Hey Rowsus,

Just wondering what your thoughts are still on Gawn.
I understand u brought in Gawn last week and looking at it I should have done it aswell.
Is it too late? Being low on trades I am just trying to have cover across all lines where possible to try and avoid donuts. I cannot really afford to upgrade a Cripps, Saad or Oxley at the moment whilst still having Hogan, Tarrant and McIntosh.
The plan is to complete the following trades this week to achieve cover:
McIntosh, Tarrant and Hogan
To
Lambert (?), Dahlhaus, Gawn (Saad to D6 via McKenzie)
Would leave Saad at D6, Cripps at M8 and Gawn at F6
Would have cover using Steele or Lambert for mid/fwd, McKenzie for mid/def and Gawn fwd/ruck via McLaren
7 trades left
Risky with McKenzie, Steele, Lambert mid bench, Lonie/H. Goddard fwd bench and Hamling/ Lever def bench
Any thoughts ? Just trying to cover all bases as best I can after shocking year.

Hi Rowsus,

I reckon Sloaney can average as much as Dangerfield from here out (or within 5 ppg anyway). So I'm thinking a straight swap this week looks the go as Danger IMO has topped out and Rory is mintly priced. Frees up 150k.

Leaves me with 258k and the only line really needing strengthening is the backline with: Houli, Gibson, Simpson, McGovern, Saad, B Smith

I'll have 7 trades left with Lever (234k) left to cull.

My plan is to cull him in a week or two after a couple more games of footy, fingers crossed, then use a couple of trades over the next handful of weeks to "top up" the backs. Hopefully B Smith has risen enough in price (to be nearly 400k) to upgrade he & Saad or McGovern.

Thoughts?

Hi Rowsus, regarding DPP coverage from the bench: Is it preferable to have back-up Ruck/Fwd sitting on the bench (e.g. a Mckernan type) or a back-up Fwd/Mid (e.g. Bont). Whilst I might think that the option with Bont covers more positions, there are also more alternatives to cover an out in those positions (with DPP def/mids in the mix too). However, I'd say the Fwd/Mid option likely brings more points.

Por que no los dos, etc. etc.

Thanks!

Just wondering about your thoughts on Jobe Watson, and whether he's worth bringing in.

Hi Rowsus.

I'm looking towards next week and thinking of trading out Grundy. Witts being in the side seems to affect his scoring, and he was never a permanent option anyway. So after trades this week I will have enough to get Blicavs (just affordable), NicNat or Jacobs. I would love Blicavs but is he over priced now? Jacobs is quite good value and would leave me a bit of change.

Cheers!

Hey Rowsus,

Just wanted your insight on B Goddard v D Swan as to who would be the better pick and also how they would finish off the year?
I need to pick 1 of them to finish off my FWD line which consist of;
Gray, Martin, Dahlhaus, Bennell, Tmitchell, FWD PREM, (Krak, H Goddard)

Thank you in advance and if theres any other scers out there willing to share there insights.

Hi Rowsus,

Just wondering the rough increase/decrease in price of Brodie Smith for a couple of scores this week, maybe 40, 80, 120

Cheers, Goodie

Hi Rowsus, what do you think of Brodie Smith?
We all know he is cheap for a reason but is there a strong reasoning for bringing him in as a D6/D7 player?
His price is very cheap for his potential output.
Thanks mate!

Hi Row,
I am interested to hear suggestions / advice to make over the next 6 weeks.

Current Round 12 Team. $233,000 in the bank

Defenders:
1. McDonald 2. Simpson 3. Thurlow (D/M) 4. B.Smith 5. Oxley 6. * McIntosh
Bench = Lever , Maynard (D/M)

Midfield:
1. Fyfe 2. Danderfield 3. Priddis 4. Pendlebury 5. Lewis 6. Parker 7. Selwood (Gee) 8. Saad (D/M)
Bench = McKenzie (D/M), Dumont Kavanagh

Rucks:
Goldstein Jacobs Bench = Read (R/F)

Fowards :
1. Gray (F/M) 2. Mitchell (F/M) 3. Martin (F/M) 4. Swan (F/M) 5. ** Tarrant 6. Dale
Bench : Fantasia Lambert (F/M)

After round 13 completes I will trade Tarrant. Atm I am thinking downgrading to Steele (F/M) that should
add another $150.000 aprrox to my 'slush' fund making that Approx $ 400.000

Lever, Dumont, Kavanagh,Fantasia and Dale are still making me $$ so for now I am happy to sit tight on those. As long as they are getting game time

Maynard is knocking on the door to get a game, but I am more than happy just to use him as a DPP with a Mid DPP
The same applies to Lambert (although out injured atm) it is costing me nothing to use him as a Forward to Mid DPP.

Here is my dilema.

I wait until Lever hits the bubble and upgrade to a Hodge / H.Shaw or ???
I pull the pin on McIntosh now (who I had planned to use as a D7) and trade him out next week.
And then still go with a another Prem in the backline or ......... Saad goes to the backline, taking Lever or McIntosh's place.Steele can go to the Mid bench

Then I bring in a Franklin , Goddard or Higgins or ??? into the forwards
Dumont, Kavanagh, Fantasia and Dale hopefully make enough $$ to afford another Prem, by finals ,perhaps to use as a Premo Mid?

That's plan A atm, anything could, and probably will throw a spanner in the works, but I do have options.
More than happy to listen to a better way to improve the team. So fire away.
Hi SD,
I would rethink the plan to keep McIntosh as a D7. If you are going to hold a 55-60/game player as cover, he wants to have great JS, and I would think McIntosh's might be starting to waiver. Not that I'm suggesting a trade to Brown, but Brown is the perfect example of what I am talking about. He will rarely give a decent score, but he should be there when needed. Depending on your plans, I would keep Saad as cover at D7, as at least he can swing up for Mid cover as well.
As to plans beyond that, there are so many ifs and maybes that depend largely on whether McKenzie/Lever get selected this week. It also depends on who your targetted upgrades are in the Mid and Fwd line, and what your goal is for the season. League, or best over all position.
I will come back to this question after Thursdays selections are known.

Hi Rowsus, to keep Selwood - that is the question? if i move him this week i can get Titch in to finish my forwards (other trades will be Tarrant/Lumumba to S Edwards/ Houli). leaves me 6 trades with Oxley at D6 and Cripps at M8 - ouch! Or, hold him and next week trade Cripps to Gawn at F6, open up Fwd/Ruck link, and eventually upgrade Oxley to Rocky/Gaz, 4 trades for LTI's. Not happy with my trades left but like you fate has played a part. i'd have links everywhere and rookies on the bench covering, incl Krak. please help!

My dilemma relates to Griffen.

Obviously he's got the bye next week, and without trades, I'll be fielding 16.

He's wildly inconsistent, but yesterday's score has got me reconsidering my planned trade out.

The plan is to trade out Krak/Amon/Griffen, but I'd like to upgrade Jake Kelly and McIntosh too.

My team is;

Hibberd, Birchall, Taylor, McGovern, Ibbotson, McIntosh (Kelly, Hamling)
Fyfe, Pendlebury, Priddis, Sloane, Ward, Swallow, Griffen, Selwood (Cripps, CEY, Amon)
Nic Nat, Goldstein (McLaren)
Dusty, Swan, Franklin, Mitchell, Bont, Westhoff (Krak, Finlayson)

11 trades and $1,600 cash left.

I'm thinking Griffen to a mid/fwd DPP (Goddard, Deledio type)
Amon to a rookie priced player
Krak to a cheap forward (would look very carefully at McKernan if he's upgraded)

Would love your thoughts.

Once again, thanks for your amazing efforts on this thread. It is truly amazing.
Hi Lukus,
well done on being top 500 so far, and thanks for the good words.
I'm not sure McKernan is going to be a value pick for you, and I would wait and reassess that one. If he's only going to be a 60/game player, and sit at F7 every week, say except for 2 weeks at R2, I think you'd be better using the money elsewhere.
Using your thoughts as a guide, maybe Krak to McLean, Amon to Kav, Griffen to Goddard.
I'm worried Deledio may still miss more games, and if he does, you really can't justify the dollar difference between him and Goddard.
I'd also keep an eye on Westhoff. I don't think it is coincidence, that his 4 highest scores for the season were when Ryder went missing. He's averaged 78 with Ryder in the team, and 108 with Ryder out. I'm assuming you might potentially look at trading out/upgrading one of Bont/Westhoff down the track, and it might not be an easy choice!

Hi row

Thanks for providing so much advice this year. I am considering trading mcintosh for Edwards or Beasley, Clarke to lids or dollhouse and possibly Selwood to a midfielder.

lids and dollhouse have been scoring quite well. Lids has a higher ceiling but he might be injury prone. Dollhouse has some down games but pretty much gets the job done. His scoring reminds me of a Priddis in some ways. In your opinion who is the better trade in option? Lids has got the higher and consistent scoring but Bulldogs draw looks very tempting. The other question I have who is the best trade in option for selwood. I have pendles Fyfe jpk Priddis rocky beams and Cripps. do u think Sloane is the better option? is it best to use Cripps as a M9 and loop Hole Selwood or is it best to upgrade all the positions and then consider "luxury trades." I currently have 15 trades without performing the above trades. Thanks heaps for all your help.
Hi Ad,
always happy to help, and I hope there has been more good, than bad in there! :)
I agree with your Lids/Dahl comparison, and would for the reasons you explained, go to Dahl.
In regards to Selwood, 9 out of 10 Coaches I would tell them to go the loophole route at M8/9. You fall into an exception catagory though, due to how many trades you have left. 15!!!! I have 7! Given it is the last week of 3 trades, and you will still have at least 12 left after this week, I would say Selwood to Sloane was definitely worth the risk. Anyone with less than say 10 trades, depending on the number of upgrades left to be made, should consider this move a bit too "luxurious", and might be better placed loopholing Selwood through M8/9.

Hey mate, Should i trade selwood - sloane or keep him and use him and cripps as M8. and please dont talk me out of keeping cripps :)
Hey Johnsy,
It looks like you have between 2.5 and 3.5 upgrades still to make. To consider trading Selwood, you probably want at least 4 more trades than you need to complete your team, otherwise it would seem a bit risky and wasteful.

Hi Rowsus, hope you are well.

Thoughts on Montagna? Im 99% sold on him just want to make sure I'm not making a poor decision. I know Sloane is cheaper but have already had him once this year, and believe the pod Montagna creates can be a positive one.

Thanks in advance
Hi bb, I'm good, and I hope you are well, too.
Well done on what you have done so far. It's an especially good effort, seeing as you have dragged those lead weights called Selwood and JPK around, and I can understand you wanting/needing a POD to try and negate their affect on your weekly score.
Joey hasn't had less than 24 disposals or 104 SC in a game this season, and certainly has a good SC pedigree. He is also averaging 6+ Tackles/game for the first time since 2009. He averaged 125 that season, to be clearly in the top scorers, though it should be noted, St Kilda only lost 2 H & A games that season. If he can stat on the park, and continue his more aggressive approach he seems to have this season, I think he can make a great POD.

Hey Rowsus

T Mitchell v Neale v Parker.

Mitchell and Neale average 111, while Parker has averaged 117 over his last 6 matches.

Which one do you think will score the most between now and the end of the season??

Love your work.

Lobo
Hey Lobo,
very interesting question! All three have potential to finish the season very well, or to be disappointing.
It's tough, but I will say Neale, Parker, Mitchell. Neale is averaging 140 in 30+ point wins this season, and I can see Freo having a few more of those. Parkers scoring seems to be a little bit dependant on who is playing in his team, and how well they are going, and Mitchell can be Lewis/Swan like in his scoring. ie lots of possessions, but not converting it to scores.

Hi Rowsus,

I posted on the Round 12 trades thread, but would value your input very much.

Current Team:

Simpson, Murphy, Newnes, Kolojashnij, Saad, Lumumba (Lever, Hamling)
Fyfe, Beams, Danger, Pendles, Selwood, Grifffen, Wallis, CEY (Adamson, Amon, Kavagagh)
Martin, Goldy (Read)
Gray, Mitchell, Martin, Swan, Bonts, Goddard (Gawn, Clark)

9 Trades, $2,600 currently in bank

First two trades pretty much locked

Clark - Lambert
CEY - Sloane

Cash left $89,800

The next bit is where I'm uncertian.

Option 1

Lever - B Smith

Leaves me 6 trades and $6,500 in bank:

Simpson, Murphy, Newnes, Kolojashnij, Smith, Lumumba (Saad, Hamling)
Fyfe, Beams, Danger, Pendles, Selwood, Grifffen, Wallis, Sloane (Adamson, Amon, Kavagagh)
Martin, Goldy (Read)
Gray, Mitchell, Martin, Swan, Bonts, Goddard (Gawn, Lambert)

Option 2

Lumumba - Hibberd

Leaves me with 6 trades and $14,300 in bank

Simpson, Murphy, Newnes, Kolojashnij, Saad, Hibberd (Lever, Hamling)
Fyfe, Beams, Danger, Pendles, Selwood, Grifffen, Wallis, Sloane (Adamson, Amon, Kavagagh)
Martin, Goldy (Read)
Gray, Mitchell, Martin, Swan, Bonts, Goddard (Gawn, Lambert)

Option 3

No further trade, leaving 7 and $90,000 for the future

My defensive line at best is average, and given where I am at now, that is not going to be fixable.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry about the long winded post.
Hi Demman1,
great being a Melbourne supporter, and having and watching Gawn play last week! :D
What about option 4. Lumumba to Smith? Smith's b/E is lower than Hibberds, and given you've still got some upgrades, and half upgrades to make, a value purchase at D6 might be justified. Keeping Lever a little longer, to try and squeeze another price rise out of him could be useful, too!

I'm still not convinced in the value McKernan brings to the table, and as you indicated, the M/F brings potentially more points through loopholing opportunities. I'dwait on jumping on his bandwagon for now, and be leaning towards the Bont option.

Hey Rowsus

What are your thoughts on these trades?

Ryder -> Mckernan
Brayshaw -> Pendlebury
CEY -> Smith

Leaves me with 21 playing this week, 6 trades left and 100k in the bank. Will hopefully do Dale -> Byrne/Goddard & ZOB -> Rockliff in a couple weeks with that 100k. After bringing in Rockliff my team would be complete with McKernan as F7/R3, Saad M9/loopholing D6/7 with Smith when I can. Will have M/F & D/M links in my mids, along with McGovern/Byrne D/F link and McKernan/Read R/F link. This'll leave 4 trades for LTI's in the rest of the season.

Looking forward to your feedback.

Thanks
MrM

EDIT
Also what are your thoughts on bring in Sloane instead of Pendlebury? Pendles has a tough run over the next few and bringing in Sloan instead would save me about 75k for future upgrades (Ablett?)
Hey MrM,
for most people, I would say Ryder to McKernan was not a good idea, but given you have a full Fwd line with Ryder at F7, and have plans to potentially get Ablett, I would say every dollar was important. The other option is to take him all the way down to Mclean. You'd think one of Dale/McLean would get a game for you, until you can do something there!

Hi Slammer,
your idea is the right one. Build flexibility into your line up. With 7 trades left, you have coverage right there, and can strengthen your benches in the coming weeks.
I would think this is potentially the last week Gawn represents value, so getting him now is ok. I think he can be a 90-95 F6/7 Ruck cover, and that's useful, but you don't want to be paying $460k for it.

Hey Rowsus. To add some more background to my question above, I thought I'd share this week's trade plans:

Out - McIntosh, McKenzie, Tarrant
In - Edwards, Sloane, Steele

Leaves 8 trades and just over $132K.

Finishes my midfield with Rocky waiting on the pine. Eventually Cripps will become a forward via Steele to provide mid/fwd cover. Once the likes of Boston, Hamling etc fatten a bit more I will trade Boston to a defender. Saad will stay as cover between mid/def.
