I agree with this.

@Harmonic Nine, do you have a view on Wilkie as a pick, potentially vs Hore?

Maybe @Ben's Beasts or @Ricky Bobby also?
Apologies for the delay in response mate and I’m sure you’ve made a decision one way or another by now. I don’t have him myself. I think he has the potential to score reasonably well however I feel like if he puts in a stinker or two he is always going to be on the chopping block. I went with Hore instead so time will tell :)

No need to apologize mate, your response makes me feel a bit better in any case ... I went with Hore ? Will monitor Wilkie, but it felt like a bit of a punt on role in the absence of confirmation from the coach or the like ... we should get a good idea today.

Essendon
Fyfe + Wilkie/Joyce
vs
Merrett + Collins
Merrett looked as rubbish as anyone on Sunday. Completely unlike him. I'd back him to turn it around but with the way Essendon played in general, I'd avoid him for now.

Collins will be a good rookie, but Fyfe is the way to go, probably with Wilkie.

Edit: sorry. Didn't notice that this was an old post. Hope you went with Fyfe and Wilke.

LDU - rd1: 80. Avg 80 till bye round makes $185K
Cousins - rd1: 72. Avg 72 till bye round makes $130K
Butters - rd1: 67. Avg 67 till bye round makes $155K

Butters to keep his spot and have the more realistic chance of maintaining that scoring
I thought LDU's 80 in a thumping in Perth was a good effort, but Butters seems the obvious pick. Would like to wait a week but might have to pull the trigger this week on one of the two.

I have decided to be aggressive and trade out JRoo due to him just becoming a new father, he looked really flat against the Blues.
Will consider picking him up around the byes with a better 2nd half draw and hopefully more sleep.

My options to trade to are, Rockliff, Sheed, Zorko. All three have a few possible negatives I can see.

Rockliff, injury risk + Wines coming back (unknown affect)
Sheed, His great scoring run leading back into last years finals series has all been minus Andrew Gaff.
Zorko, is 100-120k more than option 1 or 2, has a better individual run with teams who don't play a hard tag after the bye.

After Zorko beat the Hutchins tag and with Brisbane on the rise Zorks is now fully in my sights, either now or post bye.
With more tagging match ups to come earlier on it could keep his scores in check and thus make him still affordable later on, on the flip side if he starts posting 90-100 scores while being tagged he could be in for a record year personally.

Any arguments for or against any/all of these, bearing in mind 520k is my limit and I don't want Sloane. If I had 560k id consider the Bont too.

Cheers.

Worth flagging that not everyone plays worse when they have a child ... I can’t speak from experience, but I gather some dads are a lot more involved than others, some children are just a lot easier than others, and sometimes dads are even quarantined in another room (I’ve heard of a few sportspeople doing this), so some of them sleep quite well. I think one of Pendles or Goldy played better after having their first.

That aside, if you do go ahead with a move, Zorko would be my starting point because he’s an actual premium, whereas Sheed is speculative and Rocky is potentially an ex premium (TBC!). If you can figure out why Zorko scored poorly in the last three rounds I’d say that probably gives you your answer ... if he was concussed, ill etc then you can potentially set those aside, in which case he likely averaged close to 110 post bye, once he figured out how to deal with a tag. If he was suffering with tags again, that makes it hard to see him returning premium output.

He’s super durable, now the captain, and apparently came back in his fittest ever state in an attempt to beat the tags. He also has a good ceiling. I’m not sure what happened late last year, but if it’s legitimate to set that aside I think he could be quite a good pick. If not, it gets harder, given that a lot of what you say makes him sound like an upgrade target.

Merrett is probably underdone and lacking match fitness from an interrupted preseason. I think he could be a good chance to be at his best just before the byes, which would be great for us Supercoaches as a trade in option.

Agree but not touching him pre-byes ... would rather they just give him a few weeks off to build fitness ..

I was tossing this up earlier as well. I haven't decided but am erring on Duursma ... Wilkie's scoring was horrible in JLT (from low TOG, which is potentially a bit of a JS concern) although I think the view was that he might get Roberron's role which could be SC friendly ... his R1 score wasn't overwhelming though.

I'm leaning towards Duursma but have the luxury of waiting until next week when we have more info on scoring and selections.

Daniel, Had him preseason, changed to Dunkley and it bothers me
What's your view on Dunkley mate? Seemed to be getting a decent number of CBAs but looked a bit off it yesterday.

Kudos to your boys for their efforts yesterday too, that was as good a quarter of footy as we've seen in recent memory.
