Opinion 2024 AFL SuperCoach Planning Thread

Can't believe how many people are chopping and changing based on one game, let alone a practice game. Supercoach isn't won based on the form of one practice game.

I agree, it's great to see trends in play, look for the advantages of seeing Sexton. Jordon, or Roberts score a ton, etc, but people dropping Grundy, Flanders, adding Greene blows my mind.
Flanders role was great which is what you should be looking at in pre-season

It’s easier to do it now than in round 2. Most people in here know what they’re doing and have a plan, I’m sure most like me are running a best 50 squad or more and these games are used to watch individual players, roles and fitness and balance the best 30 from there.

People are just verbalising their movements and observations.

Nice of Mr Dunkley to keep himself off the radar at 5% ownership with a cruisy ton off 70% ToG. Went at 122 before the injury and a slow final 6 weeks last season. THink hes suffering a bit from the "cant pick him as a forward this year" syndrome.

Could be an excellent POD

Can see him being a top 6 mid - Neale had an injury interrupted preseason/ might be the lions main man in the middle

Yeah hoping so. Lots of people hoping LDU stays fit for a season and pushes the 115+ mark. Ill take the bloke whos already been there before for 20k thanks Eddie.

For those that are able to watch the Suns v Giants game later today, can you please watch Connor Budarick's role/ how many kick ins etc - liked what I saw in his first practice game/ tempting at his price.

Thanks in advance (y)
Looked to play more accountable with Uwland out. Was high on my watch list prior to the game, have another look round 0 but got some doubts now.

Its purely a fixture related decision, Dunkley has two byes before a Butters/Brayshaw even has one.

Not making too many changes: I already had Greene and no Grundy/Flanders. :) Sexton is one I'll bring in though, already had Jordon, not sold on Roberts just yet.

Neither am I. Already had Sexton as well. Have seen a few people mention Flanders for Geeene, or Grundy no longer appeals because of tonight. Names I mentioned are just examples. I know people react, but I also know that the season is long, and what is the point of research and planning if we base our decisions on one practice game.

Purely just voicing my thoughts generally about certain posts.

I'm not up to date (only just now focusing on putting a team together), what new brand of footy? I don't see what game plan could negatively affect an elite stoppage midfielder like him.

Hardwick style football. Where the focus is on winning the ball via turnovers/high pressure vs stoppage focus.
I guess people are concerned that Hardwick tries to implement Richmond style football to some degree, which at Richmond was never conducive to individual players scoring particularly high except Dusty's 119 year.

I am not saying this is the case, rather that this is the speculation out there.

People baulked at Taranto as a $503k Richmond forward last year:

Is there anyone else that is a little questionable on Taranto?

Richmond game plan doesn’t really deliver big scoring mids. He didn’t really wow me last year. I kind of feel I need to have him though considering everyone else will and if he does go well I’ll be behind. But I’m not sold yet?
I'm seeing a lot of sides with Hopper and/or Taranto. I know Hopper is cheap and is guaranteed midfield minutes, ditto Taranto with his FWD status.

The Tigers have never been a high scoring side from a SC perspective, seems a risky move to me.
My reply:
I'm more bullish on Taranto. He's a victim of his versatility, playing tall and having good hands and forward craft which was utilised by the Giants. By virtue of sheer weight of numbers of midfield minutes and accumulation at Richmond he should push his numbers up and if he doesn't butcher it he's capable of 110.

What's more likely is that he pushes to 102-105 which is a more than adequate return from a $500k forward. He'll be frustrating to own in weeks where he gets 30 touches for 90 SC.

Nek minnit 106.7

Oh, and as predicted he frustratingly got 28 touches for 90 SC in Rd 9 against the Cats

Haven't followed closely, but 1 kick 4 handballs and 16 hitouts, 3fa isn't conducive to a high score. Definitely not on my list.

I didn't watch ever but what I find most telling is Ladhams 71% TOG and Grundy 60% TOG.

There is media out there that think the swans will opt for 2 rucks.

Lots of Grundy out this morning. If he is a loan ruck round 0 could be just as many back in.
