Honestly after spending a year watching and listening to him on Fox Footy the conclusion that I came to is that he is actually not that smart.

He may be a good leader of men which helped him be a great Captain and would have helped some aspects of being a coach. However the part of coaching that requires critical and intelligent thinking I feel he is lacking.
I thought that was what Assistant Coaches were for! :p

Yes, hence I think he will turn out to be a dud assistant coach!

PS I noticed they were calling his role as midfield manager as opposed to coach, quite funny changing the normal terminology.

PPS Being an outsider I really would have no idea of how he would perform as an assistant coach. Just basing it off my perceptions gained from his time on the panel and in the war room etc on Fox.

The AFL sends out an email late today, having been busy at school I go through the headlines, notice one "Saint speedster joins Cats".
Thought thats a bit odd, I though Stanley was going to possibly make his was to the Cats. Oh wait, the AFL website email has classed Rhys Stanley as a 'speedster', the guy is near 200cm, I know he's athletic but 'speedster', I'm not sure about that!! Hahaha :)

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure Stanley won the AFL grand final sprint a few years ago! Don't worry, I was surprised too! :)

Yeah, he won it in 2009.
WOW really?!?!
I take it back then haha. Maybe a better, not as misleading headline would have been "Saints big man joins the Cats" or something hahaha :)

Question for anyone who played the SC draft this season - how do the bench players work as in do you have emergencies ?
Below is from the FAQ section:

Remember, the game features a floating bench - players on your bench can be from any position. Remember, your floating bench may be made up of players from any position.

When creating the league: Select whether you'd like one player on your bench to act as an auto-emergency. If you have a starting player who doesn't play for any reason in any round, the lowest scoring player on your bench (with a score above 0) will act as auto-emergency and replace them on your squad. Only one auto-emergency per team is available.
If your league has an Auto-Emergency option activated, you'll receive the score from your lowest-scoring bench player (other than those who score 0) if any of your starting players don't play.
The remaining players on your Floating Bench don't score, unless your league has activated the "Auto Emergency" option - in which case you'll get the lowest scoring emergency's score above 0 to replace any player on your starting line-up who doesn't play (irrespective of position).

after some general advice for my keeper UF league. A note to those not familiar with UF, it's purely a stats game, so the more of the ball a player sees the better.

Generally speaking though, would you give up pick 13 and 27 for geelongs horlan smith and pick 36?

So the question essentially is lol can I draft a better player than HS at pick 13? Enough of a difference to drop 27 to 36?

lol

When you are talking about the draft for your league, are you able to draft exclusively from this years draft class or from the pool of players not yet selected??

In the short term probably not, but long term yes.

Hmm well yeah I'd still go with what said in my last post, short term (2-3 years probably no) long term I'd reckon you might be better off.

Very tough one though to weight up :)

Stats don't help when what you're talking about is the depth of the draft pool available. How many teams/players in each should be the main factors in your assessment here. For example your considerations would be widely different if it's an 8 teams with 14 players vs 12 teams with 26 players each.

Ill put it to you like this lol. If GHS was in this seasons national draft and was available at pick 13 would he be snapped up in a heartbeat?

Considering Brisbane got Christensen for pick 21 and Collingwood got Greenwood for pick 25, probably not.

Rocket a possibility for the Sun Coaching job, thoughts?

I think he would be better than Mark Thompson who has become very flippant which is not a good sign.
He has a very good record without winning the big one. It's a shame when a teams premiership window starts to close that all of a sudden the coach has lost the players. Clarkson was under pressure after 2008 because he had apparently lost the players!!!
More interesting for Supercoachers is how a new coach affects Gazza's scoring. I seem to remember one reason Gazza fell out with Mark Thompson was because Bomber thought he wasn't working hard enough defensively. It was interesting to hear Gazza make such a strong case for Guy Mckenna at the brownlow only for McKenna to be sacked. My conspiracy theory is that the Gold Coast board felt that McKenna wasn't strong enough with his players including Gazza.
