Sheridan. I have to admit my bias here. After having Sheridan in my team for months of the pre-season, I didn't start him. Lonergan seems more likely to play a Mid role than Sheridan, and he's had one excuse game, one bad game, and doesn't have the Lyon factor to deal with.
Schooner of Carlton it is! ;)
What is a schooner? No such word in Vic, I will buy you a pot ;)

Cheers!

Hi Rowsus,

Trust you are enjoying your Aus sojourn, and fitting a few schooners, or pots, in ! I digress, but does anyone remember the days when you could mostly only buy beers at the pub from your own state, and none of that interstate pigswill ?

My question relates to Jack Viney, one of a couple of midfield headaches (B Crouch) that I'm having. In your pre season analysis you seemed to be mildly bullish in your assessment of Viney. That's the way that I read it anyway, and I also had a good feeling about him, which was confirmed by a very solid NAB cup with plenty of CPs and tackles. His season so far has been mildly disappointing so far, and in particular R2 when he seemed to take on some tagging duties and ended up with a terrible score. Do you think this was a one off and with Brayshaw getting more games in Viney will get off the leash a bit more ? I'm inclined to hold him another week but he is starting to feel like an opportunity cost, particularly when I have the means to upgrade him to someone like Selwood or Parker (not to mention the FOMO which is constantly bothering me !).

As always sincere thanks Rowsus for your considered advice.

Hi Rowsus,

Interesting the different beer glass names in different states. In SA, from smallest to largest it goes: Pony (probably not available any more, just a mouthfull glass); Butcher, Schooner (Pot in Eastern states), Pint.

Not really keen on doing 2 trades so not sure what to do with Crouch.
Hartley doesn't really excite me and I don't think I need another rookie defender, although might be tempted to get Ruggles in next week.
Going to give Sherro, Lonergan and Ah Chee another couple weeks to perform.
Also have Dunkley.
I'm thinking no trades this week and maybe can do something with Crouch next week if he looks to be out for a while.
2 trades used so far.
$95,700 in the bank.

Thoughts appreciated

Hey Rowsus,

I had been thinking Rocky > Libba but looking at Goldstein's draw, he could do anything from now until the byes. I was hoping for a decent price drop with mediocre scores against Jacobs, Martin, Gawn and Sandilands. With 172 against Gawn and Sandilands injured, i can't see his price falling by any real amount any time soon.

Rocky > Hartley/Ruggles
Jacobs > Goldy
About 300k in the bank

Do you have any different ideas i should think about?

Hey there Row.

Would love to hear your opinion on this:

Last week I decided to trade Rockliff down to Papley via DPP.

My reasoning was that I believed that Rocky would be out for more than 2 weeks (which is looking very likely) and I also felt like I made a mistake picking him in the hope his injury woes were behind him. Basically I felt like I needed to make a corrective trade to a more robust premium keeper selection. I also felt that if i played my looping cards right, I could maximise my rookie scoring to make up for his absence (this actually worked quite well as I only missed McCarthy's 96 for Papley's 46 but still managed to score over 2300 which I was quite happy with)

This lead me to trading in bubble-boy Papley who, while he did not set the world on fire again, still produced significant coin and should continue to do so. So it was basically undertaking a 1 down 1 up trade...but over 2 weeks instead of the 1.

Which leads me to my question: which under-priced mid would you chose to replace Rockliff? I am currently sitting on Selwood, but would like to hear your thoughts :)

Note: there is also the option of downgrading someone like a Hewett to a Hartley (for example) for more coin, but not sure with a move like that either. No rookies are currently popping out at me :)
Hey there t.t6,
I would look no further than Selwood. Most of the others will be cheaper at some stage, while Selwood is at about the Price he will be (give or take some fluctuation, of course.) He looked good last week, and has got his fitness back, that he missed by not playing in the NAB.
As to the Rookies, I see no value in Hewett to Hartley. I think just wait and see with that other trade.

I've pretty much decided to forgo Goldy and Libba for the season. My season is all but gone already, so i might as well try something different rather than going more cookie-cutter. Right now i'm looking for a POD or two to add to my team that are probably under priced.

Rocky > Zaharakis 470k (11%) // Z Merrett 505k (6%) // Burgoyne 470k (4%) // Jack Martin 415k (2%).

Do you like any of those options to be solid keepers through the year?

Hi Rowsus

Thanks for all of your wonderful work over the years, you really are the supercoach guru! I'm pretty sure I remember reading in one of your posts that Nick Dal Santo has the most supercoach points over his career than anyone else since it's inception. Just wondering if you could confirm this, and if it's readily convenient, perhaps provide a table of the top 10 supercoach scorers of all time with their total career points. Cheers, JC.
Hi JC1978, thanks for the kind words.
Here is a table of the top 21 SC scorers of all time. Unfortunately, it is slightly flawed, as nowhere can anybody find what Ablett scored in 2005! I have given him the best approximate I could.

Hey Row,

You posted in your Tables and Analysis Thread that you thought Jack Martin lacked physical attributes and would be played as a small forward a lot until he develops them.

I've only seen him play once this year (against Freo) and he looks to have bulked up quite a bit and has put together a respectable first 3 games. Has your opinion changed? Or is he still too much of a risk to consider?
Hey bloke,
I'm not saying he shouldn't be considered, but I do think he is high risk.
He's averaging 8 Marks, 16 Disposals, 3 Goals, 2 Goal Assists and 97 SC each game, and GC are winning all their games and have a percentage of 170%.
I just think something got to give, and those numbers can't keep coming, and coming.

I live in Vic and drink schooners! It falls nicely between a pot and pint
You originally from Vic MC Mix? Sounds like NSW-talk to me!! :p
A schooner is a sailing ship with two or more masts, usually with the front mast smaller/shorter than the back one.

......... so if you could just fill one of those Carlton Draught, I will consider our business here complete! ;)

Hi Rowsus,
What are your thoughts on Aaron Young as a stepping stone pick? What does he need to average to make him a good pick in your opinion? Struggling to find a player I like to trade Brad Crouch to. There are no real mid rookies and don't want to really mess with my fwd and def structures. If Menadue does well, I can hold the Crouch trade for another week.

Hi jones711,
I still think he can be 105 player, but I doubt he will beat his B/E with Vince out of the team. I can understand if you traded him out, as I think he might go backwards at first, then finish strong. It's a risk holding players like that, as that strong finish may not arrive in time, if at all.

Hi Rowsus,

Hall worked out a good choice last week - thanks for the advice.

Should probably just hold this week but I keep looking at Cutler in my backline and wonder is there any chance he'll turn around or am I better off correcting him. If I was going to upgrade him would JJ or Smith be a better option? Backline premos are Houli, laird and Bartel. Started with Hartley so that's not an option. Total of $490k available. Appreciate your thoughts?

Edit - not sure what I was thinking - missed the boat on JJ but interested in your opinion on Smith

Hi Rowsus,
Any possible explanation of why players like Shiel and gray have dropped so drastically in TOG?
Also, what are your thoughts on Johannisen and Zorko?
Can we expect 95+ from Johannisen and 100+from Zorko from here onwards?

Hi Juzzo,
Trading at this time of the season is about problem solving. None of your problems need immediate fixing. I would probably not trade this week, if that were my team.

Hey Rowsus, i'm still desperately holding on hope for a decent overall finish. If you had my team, would you advocate trading Lonergan/Yeo to a rookie (Ruggles/Hartley/Byrne etc) early to free up the cash to ditch Greene/Barlow for Zorko/Dahl/Dusty etc and another upgrade next week?

EDIT: I should mention i've made 2 trades thus far, with a measly $600 in the bank.

Thanks Row. Good to know I'm looking at a decent replacement.
Wouldn't mind to hear your thoughts on how I went about it tactically if you have time :p

Ended up going Hewett to Selwood and leaving Hartley alone. Only used 1 trade.
