.?

Its a good thing we get to see one more game from the Swans with points on offer to see how the Longmire sets up the FWD line.

Neither am I. Already had Sexton as well. Have seen a few people mention Flanders for Geeene, or Grundy no longer appeals because of tonight. Names I mentioned are just examples. I know people react, but I also know that the season is long, and what is the point of research and planning if we base our decisions on one practice game.

Purely just voicing my thoughts generally about certain posts.
Good thing even though it is weird is we get another look and free hit of all of them in rd zero which is not a praccy match so can make a decisive decision at the end of the round of who is in, who is out and who looks good, who struggled, what role they have and how they will fit in each individual team structure.

Interested to see Port tonight.

Ken said he’s basically picked close to the best squad and a decent chance Soldo and Sweet may both play.

If Sweet is named round 1 at 150k ish he could be an option at R2 if anyone is contemplating going thin on that line, with Naismith R3.

Jackson Mead 199k Fwd/Mid:

Has had a ripper pre-season. Looked very good in both the intra-club and match sim.

Worth keeping an eye on. However, as a Port supporter having watched him, he really struggles to play anywhere but inside mid. He seems to go well but behind too many.

Think it will be tough for him to string games together with Butters, Rozee, Wines, JHF, Drew as midfielders, and even Bergman, Houston, Boak (probably not this season) running through the midfield at times.

Always gotta contemplate it at least.

One of my best years was when I started the rookie rucks on field (Flynn and Meek) against Gawn and Grundy. Just gotta be ready to pull the trigger, pay up and bail out (fast) if it goes wrong, even a few rounds in.
