I've been a regular viewer on this site since Jay started it but never been an active poster. First time for everything! I would really appreciate some thoughts on structure and a few of my POD selections:-

DEF: Shaw, Bartel, Rich, McGovern, Dea, Adams, Broad, Uebergang (FD)
MID: Fyfe, Danger, Ablett, R. Gray, Rocky, Libba, B. Crouch, Mills, Menadue, Hewett, Davis
RUC: Nic Nat, Nicholls, Grimley
FWD: Martin, Barlow, Wells, Bennedy, McCarthy, Kerridge, Brown, AMT

Kitty = $60.6k

The current plan is to use the bold players as stepping stones to the best mids I don't have and to Goldy when (if) he drops in value. The Nicholls selection is based on the Rowsus' stellar pre-season analysis. M4 is a revolving door between R.Gray, Pendles, Wines & Sidey. Gray has edged ahead at the moment as I feel I have taken on too much risk already to have a punt on Wines/Sidey & Pendles pre-season positioning / the pies plethora of mids makes me nervous his scoring may drop slightly.

Thanks in advance.

Been fairly settled on my team for a couple of weeks now.
Any thoughts as to how to improve it? have 93k left

Or this way with a little of the risk removed???

Hi Brett - option two looks good to me.

I think it's hard to pick Rich though, when Libba is much better and significantly cheaper. Could you go Parish to Libba by cutting Rich to someone like Malceski/Sheridan and using your loose change?

You could also consider Grimley up to R3, and picking a cheaper F8 (potentially Uebergang for FD and connection with Brown and Adams), or Tippa for cash generation and def linkage. Also, I understand that Cuningham only played one NAB and didn't get a touch, so I'd look elsewhere for a replacement.

Good luck!

This is my latest team. 13 keepers + Libba and Wells.

team 14.jpg

DEF: Shaw is too pricey for my liking and i should be able to pick him up cheaper before the byes. My picks of Laird, Simpson and Bartel should be solid keepers barring any injuries.

MID: I have 4 of the "big 5" and left out Fyfe. His back has me slightly concerned but he also misses 3-4 games every season (niggles/suspension/resting/Lyon factor). He's definitely an upgrade target though. I've changed Priddis to Gray. I think Priddis is a safe 110-113 option, Gray is slightly cheaper, has potential for more upside and he's 3 years younger than Priddis.

RUCK: Not starting Goldstein. Similar to Shaw i see him as too pricey to start. If one of Martin and Gawn are struggling or get injured, then Goldy is the likely trade in option.

FOR: I'm liking both Robinson and Gray up forward, i think both have a lot of upside this year and should average 5+ higher than last season. The only concern i have is that Sam Gray has only played 17 AFL games.

I have too much cash leftover with 185k still in the bank  I guess it gives me the option to bring in a higher priced rookies like Weitering/Oliver if the cheaper ones don't get named for round 1. Otherwise i'm not sure what to do with it.

DEF: Shaw, Bartel, Yeo, Lonergan, Adams, Broad (Hartley, Uebergang)

MID: GAJ, Rockliff, Selwood, JPK, Ward, Liberatore, Crouch, Gresham (Hewett, Clarke, Davis)

RUC: Goldstein, Gawn (Goetz)

FWD: Martin, Barlow, Hall, Wells, Menadue, Kerridge (Brown, AMT)
This looks pretty good DMCC, although I think your side would look and perform better if you removed one hopeful keeper to improve the quality of a number of your other picks.

No doubt you will have different views on some players, but all of the following look like being outside the top scorers on their line in my view: Yeo, Lonergan, Ward, Hall, Crouch. Selwood has had a very limited preseason, while JPK is ultra solid, but not usually a very top mid. Gawn is also unproven as a top ruck. I would downgrade one of these options all the way to a rookie (probably Ward or Selwood, with Selwood becoming an upgrade target if he goes) to try to upgrade a number of the rest. Crouch to Mills would also raise cash.

I think this will mitigate the risk of you ending up with a team that is complete early, but not able to compete with those that have stronger names in the last 2-3 spots on each of the main lines. Good luck.

Hi Bonb - good to see you getting more active after a long gestation period! :)

My suggestions would be:

- Rich and McGovern looks quite mid-pricerish down back to me. I don't mind McGovern as a pick, but struggle a lot with Rich. Smith looks a much safer bet to me, with more upside and a lower price. Simpson is also a very solid pick in my eyes, or you could try Laird. Personally, I'd also try to get Hartley in - I think a lot of people will be starting him on the field. I understand some informed Tigers fans don't expect Broad to be best 22, so that could be an easy switch.

- Your mids are very strong, but Crouch at M7 seems to be weakening the rest of your side a bit. Crouch and Gray are the picks I'd be least positive on, so I'd consider trimming one of those. I'd also say Pendles is a much better pick than Gray - he basically always beats Gray across a season, is cheap versus his history, is more durable and a solid C option (as opposed to VC), plus his mooted role change appears to not have influenced his centre bounce attendance in the NAB. If you really don't want Pendles, another very safe option could be JPK (who I think is potentially cheap), or maybe Priddis. I think Libba is a keeper as well.

- I had a similar plan with Goldy for quite some time, but couldn't find a temporary R2 I liked. If you're confident on Nicholls, I wouldn't dissuade you from doing this. Just starting Goldy may be an alternative for you, and it's the way I've now gone. I really like NicNat and have since last year.

- Your forwards look good - I have all 8 :)

Overall, I'd look to strengthen your back line via trimming selectively in your mids. Good luck :)

Very thin forwards with only 5 of them starting aha
Who's your last forward rookie?
Looks pretty good overall, but you might be sacrificing a few top liners in defence by going so need as you've filled most of your spots. Assuming Weitering becomes Shaw, you can't get McVeigh, Houli, McDonald, Rance anymore.
Malira is the other.

I'll see if I can get Shaw in for Kolo or Yeo

Darkie you've been more than generous with taking the time to provide feedback for a whole bunch of people so I'll give you my take on your team.

On your backs I'm not in love with the Smith pick but can certainly see why you've picked him. I have Shaw/Boyd/McVeigh as clear top 6 picks which would mean you'll need to turn one of your existing into premium bench cover or sideways one of them. You may of course disagree about those 3 then it's a non issue :p

I like Oliver but I like BCrouch so much more. Potential 100+ mid pricer for mine (if he can stay fit) and one I'll struggle to leave out if named Rd 1. I can see you've decided to leave Fyfe out which I can understand why.

Boomer fwd could be a nice Pod. Any reason in particular you've gone with him over the more fancied Buddy?

A couple of floating donuts is interesting, especially as one of them is not the more popular R3 that ppl usually go.

All in all a very solid team but as you don't have Shaw and Fyfe, I feel you're a premium short.

Like your team, pretty solid.
Not keen on the rich selection, l think he's had plenty of time to step up and just hasn't, better options available for similar price.

Some nice pods in your team, like the forwad line especially.

Thanks for your help. What do you think of these changes:
Simpson - Bartel
Rich - Seedsman
Rockliff - Fyfe
Hewett to McDonald-Tip (via moving Kennedy to mids).

Which leaves about $23k in the bank.

I could then potentially look at trading Brown to someone like Petracca with the mid-forward link to give me a mid-forward rookie in the forward line to be able to move Kerridge/Menadue/Kennedy between the mid and forward line as necessary.

Or would you just look to trade Rich to someone around $400k. If so any suggestions?

Don't mind this team. I think your team would be better however if you downgraded Smith to a rookie and had an extra promo in the midfield. I just think that DEF premos are too unreliable to start heavy there and you can generally pick up premos there on the cheap. Harvey could be a good POD but I'm not brave enough to pick him at this stage of his career.

Feedback on my team would appreciated.

DEF: Shaw, Laird, Lonergan, Weitering, Dea, Hartley (Broad, Brown)

MID: Danger, Pendles, Ablett, R.Gray, Rockliff, Parker, Libba, Mills (Gresham, Keays, Davis)

RUC: Goldy, NicNat (King)

FWD: Barlow, Hall, Wells, Menadue, Kennedy, Kerridge (Grimley, Tipungwuti)

12k left. Risky strategy but I really do think it's worth taking because premo defenders and forwards are usually easier to pick up on the cheap than the mid ones. If Libba and Hall turn out to be keepers that gives me 13 keepers to start with.

Thoughts?

Jesus Christ, what a good team. :) Don't want to ruin your week but I would stay at home this Friday if I were you.

I would move Kennedy into Parker's spot and put another keeper in the forward line like Dusty or Sam Gray or Mitch Robinson. You would only pick Libba believing he is an M8 which means you are leaving 1 spot in your midfield for an upgrade. The chances that a coach can pick 7 of the best midfielders at the start of the year is pretty miniscule and Longmire has talked about Parker spending time forward because he is a good mark.

You can leave the house on Sunday though, things should get better.
