OK JLT STARTS TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NOTE TO SELF (and others...;))

All that pre season research is not for nothing. If a player comes from the clouds that I don't have on my shortlist I will have to be convinced tenfold as to why they would come into my team.

Unfortunately with the number of people that set their sides up in the last week and yet do really well sadly I do think a lot of the pre season research is for nothing. It’s all made available by the myriad of online advice sources.

Satuaration is so good, that there is information overload and becomes noise!

What will happen is someone will stand out in JLT and become the super hype player. Once the season is several games in and lockdown roles start to kick in, we will see who has the sustainability in output.

A record nine players earned more than $1 million in 2017 as the rich got richer under the new collective bargaining agreement.

Lance Franklin is understood to have been one of the competition's highest-paid players last season, with Tom Boyd, Scott Pendlebury, Nathan Fyfe and then Gold Coast teammates Gary Ablett and Tom Lynch widely believed within industry circles to have also earned seven-figure salaries.

It is likely some of 2017's millionaires are on contracts wherein their average yearly salary is less than $1 million, but their deals were front- or back-ended last season to top seven figures. Sources identified Dayne Beams and Michael Hurley as players in this category.

Richmond captain Trent Cotchin and teammate Dion Prestia would also have been among the AFL's top earners in 2017.

Nick Bowen and Callum Twomey for AFL.com.au

Gee, some clubs are getting much better value than others here!

A BIG shout out to Bomber18 for his awesome work during the month of Feb. I'm sure that there are many others who've helped to keep SCS churning over as we get closer to the start of the 2018 season. However, Bomber18 aka Sho, has pumped out a phenomenal 355 posts during the month of Feb...that's almost 13 posts per day!

I'm sure that I speak on behalf of all who frequent this site that his posts have always been of a detailed, helpful and insightful nature which makes it all the more amazing!

We thank you for your immense contribution thus far and I look forward to reading more and more of your posts in days, weeks & months to come...:)

Wow! Thanks Thanh!

Although I'm not sure I want to keep track of these stats and hours spent on SC :p

FWIW I've finally finished uni and will be starting full time work from next week so posts will probably be concentrated more to certain hours of the day from now on rather than every hour :p

Love your JLT stats too btw. Please sticky them (although the bookmark is good too).

Ok so I am not much of a betting man and not really sure how markets are formed but I was looking through Crownbet the other day and came across the ‘Most Tackles’ market. There were 37 players listed ranging in odds from about $3.50 to $81. I looked through the list of players and noticed Jack Redden wasn’t on there. With his possible change of role into his more suited inside mid position, and being top 5 in tackles 4 years in a row from 2011-2014 I thought I would request he be added to the market, hoping to get odds in excess of the $81 that were on offer for other players listed. They accepted my request and added him - $15!! 7th favourite in the market. Does this seem fair to those that know anything about betting?

I know very little about betting but adding someone to a list of 37 players and then adding him in the top 20% is wrong but still a good bet at that

It's not an unusual situation. These "novelty" markets don't hold a lot bets as a general rule of thumb. They are usually set to poisonous percentages, but sometimes you can winkle out a value pick or two. Because they don't expect it to generate probably even $10,000 in bets, they don't research it as deeply as they otherwise might (which is another reason the percentages are terrible, they don't want to get caught out). This leads to omissions, and when you inquire about an omitted player, THEN they will actually do some deeper research, as the inquiry generally means there is genuine interest in this option.
It's certainly wouldn't be a case of them not having Redden in the initial market, because they rated him no chance. Having inquired about Redden they did their due diligence, and came up with something which is probably in line with the others at the top of the market.
Their initial work probably just involved looking at the top 2 or 3 tacklers at each team the past 2 seasons, and setting the market to around 200%.
