Is anyone else a little lost already? I didn't have any trades let for around the last 5 rds, so my team was basically frozen, but now with absolutely nothing I don't know how to fill in my days at work (apart from being on this site).

Jay, or anyone in particular, are you thinking of doing another planner for the 2014 season?

Probably nothing, but......................................

Franklin removes Hawthorn reference on Twitter bio

By Jacqui Reed5:28pm AEST Monday, September 2, 2013

HE'S PUT off contract negotiations until season's end, but Lance Franklin has made a curious change to his Twitter account.

The superstar forward has removed his ties to Hawthorn in the biography on his account.

What used to read 'proud indigenous professional sportsman representing the Hawthorn Football Club' has been reduced to a simple link that promotes clothing company Nena And Pasadena.

The out-of-contract Hawk has attracted interest from Greater Western Sydney, with reports the expansion club has tabled an offer worth $12 million dollars.

Hawthorn coach Alastair Clarkson admits the club is desperate to retain Franklin, but the team has worked hard to create contingency plans.

"We have worked particularly hard over the course of the last six months to try and spread our load, not just to do with Buddy but through our midfield as well," Clarkson said on Monday.

Franklin last week admitted the Hawks were getting impatient.

"There's been a little bit of pressure and expectation from the football club, in terms of signing," Franklin said.

"But for me, I've always had that mindset of wanting to do it at the end of the season."

With Jeremey Howe having just been nominated for another mark of the year, I was wondering what the record for most nominations over a career is, and how many he now has, if anyone knows?

Interesting on Buddy.

My gut feeling is that he is going, no matter what happens in the finals for Hawthorn.

I think I've worked out why the AFL won't admit that tanking exists.....

When you think about it, isn't what Fremantle did on Saturday just another form of tanking?
Turn up with half a team, over-rotate through the bench players that usually have a higher TOG, and worst of all, get the players to play like they have bones made of fine crystal.
How is a team turning up with half a team, and avoiding unnecessary physical contact not tanking? Surely if Melbourne brought the game into disrepute by discussing tanking, which is effectively what they were charged with, what Fremantle did on Saturday is every bit as bad!

Too right. I think it is worse than the Melbourne scenario, because as we all know, they only 'talked' about tanking :) Freo v StK was One of very few games I've watched where I've actually questioned why I'm still watching. If it wasn't for the sentiment sowed by st kilda it would have been more boring than a game of soccer! Unfortunately punishing clubs for playing poorly is a dangerous precedent.

I think it goes beyond playing poorly, I think it is deliberately under-performing. Fremantle recorded 48 tackles on Saturday, around 1 for every 11 St Kilda possessions. Their average is pretty consistently around 60 odd tackles, and around 1 for every 6 or 7 opposition possessions. It's not even bruise free football, it's "here, you have the ball, we don't want it back" football!

The whole Freo situation kind of escaped me during most of weekend as was more focussed on my own club and the FDL Grand Final, Pretty damn exciting finish to Carlton game to come from 39 points down and make finals in weird circumstances. I even got excited Malthouse eased up on some of his tactics that don't work once we were so far down, but getting back to Freo now I am flabbergasted. Here they were in a situation of possibly getting 2nd spot and the coaching staff virtually concede that spot and settle for finishing 3rd. If I was a Freo supporter I would be as ****ed off with Ross Lyon as I have been with Malthouse most of this season. Friggin hell, Brisbane to be brutally honest should have won that game v Geelong in the end. Chapman holding the ball, Mackie deliberate out of bounds all missed in dying moments as free kicks Lions really should have got a free kick and within 15 metres of goals if either had correctly been paid against Chapman or Mackie. Then Lester did not elevate his snap kick enough even after those moments of crap umpiring. Given Lions should have won it basically would have meant Freo beat St.Kilda, end up 2nd on ladder and massive home state advantage in 1st final and at least another final after that. I don't know about you other footy followers but if your team finishes top 2 and gets home state advantage for most of your finals , your club is a MASSIVE chance to win the premiership. It is pure luck that Lions did not win so Ross Lyon is one very lucky man that the egg on face of resting half of his best team has not ended up been as costly as it should have been. He needs to take a long hard look in the mirror about that whole situation and realize what he did was bloody ridiculous and never try that stunt again.

By the way, I heard Demtriou say tonight that the league will look into their rules and regulations as it is not a good look for the game to rest half a team. I'm sure they will bring something into play for future seasons but hard to regulate on I'd suggest.

What really gets me is Freo have the audacity to bag the whole notion of Geelong playing them in final at Kardinia Park against them.
I personally don't like this change myself but the logic of Freo's whinge about it deserves thrown out the door. As Demetriou said Geelong getting a final at Kardinia Park against Freo is just as fair as Freo getting home final at Subiaco v Geelong. Freo have no grounds to whinge given they had their chance to get a home final and showed contempt for the final round by resting half of the best team. I personally think the final should not be down there but now that it is down there, good luck to Geelong and suck it up Freo and earn your way through to the Grand Final via a tougher path now.

Man, would have loved Carlton getting home finals v interstate based club at Princes Park if we finished top 2 but unfortunately a certain president stuffed our club up and virtually had to give up our true home ground because of the mess our club was in a decade ago.

I remember we finished on top in 1995 by 4 games over 2nd team but we still never got a true home ground final reward. We got home state final v Brisbane at MCG. I remember being at it and Brisbane gave us a run for our money. We then played our Preliminary Final v North at MCG. Clubs like Freo don't know how good they get it when they finish top 2. They not only earn home state final but a massive home ground advantage too for usually 2 of the finals and usually have a nice path to Grand Final if they make the most of their fortunate situation.

What Rossy Lyon did to give up that opportunity is just ridiculous.

^To be fair though, there were live score updates on the St Kilda v Freo game at the ground so the Cats players knew they didn't have anything to play for, and played like it. Though we were still bloody lucky to win.

Anyone know where we can find list of rolling averages or highest averages for certain times of the year? I have had a look on tooserious but you have to actually go into each player to find it.

I remember hearing that Jack averaged 135 for a 5 week period in 2012 so that was my main reason for selecting him from the get go, and wouldn't mind hunting down a few players like that for next year

Must say excited in general for Melbourne. Really hope they get Paul Roos as coach. Think he is best candidate for any club looking for new coach. Got his head screwed on right and knows AFL footy culture back to front and what makes clubs and teams successful. Will be a massive lift to that club that needs something big to turn them around. This could be the start.

Well done to Jackson if he gets his man.

Wonder if watts will stay if they land roos.
I can se roos changing the list quite a bit which will be good for rookie opportunty, viney and watts could be big improvers next year.

If I was Roos/the new coach of Melb, I would be trading Watts for as much as I could get. Sadly, I don't think there is a future at Melb for him, just too much baggage to deal with - both him and Melb need a new start.

Yep surely they need to start moving on some of their tall timber. They cannot play Mitch Clark, Hogan, Dawes, Watts, Howe and Fitzpatrick in the same forward line. Watts and Howe for one need either new roles or new homes imo.
