Yeah this is the key thing, if he's bowling 3-4 overs then I think it's worth the risk but if they have too many guys sharing overs he's definitely a questionable pick at that price. There is always the option of flipping someone like Maxwell to him before their second double so can take him on early and adjust. But if he has the plum role then the round 2 double is scary to be fading him!

M Short only took 5 wickets last season (including Finals) , scored 6 half centuries
I am sure @Damion23 (once he gets into BBL mode) would have his SC breakdown for batting , bowling & fielding points from last season
Round 2 looks like they play Stars (H) & Heat (A).
They obviously got Allen for a reason (2 F Allen's nah this won't cause angst at all 😉 , I am already getting Hope (Shai) & Pope (the Ollie one mixed up).
If Overton is cleared to bowl , do they play him + Thornton and one of Bazley/Buckingham plus all 3 of Allen (once available) , Boyce & Pope making M Short the 7th option 🤔
Hopefully we get a indication on Overton in the upcoming WI v England white ball series

Round 3 looks like it is going to be challenging to navigate with 3 teams on the DGR
Hold our Stars from Round 1 but with Duckett unavailable Round 1 (assuming he maintains his place in the Test side for the New Zealand series) will we need to bring him in ?
Bartlett , Hosein , Walter , Neser all over $ 175 k + let alone any other Heat & Sixers.
Those thinking of the Maxwell - > Short - > Maxwell will need a spot for him.
That's possibly 6 trades we need that Round which won't work even with a Boost.
Round 2 we will probably be focusing on bringing in Scorchers and Strikers for their DGR.
Going to be a intriguing puzzle to work out.

I am thinking at passing on him at the price, his overs have dropped each year 44.1, 35.1, 20 (26 inc finals) along with history saying no batsman has gone 4 seasons in a row at 400+runs.
and I could get 2 really good players for his price instead of grabbing him and a cheapie for the same price.

Certainly takes up a massive amount of the salary cap if we start him or wait until Round 2 to bring him in (Maxwell out + held cash could work , can't see how 3 Renegades get him and other AS/PS though)

Matt Short is one of the few I haven't seen the media mention for a Test spot , last count I have 10 on Bailey's short list for 2 spots , may as well throw Short into the mix as well 🤗

Feeling much the same as the bolded at this early point. Feels a lot like us starting English at the beginning of the afl season. Would have to average something obscene to maintain his price.
Given some of the previously elite players that are relatively cheap, there could be an opportunity to hold some cash back for a rd 2 or 4 trade in. I’m feeling a rd4 trade in even though missing 1-2 tons might hurt a little.
Test squad and Australia A team will be pretty important in dictating which value players we can access. Personally hoping someone like McSweeney gets selected in the test squad so it opens up a couple of opportunities (with Brown leaving, Khawaja, Neser and Marnus in tests) within that Heat squad for cheapies.

I think it’s definitely viable leaving Short out round 1.
But unless he bowls 0-1 overs in that first game, not having him for the second game seems like a massive risk. Particularly when considering the most appealing captain that week outside of Short is likely to be Hardie - who will play both games away.
