Just getting in early for 2015...

Please can all the SC Draft version of the game talk be kept far away on some distant threads so as not to confuse the talk relevant to the main Supercoach competition.
This is not directed to Maso or anyone who above posted a question/answer regarding the draft version, but rather to moderators Jay and/or Rowsus. In the lead up to 2014, posts on the two different versions of the game on some threads were sometimes an entangled mess and I just don't want to see that happen again for 2015.

Besides that, am looking forward to the draft Nov 27th.
Preseason games Feb 26th.
Season April 2nd.

So thankfully it looks like Sunday night football is gone and hopefully Monday night footy is gone too.

I've been quite happy with the usual Saturday schedule in recent years of two day games, two night games and twilight game in middle. Friday night footy been big success for a long time. That to me is the time slots that clearly work.
As a Carlton fan we probably had the worst schedule of any club. Sunday night games, Monday night games, Thursday night games and the rest sprinkled more to my liking of a few Friday night games, Saturday twilight game and Saturday or Sunday games. No consistent time slot though. Been a nightmare as a fan. What I did find I quite liked was the Saturday Twilight game. It is quite handy as allows you to do normal stuff Saturday, then goto a game and then go out later on if you wish or home for the night.
I do have a question though. Is there any strong reason not to have 2 Friday night games? We have 2 Saturday night games and it always seems to work. Maybe we can have a few Friday night double headers also.
Example... A game started 7-10 pm Friday night in Melbourne and then directly after another game at 9-45 pm from Perth!!! It would be 7-45 pm in Perth so ideal for Perth people. Maybe not every Friday but every 2nd or 3rd Friday a game in Perth on a Friday night after an earlier Friday night game on the East Coast in either Sydney, Melbourne or Queensland. So basically Foxtel get a game Friday night from Perth and steal those games from some of the Sunday games that gone on in Perth that finish off the AFL round.
I think maybe twilight games on Sunday on East Coast should maybe only be when the Monday is a public holiday.
The 3-20 pm Sunday game to me I don't mind. Works for channel 7 too , I believe, so no real change there. Just think maybe we experiment stealing a game off Sunday to play 2 games on Friday nights. Saturday nights there is two games on regularly at same time so do not see why not try it out, or at the least experiment with my idea of two games after each other. One on East Coast and one in Perth. I'm sure it could work and clubs would be happier overall to avoid Sunday schedules.

Friday night double-header 'too complicated'
Ben Guthrie October 30, 2014 1:38 PM

THE AFL considered a double-header on the Friday night of the Mother's Day weekend in round six, but the scheduling ultimately proved too difficult to execute the plan.

Collingwood and Geelong will face off at the MCG in a standalone clash on May 8, with six games scheduled for Saturday and two games – Carlton and the Brisbane Lions at Etihad Stadium, and Port Adelaide and West Coast at Adelaide Oval – on the Mother's Day Sunday.

But CEO Gillon McLachlan revealed he was pushing hard for back-to-back Friday night matches, likely featuring Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval and immediately followed by a game at Patersons Stadium in Perth.

That would have then allowed the AFL to schedule a marquee one-out blockbuster on Mother's Day in keeping with the fixture's configuration.

"It just got too complicated with the broadcasting, ultimately to get that away," McLachlan said at the fixture launch at AFL House on Thursday.

"We had the dialogue. I know Port Adelaide has been keen to have a Friday twilight game at Adelaide Oval and then you'd play a game out of Perth after that.

"I like the thought of that and then having one big standalone game on Mother's Day but we weren't able to pull it off."

The League's contract with broadcasters Channel Seven and Fox Footy in this instance was tough to amend, however McLachlan says he is supportive of potential Friday night double-headers in the future.

"We knew we couldn't get too much further other than thinking it was a good idea after we found out we couldn't get it done because of our contracts," McLachlan said.

"We had a really good look at it but we couldn't get it done."

Well, well!
Least it is on their mind.
Glad to hear.
It is a different slant to my idea because they were thinking a twilight game followed by a night game in Perth.
Seeing as Perth is two hours behind the Eastern states I honestly think my idea of timing of it is better. Two genuine Friday night games. A 7-10 pm Friday night game in Melbourne or Sydney for example followed by a 9-50 game on tv (probably Foxtel) from Perth which is really only 7-50 pm Perth time so not too late there. It does however mean the previous weekend all those teams involved cannot have played Sunday to allow for at least six day break.
Certainly tricky to fixture but I'm sure they could program it five or six times a season and reduce a few Sunday twilight games as a result.

And now I'm the bearer of bad news..

"That's the sort of message I will be talking to Gary about. With that, he might have to play, I suppose, a different role at times. I think he will be our main midfielder but, at the same time, I don't know what the percentages are, say it's 85, 90 per cent he plays in the midfield at the moment. If he can get down to 60 or 70, and can then share that load and be able to go forward - that will just be a conversation with Gary and we'll have a talk along the way." - Rodney Eade

The "will Ablett spend more time in the forward line next year" discussions are formally open

Doesn't have to be bad. He will score goals lol. Would have been good if he done that last season and gained a F.

AFL fantasy introduced positional changes in season last season. Dal Santo, Kelly gained DEF etc. Do you think SC will follow?

I know these discussions happen every year but I think the reliance on Ablett is the reason McKenna got the chop and why Gold Coast wanted an experienced coach to bring him into line. Ablett will still be a star but his time on ground has been way higher than all the other midfielders. I was hoping Gold Coast would have a tough start to the year to make my decision easier but they have a good start to the year! They have 3 tough games before the bye and then a good run for the second half of the year. At this point I'm starting without him and bringing him in after his bye. The byes last year were perfect for trading but they are really awkward this year. I'm thinking of upgrading before the byes and then trading my second tier midfielders (keeping my captains) during the byes to keep guns off the bench. It will mean I'll have to do less trading with my forwards and defenders so I'll probably look at a few midpricers who I hope will be keepers or close to keepers.

There were reports about a week ago that he suffered from "frozen shoulder" after his operation. I saw him a couple of weeks back and he was keeping his shoulder very still, so i dont beleive he's shoulder is feeling all that great and that his tweet is just to keep the fans happy. Will stick my neck out now and say that he wont play till round round 3 at least.

Hello all,

I am a relatively new poster but a frequent reader. I was wondering if an analysis of the 2014 Winner C-Money will be done at any stage. I have been looking for information about C-money's round 1 team but haven't found any as yet.

Love your work on the site, I will try to contribute more in future.

Cheers
