I think it’s definitely viable leaving Short out round 1.
But unless he bowls 0-1 overs in that first game, not having him for the second game seems like a massive risk. Particularly when considering the most appealing captain that week outside of Short is likely to be Hardie - who will play both games away.

Each round, you'll score from your best 11 players only in any position, from your selected, on-field Starting 12 (including your Flex player selection). You'll still need to ensure that your best available players are in your starting 12 line-up.
Select up to 3 Emergencies for each of the three (WKP, BAT, BWL) positions. Emergencies will continue to replace non-starting players in your Starting line-up, in the same position (including any 'bye' player that you may have left in your starting line-up) and their score will only count if it is in your Best 11. Note that there is NO emergency cover for your selected Flex player.
Set a Captain (and Vice Captain) as you normally would for double points (your Flex player can also be named Captain/Vice Captain). If your Captain's doubled score is NOT in your Best 11 scores, then their points will not count - you simply get your Best 11 scores only. Similarly, if your Captain's doubled-score is NOT in your Best 11 scores, you do NOT automatically receive double points from your Vice Captain - your Vice Captain only receives double points if your Captain does not play for any reason.

Do you know what the funny thing is about this new feature is... it was leaked 6 days ago (on codesports) and no one picked up on it ha ha (I may have shared it with a selected few)
I will be interested to see how the live scoring works with the flex player in game day. Effectively the same logic as the bye rounds in AFL but drop 1 score rather than 4. Hopefully they have fixed that logic otherwise mass confusion incoming.
Ollie Pope $ 152k hasn't played a white ball international at all nor played in any T20 leagues outside of England , wish they would justify their pricing on new OS players and advise what it is based on instead of just having standard prices.
