Australia (Playing XI): Shane Watson, Chris Rogers, Ed Cowan, Michael Clarke(c), Phillip Hughes, Steven Smith, Brad Haddin(w), Peter Siddle, James Pattinson, Mitchell Starc, Ashton Agar

England (Playing XI): Alastair Cook(c), Joe Root, Jonathan Trott, Kevin Pietersen, Ian Bell, Jonathan Bairstow, Matt Prior(w), Stuart Broad, Graeme Swann, Steven Finn, James Anderson

For those that haven't seen the sides yet.
Sidds on fire, I never should have doubted him before the test.
Good to see the back of Trott, our bowling is still not great though at the moment.
Thanks for teams Goodies. Just getting home now to see last session. Surprised Agar got picked first up.

Wow interesting 'Not Out' Review taking umpire's call for last wicket.

Trott(c) looked pretty impressive and was on target for 100; LOL. Isn't Steve Smith an all rounder; get a bowl mate.

Looks like bowlers dominating first day. From our batting point of view my greatest concern of many concerns is Cowan. I just expect the worst from him and sadly rarely wrong. I wish he would do something to give me more confidence in him. Nothing against the guy himself but his batting reeks of ordinary to me and does not seem to have the mental strength to add to a limited skill set. His running between wickets just horrifies me how he gets to play at such a high level as opener or top of order.

Aussies 3 for 25 as watching now. Poms made 213. Anderson probably bowled ball of his career to get Clarke out early.

Great contest at start of series and fascinating selections by Aussies.

Chance of life time for Steve Smith to show if he can ever produce some goods as unorthodox batter that can bowl a bit.
Like Cowan his technique does not fill you with confidence but he can score runs quickly and has some talent and an eye.
Rarely do these type of players work at Test level but like the Aussie selectors giving him a decent look at.

Well, that was an interesting day's play.

England all out for 215:
- Trott 48
- Bairstow 37
- Root 30

- Siddle 5/50
- Patto 3/69
- Starc 2/54

Australia 4/75:
- Smith 38*
- Rogers 16
- Wato 13

- Anderson 2/25
- Finn 2/27

Yay for making Clarke my C and he ducks up = -40 to me. Brilliant...
Don't have Siddle as I didn't know if he would be selected, still someone had to get the wickets.
It seems both sides are a bit nervy, the second innings should see everyone settle down and play some longer cricket!

How well did Jimmy Anderson bowl in that last session, class act, beautiful swing bowler and the nut that got rid of Clarke was just too good. Time to say goodbye to steady Ed, they should have picked Khawaja or even Warner ahead of him.

How did Agar(?) look fellas? Get much of a ball? Guessing he'll be more effective later on in the test.

Yeah a little inconsistent with his length. Probably got 7 overs and took 0-21 from memory, just dropped short a few times outside the off stump to Bairstow who put him away, but look good when he pitched it up more.

Day 1 Run-down

Day one of the first Ashes Test was crazy. I've never been so excited and nervous to a start of a Test match ever.

England won the toss and elected to bat first, for Australia, that was a good toss to lose, a Peter Siddle 5-fa inspired Australia to bundle England out for 215. England then took four wickets of their own in the last session to get right back into the contest. The match is evenly poised. Stuart Broad's injury will be a concern for the English, he was struck on the shoulder by Pattinson, and did not come onto the field during England's first 21 overs.

The world got to see 19-year-old Ashton Agar for the first time, he looked nervous but not completely out of depth on the biggest stage of them all.

Here is the progressing scorecard:

First Ashes Test - England vs Australia at Trent Bridge, Nottingham.

England won the toss and elected to bat first.

Agar the not so Horrible.

Good to see the lad showing a bit of fight!

Pity a few more higher in the order could not have done the same...

He's actually just broken the all time record for highest score by a number 11 on debut!!!!
It was a record that was 111 years old!!!!

Yeah it has been a great effort.

The way the top order is going he had better watch out or he might find himself coming in at No. 3 in the second dig, lol...

Agar is a gun!!! Well bowled early on in the session by Swan and Anderson, just all class compared to our batsman. Finn bowled terrible tough.
Hughes has done his job and stayed there wish Agar, now pushing on himself and scoring at a decent rate.

In fantasy ESPN I have Agar :) LOL
