By R12/13 I can see aggressive teams are going to be finalised with 10 trades remaining still to deal with injuries over the last half of the season. It's hard to see how an extra say 6 trades over that period gives that much of an advantage relative to the points lost earlier by upgrading

Depends on how things play out. Have been very few injuries this year compared to last year and I think that's benefited the heavy traders so far.
Still only round 8.

Where are you ranked?
Does the 13 trades include this round? Noting that's still a fair few trades used!
My past experience is your rank at about R11 ends up being close to your final rank. Since trades increased the days of running over the top of other teams due to excess trades seem to be over.
I have traded 13 times up to this round and will definitely use 2 trades this week and if Sweet has a great score this week will use my 3rd boost as well.
ranked 951 my best start ever.

I have used 2 more than you after this round. I’ve been more aggressive than normal but still have a boost left. I could be “down” to 20 trades and only one genuine rookie left on field. The game has totally changed with the extra trades coming in.
It feels more like a race now. We can’t let too many points leak out from being conservative anymore. You never catch it up
Well done on your rank

Here's my team after trades this week. I am thinking I have 3 rookies on field.
Grundy will go tomorrow. To English if Sweet fails (which is my expectation) or to a Merrett or Ryan type.

I'm waiting to see if Riley Garcia is on field or not before deciding between he and going early on Darcy Jones (Giants). My gut is that JOnes will be the better of the two.
Worth waiting a week on Jones to see his impact with Toby Green back in the team….
not certain Riley Garcia is the play to bring in this week…particularly with Libba back…

I'm probably one of the more conservative traders here with 30 left before this week's boost and I think you're right. Well back in the peleton currently but starting to make up ground now. If there are injuries around the byes, I'll have the trades necessary to sort them out, which might help.
Each season is different of course, but at the end I'll be looking to adjust my strategy for next year to see how I could get more benefit from the extra trades on offer, as it looks like I may have gone too conservative so far this one.
Good news is you can make 2 trades per week right up to round 23 now, others like me will have to abstain from trading for probably 3 or 4 weeks so we don't run out before league finals.

Agree - if he gets in with Libba also playing, I'd be tempted. If he's sub or omitted, will probably chance Jones and keep fingers crossed.

Just a quick check. I'm sure I've read about this but never used it. If I were to trade, for example, Sexton to Sweet before tonight's game but then after the game decided I wanted to trade Dempsey out instead of Sexton, could I trade Sexton back in for Dempsey and it would count as still having only used 1 trade?

Yes, that's the update trade button, you can change the player you traded in or out providing they haven't played yet. Alternatively, just trade Sexton back to Dempsey manually.

Just thinking about the saints, both Steele and Marshall hobbled, playing North this week.
What happens if the saints are well on top middle of the third, (they haven’t shown that recently so most likely not the case) do they rest Steele or Marshall?
Ross rested/subbed Marshall off early in a game last year if I recall.
Probably team dependent on whether they rest/sub Steele or Marshall, some thing to think about?

Yes because he has a guaranteed good run of games as main ruck while Soldo is out and he's already proven he can score so when you can make a bunch of cash like that fast, you almost have to go for it to make up for all the other duds that don't pay off so well...and it just helps you to get another premium or 2 into your side.

I really want to avoid sideways trading Steele, as you just lose ground on the race to finish your team. Therefore, is there any merit in using Steele as a "downgrade" to another premium to unlock cash towards another upgrade?

Steele > Dale unlocks 144K & Steele > Macrae unlocks 115K - are either of these moves worth it to maintain upgrade momentum?

Saints don't strike me as a team that can afford to be doing that. They're sitting 14th with a 2-5 record and a percentage of 89%.

When Marshall was subbed last year they were unbeaten ladder leaders with a percentage of 150% and Moyle was rucking for Gold Coast with Witts being a late out.
