I've only looked at last years Defenders for this analysis. I used the top 10 Defenders from each of the three different catagories: Average, Aggregate and PIT65. For those new here, PIT65 is the total/average you get when you replace a Defenders score for missing a game with a Rookie, who we will assume scored 65. The percentage section of the table shows how their average score varied from their overall average score. It is broken up into wins and losses, and then by margins in wins and losses.
Individually there is quite some variance, but when we look at the bottom line, there is no great surprise. I was a little out with my 5-7% guess, as the variance is 4.5% (I will give myself a B, or 7/10 for my guess). We can see a predictable trend when those wins and losses are broken up into smaller and larger margins, too.

You have probably already expressed your thoughts on this but i have not been on the fourms lately so sorry for making you repeat yourself. Who do you consider the best floating donut this year and will you be implementing this strategy this year? At the moment i am thinking Hunt from Melbourne DEF/MID dpp and plays late games most weeks.

Given how hard it is to find Rookies we are confident will be selected most weeks, I'm concentrating on trying to find playing Rookies, rather than a FD. Melbournes draw is certainly FD friendly, so Hunt is a good pick. I will be waiting until I have a missing selection to use loopholes. That could even happen in round 1, the way the Rookies are looking!

Not to sound like an absolute tragic, but i plan on being pretty serious this year and having an absolute crack. being stuck in europe like you this season rowsus, i'm interested in what's the best source of info for last minute lineup changes etc??

is there a reliable website?
do you have to scan through each teams twitter?
does supercoach gold notify you of late changes?
how do you keep yourself up to date?

cheers

surely twitter is best as it is here - I just follow all the club sites, patrick keane, freako..etc.. - or SCS website of course!. I'm in the US for 3 months from May and I plan on getting a local SIM and using my smartphone/laptop on the road :)

I think the biggest issue will be timezones - lucky I will be on holdiays so there is plenty of time to work it out before each weekend. Might have to set my alarm for 90 mins before each game if they are in the middles of the night lol!

We at SCS can't help you with time zones though - better learn to not sleep, I am sure Rowsus has tips! ;)

Sorry if this has been asked before.
Dale Thomas vs rookie in the midfield, which is the better option?
I see DT averaging in the 90's (at least first half of season anyway), therefore I think a trade is needed and Dale is used as stepping stone to a premium.
Is going with a rookie a better option?

I am looking at Malceski for a spot in my defense this year, are you able to provide a more statical look at him for me please? I started a thread to try and get everyones opinion on him (HERE) but am now considering Scott Thompson. who has a cracker of a draw and with the North side improving should hopefully slightly improve

any help into these two is appreciated as always

Hey Rowscus, usually hate asking people for advice but what do you and the general community about dale Thomas.
Doubt he'll be a keeper and is a good stepping stone player.
He has massive dealing and is back under Mick Malthouse where he previously Averaged 110.
Has not had a full preseason, will cop more attention and will need to average 90+ to be even considered
Also how did he go in the practice match.
Would really appreciate some thoughts.

You're already in the right place bianchije :)
Hi bianchije,
as IDIG suggested, I always check here first. There are enough regulars with their fingers on the pulse, monitoring twitter etc, that usually as soon it becomes known, it is posted here. On the odd occassion it isn't posted here, which I can't remember the last time it wasn't, then the various twitterers suggested above, the Herald-Sun website, and the AFL website are your friend.

I'm a big fan of a Rookie over Thomas. I don't think he'll make enough money, or score enough points to be selected. Just my opinion. Anything under 100/game is no good, and 100/game is break even in my view. Try doing it this way. Select your team without him. When your happy with your team, if you have enough cash left over, and you're still concerned about not having him, then upgrade to him.

Hi Rowsus,
I was wondering if you know when the 'unlimited' trade period finished? I.E. When we are locked in to only having 30 trades. It's not really clear in the Supercoach rules but I would assume at the bounce of the LAST game of round 1?

Can someone please clarify?

Thanks.

Rowsus,

I always include too many midpricers and I am asking myself "Will they be a keeper."

Can I get your oppinions on the following players if you see them as keepers, possible or not:

S Hurn
J Grimes
D Swallow
M Suckling
D Beams
M Murphy
L Shuey
D Thomas
M Lobbe
A Sandilands
T Hickey
T Cloke
JJ Kennedy
L Parker
T Mitchell
D Zorko
J Caddy
M Wright

Any other questionable players I've forgotten.

Thanks in advance.

I'm of a different view. I think he needs to average 100, not 90 to be of any value. Just my opinion. If you think 90 will generate enough Cash and points to be a worthwhile stepping stone, then if you have enough cash leftover I suggest you get him. At 90/game he makes about $100k by his bye. If you choose a Rookie instead, let's say a $150k Rookie, to make that same $100k he only needs to average 50. I am confident you can find a Mid Rookie that will average well over that, and you can use the near $200k elsewhere for upgrades.

Hi Rowsus

I know it's early days but could you please list your top 5 players for each position who you believe are currently 'Over Priced' but would be worth trading in mid season.

Thx _Slip_

Hi Pearcey,
you've got it right. If you have any WC or WB players on your list, you can make as many trades as you like, up until the scheduled start of that game.
