FORMER steeplechaser Harry Sharp has set a new 2km time trial record at the Victorian NAB AFL Draft Combine on Saturday.

The Greater Western Victoria Rebels prospect underlined his athletic qualities with a brilliant run in the endurance test.

His time of 5 minutes 28 seconds smashed the record attained by Jay Rantall at last year's Draft Combine, when the now Collingwood midfielder ran 5:50 in the gruelling aerobic test.
I was interested and thought that would be pretty close to a competitive time for that distance. The Australian record is 4:50 for 2000m, the world record is 4:45, so for a non-specialist, it's a pretty good effort.

Looking at results over that distance in world athletics this year, he'd have a time just outside the top 40 athletes. That is nuts.

Yeh pick 17 isnt much better than pick 23 though haha. Maybe throw someone like Dunstan/Wilkie on top. Etiher way the pick they get will be 20+
Massive problem for the Saints. They have pick 15 and then their next pick is 58, and that's before dilution due to compensation picks. Pick 2 is equivalent of 10, 15 and 73.
There's been talk of Seb Ross touring Essendon facilities, so not sure what they'd get for him.

Doubt he will move but if he did maybe whatever they get from Carlton for Saad. Saad to Blues sending pick 17 to Essendon, pick 6 to Crows and Seb Ross to Essendon. Maybe Crows give up the 2nd rounder to Carlton and Crouch to Saints. That sounds good to me.

Saints get Crouch but lose Ross + pick 17.
Crows get pick 6 but lose Crouch + pick 22.
Blues get Saad and pick 22 but lose pick 8.
Essendon get Ross + pick 8 + 17 but lose Saad and pick 6.

They're after Jack Higgins as well. Does 58 (at least 60 now) satisfy, or do they need to swap future picks?

Seems to be getting messy at the Saints.

Essendon have pick 41 which should be about right for Seb Ross.

interesting times ahead, I would have thought with Lethlean working in the AFL previously they'd have some sort of idea. Let's see what happens. 😜

Just adding on that Essendon would Have Ross + picks 7,8+17. Maybe offer up pick 7+8 or one and a future 1st and get Dunkley whilst still remaining in the first round this year.

I think they can't trade a future 1st either unless they get another future 1st from another club.
