Hi Rowsus!

Made two trades last week to bring in Buddy and Simpson by getting rid on Tarrant and Lumumba. I regretted the Lumumba to Simpson trade during the weekend because I thought Lumumba would lift, and I thought I might not be able to do the Miller to Jelwood move because of lack of funds. Turns out that after Jelwoods bad game, I can afford the upgrade.

Do you think Jelwood is good value? I just think that even his bad games are about 80, and that is much better than Miller, for only 120k extra. Do you think making this switch is a smart move?

Would you think having 17 trades left at this point of the season is not enough?

Rowsus: those predictions with Maso are disturbingly accurate!!

If you have a couple of minutes to spare I'd like you to cast your eyes over my team and pick holes in it for me. In particular some thoughts on which lines I should focus on over coming weeks, and perhaps which of the peaking/peaked rookies to cull first.

Context: 15 trades left and $410K in the bank

Here's how I see my priorities at the moment:

- Rookies are needing to be culled at the same time - Krak, Miller, Oxley etc, despite having already disposed of Cripps, vd berg and Salem. Injury cloud over Saad a worry, as is Sinclair's inability to make BE.
- Injuries, first to Zac Smith, and now Ryder, have left my rucks in a mess - R2 needs resolving at some stage - one of Goldy, Jacobs or Blicavs.
- Only just traded Rocky in, with limited trades left will have to hold him. I've also resolved to hold Heeney and Hogan for the time being. Held Wines all the way through his injury.

Thanks a lot Rowsus.

^^^I'm no Rowsus but FWIW I would go upgrades:

Combination of these:
Krak to prem forward or McGovern (link with Goddard in defence)
Ryder to prem ruck (Goldy perhaps)
Rock out for maybe Beams or premium mid
Saad to Yeo

Having said that you don't have Fyfe or Gray, might have to pay overs to get them in your team. And there's no mid/forward link in your mids, both Krak and Swan in your forward line, but you can correct that via trading.

Rowsus will probably have some better options.

Good luck

Looking at byes

Coming into round 12 Saad, Oxley, McKenzie, Sinclair, Heeney could go.
Coming into round 13 Krak, Hogan, Ryder, Dumont could go.

Hey Row;

Once again I call upon your expertise to ask you your opinion on Dayne Zorko.

As we know, he's capable of some monster scores, as well as some putrid ones. At around $400k and a breakeven of 92, he's becoming an attractive prospect; I'm not sure if I want to bring him in this week; but I'm certainly keeping an eye on him. What are your thoughts on him as a permanent upgrade?

Rowsus, Its always hard to let go of players that have performed well but no risk, no reward.

I am considering moving on both Jack Steven and J Riewoldt over the next few weeks and am interested in your thoughts on this?

I have not fully settled on what the trades will be but most likely

After Round 11 Out J Steven in D Beams

and

JROO for NROO but not certain of the timing
Mudflap,
it can be a beautiful thing, when it works out properly. But boy it's ugly if/when it backfires! Trades and points lost!
Steven to Beams in Rnd 12. - Looks perfect to me. Stevens is only averaging 103 without his monster, and you don't want to rely on scores like that to maintain a good enough average. Should be very close to his season peak price when you make the swap.
JRoo to NRoo in Rnd ?? - This one I don't like. NRoo's leg's get a bit weary, the more games he plays. Then add in this little analysis:
2013 - Wins 4 / SC ave 145 - Losses 18 / SC ave 80
2014 - Wins 3 / SC ave 101 - Losses 1 / SC score 89 - does not include Rnd 7 concussion game.
It looks like he needs to play in too many winning games to score well enough. He looks good value on a points/dollar basis, but I'm not sure he will be the 95+/game player you might need him to be from here.

Hi Row,
My team, my ranking and my leagues records are all worse than appalling (can't think of a descriptive word worse than appalling, if I could I would use it).
I have very few round 12 premiums ie Pendles, no Saints or Swans prems, is there any merit to go for the round 12 weekly prize now. I'll have 3 weeks of trading to set it up as best I can.

Like to know your thought on this or if you have tried it before?

Thanks bud
Hi Juzzo,
I've never tried it, and I suggest you might be wasting your time trying to do it now. There are Coaches every season that come in with the idea of targetting a bye round prize. Those Coaches will have been building their teams from the very start with that one aim in mind. Their teams will be more set up to do it than yours can be from here. If someone was targetting that strategy this season, the Round 12 bye was the best one to target, but rest assured, each of the 3 bye Rounds will have many Coaches that built their teams from Rnd 1 just to win that Round!

Hi Rowsus

You brought in Wallis last week as a stepping stone, very good move. I'm wondering if the boat has been missed on him as a stepping stone priced at 380k? A downgrade from Cripps would net around 55k. Still not convinced by any of the rookies on offer at the moment so looking for an alternative solution.

Cheers
MrM
Hi MrM,
it all comes down to your opinion on what Wallis can/will average in the next 4 to 6 weeks.
If he averages 90 from here his price peaks after Rnd 12 at around $468k (+$89k)
If he averages 95 from here his price peaks after Rnd 12 at around $474k (+$95k)
If he averages 100 from here his price is close to its peak after Rnd 14 at around $490k (+$110)
If he averages 105 from here, you should nearly just keep him.
Compare all that to say a $125k Rookie, who needs to average around 60 to make you more dollars in 4 price raises. You also get the bonus of using the "spare" $250k for improvements elsewhere.
Yes, it's hard to find that Rookie right now, but if Wallis is coming in for both points and cash, as he was for my team last week, then the boat might have sailed, unless you have absolutely 0 confidence in any of the Rookies.
I'm hoping to use him, to finally get Fyfe into my team. Wallis should let me do it with a one up, one down trade, where as I'd have to use 3 trades otherwise.

Hi Rowsus,

Thoughts on keeping Clark and Tarrant until their bye in round 13??
Numbers on the field strategy??

Cheers, Goodie
It comes down the greater need.
If you need their useful Rnd 13 bye numbers to avoid a donut, then keep them.
If you can't afford to lose the dollars they will leak between now and then, trade them.
Obviously, if you need the Rnd 13 bye numbers, try trading one or both to Rnd 13 players.

I'm have no confidence in trades this week, any ideas for me? My team is linked.

I have 178k in the kitty.

1. Cripps > Wallis (B/E of -42 and 153 to cycle through) and hope he can string together some more good scores. Somewhat of a cash grab and hope to make 100k+ and upgrade him at some point. Could this be an ok strategy or am i kidding myself?

Alternatively, i could go Cripps > Dumont

2. Tarrant/Clark > Franklin. I am uneasy about Buddy because he will miss games at some point and give me another headache to deal with. Is there anyone else i should look at getting?

Thanks.
It does look like your Fwd line is about to start bleeding cash, Krak, Lonie, Tarrant, Clark.
I think you have reasonable expectations on Wallis, and he should make the $100k quickly, but you also have to factor in the dollars lost in your Fwd line.
Doing both seems like an ok idea, as long as you are happy with a quick $100-110k from Wallis. Clark looks like being out, for how long though? If you can carry him without donuting in the byes, use Tarrant before he drops dollars. If you can't carry Clark, use him instead.

Hi Rowsus,

What are your thoughts on Heath Shaw for a final backline upgrade? Overpriced, and still likely to miss games, but it's starting to look like he'll be the clear top averaging backman come season's end. Can I afford to pass on him, or will it be bad for my soul to constantly hope he gets injured?

Currently have Simpson, Smith, Hibberd, Yeo and Newnes.

Muchos thanks.

EDIT: Hodge will probably contend for top average but he's surely even more likely to miss games/be managed later on in the season...
Hi Stephen,
congratulations on your good weekly/overall ranking, and giving me a good poodling in League in Rnd 8, despite me getting my seasons best score!

I agree with everything you say there. Both overpriced, but likely to be in the top few averages for Defs, but both will miss games, probably.
You're in a position, where I wouldn't be too worried about missed games late in the season, I'd be building as many points as I could into my team, as soon as I could, getting it finished, then building the best cover possible for the highest risk areas.
While your bye structure is ok, I would think Shaw fits your bye needs better than Hodge.
Your next Mid and Fwd upgrades will be interesting, I'd be thinking Sidebottom and Goddard, but it will be interesting to see who you finish with.
Good luck, I hope you keep climbing that Rankings ladder!

Rowsus,

I've been planning on bringing in R Gray for numerous weeks, I've just been waiting for 1 bad score.

However he doesn't appear likely to drop a bad score at the moment even with Port loosing games.

In your opinion should I wait and see or just bite the bullet an bring him in?

Regards,

CC

Thank you - very helpful. I will just bite the bullet and get Shaw, I think.

Yes, Sidebottom and Goddard are both in my sights, alongside Dahlhaus, Deledio, Bennell and Sloane. Decisions...

Currently have Dangerfield and Franklin who I would consider sidewaysing if they pump out some more big scores and get to a silly price.

And good luck to you too!

Hey mate how you going?
With rocky out i think i will keep him and keep cripps to play because u can expect most likely 90+ most weeks.
am thinking maybe Miller - Dumont/Robinson/Boston or glenn if he's picked and maybe Tarrant - a prem under 541k maybe Buddy or Smith for a POD. Will prob depend on byes
This will mean i keep Krak and Clark but Krak's DPP will be really handy during the byes
What do you think?
I could bring in Wines but there is no FWD rookies. But feel the option above is better

Hi row

Last week I asked your opinion regarding the best midfielder to buy out of beams hannes and Lewis. I believe beams was your preference. I'm considering danger not bc of his last week score but due to his sc consistency. If you were to pick out of beams and danger who would you choose and is the best option for the remainder of the season. What do you think danger will avg for the remainder of the season? I have Brought in Rocky last week and i was planning on not trading this week. However if he misses 4-6 weeks I need to another midfielder so that I don't have to use miller. In your opinion is it worth trading in beams or danger for one week or is it best to wait? My initial thoughts is to wait however danger is at an ok price.

Also I wanted to say a big thank you for convincing me not to trade newes. Thanks for all your help
