First, let's look at their Draws (home games in bold):

Fyfe: GEEL, stk, ESS, port
Parker: gws, port, melb, STK
Taranto: SYD, haw*, WBULL, gcoast
Cunnington: HAW, geel, PORT, melb*
Yeo, Gaff: carl, ADE, rich, HAW

* played in Canberra
* played in Launceston

Fyfe - while mathematically Freo can make the finals, it seems very unlikely. When they are officially ruled out, it wouldn't surprise me to see Fyfe cotton-woolled for the season. This really makes him a risk, plus he will likely cop a tag in Rnds 21 & 22. All things combined, I'd by pass him.
Parker - only averaged 91 in his last 4, but has a decent Draw. Barring injury, he should be safe to play the season out. Maybe.
Taranto - has averaged 112 his last 3, with KellyConiglio out, but Kelly should be back next week. Is Kelly the key, or Coniglio? A lot of tough questions, but definitely a maybe.
Cunnington - historically a mid 90's player, and has averaged 90 his past 6. Pass.
Yeo - 9 of his last 12 have been 110+!!! Averaged close to 115 in that time. Top of the list, I would think!
Gaff - looks like "Yeo lite". 9 of his last 12 have been 100+ for a 109 average. Probably 2nd pick behind Yeo.

My order: Yeo, Gaff, Taranto, Parker, Fyfe, Cunnington.

Good luck, I hope you jump the right way!!!
Thanks for that mate, it really clears things up for me. I’ll go with Yeo.
I wish I had have taken your recommendation earlier in the season of taking Marshall, I went with Caleb Daniel instead.

Hi Row, long time no speak, trust you’re well!

3 trades left, team complete. No ruck cover however. Worth getting westhoff to f7/r3 for Chol and rookie dg? Gives me solid cover every line and 1 trade left.

Thank you!

Hey Row,

I just heard Yeo will be tagging Cripps this week, would that put you off bringing him in?

Thanks mate.

Hi d1ck, I'm well, and hope you are too!
I think making 2 trades with 4 Rounds left, just to get a better looking bench, is a bit too much.
I think I'd play "wait and see". You might need all of those trades, without using them on a Ruck.
They could also propel you into the top 4,000 if carnage hits, rather than the top 5,000 you hopefully look like getting.
Good luck

Hey Fiasco,
what we hear, and what actually happens, can sometimes be two different things.
If Yeo plays "run with", rather than "tag", there is still a good chance at a 100+ score.
Even if he does tag, I think longer term, he is your best option.

so true, can always cover Gawn with one trade if he's a late out - still full of wisdom, thank you sir!

Hey Rumb,
given you are looking pretty safe inside the 4, I still think I'd hold off trading.
You never know what carnage you might be facing next week, so holding off stil looks like the best plan.
Good luck!
Afternoon Rows!

Back to quickly pick ya brain again if you don’t mind!

Bad news is I lost my H2H last week but good news is I didn’t move from my 4th place position. I’m playing the top ranked guy in my league this week who already has a full premium team. He currently has 5 trades remaining (don’t ask how I’ve found this out :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:)

What is basic strategy for a qualifying match? (If there is one)
I’m guessing I’ll still need to upgrade the two rookies I have on the field at the moment.

I’m thinking D.Clarke to Houli (shifting Answerth to midfield). Keeping Logue as defensive bench cover.
And Setterfield to a midfielder worth up to 585k. I’m thinking either Oliver, Yeo, Treloar, M.Duncan or Sloane. What are your thoughts mate?

Thanks heaps!

EDIT: Might need to scrap the above plans as Cameron is out....:mad:
What to do!? For my first trade I can bring in Marshall for Cameron and will then have about 555k to spend on a midfielder (if I trade Setterfield out) or 535k to spend on a defender (if I trade out D.Clarke) o_Oo_Oo_O

Hey Rumb,
Bad luck on Cameron!
The first thing I’d do, is check his side against yours, and see if you are a decent chance of beating him by making those 2 trades. The answer is likely to be yes, but if the answer is no, then limit yourself to one trade max.
Assuming you make 2 trades, Cameron to Marshall looks a no-brainer.
I’m not on my computer right now, so I’ll just scroll back to our old posts, and see what the better 2nd trade might be.

Back again.
Even though there is talk of Yeo tagging Cripps this week, if you go with 2 trades, I’d go Setterfield to Yeo.
Good luck in the big match!

Still a good idea to bring Yeo in even though I already have Gaff in my team as well?

My opponent traded out Lycett & Brayshaw to bring in C.Daniel & Seb Ross. He also has Houli which worries me as he went big against the Demons earlier this season (when Cotchin might've been out too).

Will probably just make the Cameron to R.Marshall trade in for now and will make the 2nd trade depending on how my team is performing. By sunday arvo I should I have good idea of whether I have a chance to win or not.

I'd say that is the best plan, by a mile.
Don't let owning Gaff put you off getting Yeo.

Hi Rowsus, hope you are well.

As I distract myself with remainder of my worst performing year ever, I'm stuck whom I should trade Ryan to after serving us so badly post byes. My backline has been a catastrophe this year....and the past few rounds with Andrews and Hurn needing to be traded in a vain attempt to reach the finals in my league.

My backline is now:

Lloyd, Williams, Whitfield, Ryan, Answorth, Logue (Quaynor, Naish)

Who to trade Ryan to with least risk for the rest of the season? I would have picked Rich but Witherden seems to have recovered. Hurn and Houli tired/injured? Ride the Howe rollercoaster?

Thanks for your input mate.

Hi lmcjb, I'm well thank you, and hope you are too.
Without knowing how much cash you have to add to the equation, your best similarly priced options appear to be:
Simpson, Weller, Blicavs, Hunter, Stewart, Blicavs and JonesZ.
Of those, Simpson's early season is too bad to be true, but he has been doing much better in recent weeks.
Blicavs has been playing a dual role in recent weeks, and scoring really well!
Those two are both in less than 3% of teams.
Simpson, then Blicavs, in that order.
If price isn't a factor, then Salem offers a POD option, otherwise, you know the risks and pitfalls, with either of Hurn/Houli.
Good luck

@Rowsus Hey mate I'm posting an update in this thread (my post continued on from your thread) so others could chip in with their opinion too!

Hey everyone, need a bit of advise and your thoughts on the below situation!

Currently I'm 233 points behind my opponent this week in my H2H matchup. He has Macrae (C) and C.Daniel left to play.
I have Hurn, Cripps, Macrae, Answerth & Setterfield left to play. If I take Gawn's VC score from last night I will be 99 points behind him.

My questions are:
1. Should I take Gawn's VC score? I'm worried that Macrae will get 150+ again. Or should I make Macrae or Grundy as C?
2. If trade Setterfield to Yeo, will it give me a highly likely chance of winning the matchup? Or should I just accept defeat save it for next week?!

Currently have 3 trades left. If I trade in Yeo, I will have 2 trades and pretty much no cash remaining going into next week.
If I lose this matchup, I'll still make it through to next week as I finished 4th in my main cash league.
Rumbler: Hurn, Cripps, Answerth, Yeo
Villain: Macrae x 2, Daniel + 99 points

Rumbler: 90, 78, 77, 114 = 359
Villain: 155 x 2, 79 + 99 = 488

Cripps and Hurn down on hoped for scores, Answerth matched Daniel was a win for you. Matching his Macrae Captain still would have seen you 100 behind, so banking Gawn still seems like the right match-up move! Setterfield to Yeo a very worthwhile trade going into next week.

Good luck next week, Rumb!

Thanks for this analysis!!! But if I had put Macrae as C wouldn't I have been 42 points better off?! (since he got 21 more than Gawn).

But regardless it doesn't matter cuz guess what....I WON :D 2477 to 2451!!
Those last few minutes in Brisbane vs. Dogs game were nerve wracking lol
Answerth is a life saver! And that Setterfield to Yeo trade you called worked out to be a masterstroke!

Not playing anyone next week. The SC website shows I've gone into the prelims in round 22 so I'll be back then to annoy you with more questions :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: Not gonna make any trades this week! Here's hoping no injuries

Thanks again!! (y)(y)

Hi Rowsus,

It been a while but I hope that all is well with you. I am hoping to pick your brain. I am looking to win my cash league, am through to prelim finals, have five trades and $182,300 in the bank. My team is as follows:

Lloyd, Whitfield, Willliams, Hurn, Laird, Stewart (Birchall, Gardner)
Macrae, Fyfe, Oliver, Neale, Bont, Cripps, M Crouch, B Couch (Clarke, Bewley, Hill)
Grundy, Gawn (Biers)
Dunkley, Danger, Boak, Heeney, Kelly, Gray (Chol, Young)

I think that my weakest players, and possible negative pods, are Gray, B Crouch and M Crouch.

This week I am considering either:

Gray straight to Marshall and having 4 trades for injuries and, if the Supercoach gods are kind, to potentially trade the Crouch brothers to Treloar and J Kelly via downgrading Clarke, saving one trade for potential injuries or outs in the Grand Final.

Or... Chol and Clarke to Marshall and a 102k mid/fwd which means that Gray and (to lesser extent and in desperate times) Hill can swing and cover my mids and fwds and potentially be looped (particularly Gray), but with 3 trades and the potential carnage, allowing me to at best only upgrade one of B Crouch or M Crouch.

My rank is around 2000, but I'm not overly fussed with that so could potentially do a downgrade this week and then have cash and four trades for the last two round in order to adapt to whatever the Supercoach gods throw at us.

Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Cheers Rowsus.

WOW! That's fantastic! I'm glad it worked out for you!!!!

Just on Gawn v Macrae Captain.

Gawn Captain = 134 x 2 + 155 = 423
Macrae Capt = 155 x 2 + 134 = 444

So 21 better off with Macrae Captain.

So happy you won, and don't have to trade next week!!!

Hi Rowsus,

Please ignore the above request, on reflection I am just going to downgrade Clarke to Carter this week and keep the cash and trades for upgrades and carnage in the last 2 weeks.

Evening Rows!

Hoping everything is fine with you!
Back to pick ya brain (hopefully for NOT the last time this season..!! :ROFLMAO:) about a couple of trades I'm thinking of.

So it's sudden death this week. My situation is below in the attached images. My team is listed on the left and opponent's team is on the right.
Obviously he'll bring in Heeney and Sicily from his bench onto the field so both our projected scores will be similar. He currently has 1 trade left. I have 2 trades and $7k cash left.

I feel I really need to bring in a premium defender for Answerth but for that I'll need to use up both my remaining trades and hope no injury strikes (highly unlikely..!)

Will need to trade D.Clarke out for a rookie mid. Don't know who. John Noble? James Bell? Neither have decent JS or good bench scoring.
Are there any other mid rookies to look at?

After the above trade, I can then trade out Answerth for one of the defenders below:
Z.Williams, Rampe, Houli, D.Byrne-Jones or Newman. I'm currently leaning towards Z.Williams

Other option is to leave Answerth as bench cover, and instead trade out Logue for T.Stewart (or any other defender worth up to ~$450k)

Or....make no trades and loop Logue and Answerth together as D6? Lol probably won't end well...!

Thanks mate,

Evening Rumbler.
It's a pity Burton is back for Port! Byrne-Jones has averaged 109 the past 7 games, largely while Burton was out. With Burton back, DBJ is probably too risky to go with now! (DBJ Rnds 1-8 8/82, Rnds 9-21 12/103, Rnds 15-21 7/109) DBJ might still go well, but the risk rises with Burton back.
As much as I don't like recommending him, mainly due to his injury history, I think you need to go Houli.
The reason is simple:
Houli at the 'G 2019:
Rnd 1 beat Carl 97 - 64 Houli 112
Rnd 2 lost Coll 66 - 110 Houli DNP
Rnd 6 beat Melb 85 - 42 Houli 142
Rnd 9 beat Haw 95 - 59 Houli 102
Rnd 10 beat Ess 73 - 50 Houli 142

Rnd 12 lost Geel 37 - 104 Houli 93
Rnd 17 beat GWS 94 - 67 Houli 104
Rnd 18 beat Port 101 - 63 Houli 111
Rnd 19 beat Coll 98 - 66 Houli 102
Rnd 20 beat Melb 93 - 60 Houli 132
Rnd 21 beat Carl 73 - 45 Houli 102

Rnd 22 v WC
Rnd 23 v Bris

That's a pretty impressive record! He's 10/114.2 at the 'G this season!!!! (9/117 in wins at the 'G this season!)
Richmond will start favourite in each of those last 2 matches at the MCG, so Houli looks the easy and obvious choice.
Though it would surprise me if he maintained his 117 average in wins at the MCG this season, it wouldn't surprise me to see him give you two solid 100+ scores. D Clarke to Bell looks like the obvious choice to get you there.

Good luck, I look forward to hearing how you go!!!

Hey! Thanks,
I've traded in Houli.
Just as an update...my opponent traded out Sloane for Marshall....
VC Gawn was way below par so I need to get my C choice bang on here....decisions decisions!!!
