Does anyone know much about this guy and or how likely he would be to start round 1 / get early games?

Persistence pays off for Montgomerie (essendonfc.com.au)

Rhett Montgomerie was already an established and reliable figure in Central District's defence, but produced a breakout season in 2022 to make AFL clubs stand up and take notice of his talent. The intercept defender offers terrific range at 190cm and also fares well with ball in hand, proving a sound decision maker coming out of the defensive half.

Marking is where Montgomerie earns his keep, playing a style which suits the third tall role which is so in vogue at the moment. He averaged 7.9 grabs per his 17 SANFL games this year, notching a high of 12 on three seperate occasions - including against Port Adelaide in Round 10.

His work in the air was complimented by neat disposal by foot, with Montgomerie going at a terrific 80 per cent kick efficiency rate. Rounding out his game, the 22-year-old is a handy athlete who topped the time sheet over 20m at the recent South Australian draft combine.

A mature-ager among a raft of 18 or 19-year-old prospects, Montgomerie's rise in a SANFL side which finished second-bottom has been impressive. He offers that intercept value to a club in need of relatively readymade cover, having four years of senior football under his belt.

Obviously, will need to monitor over preseason, but I think the Bombers are set at the third tall defender, so he would be depth.
Right, cheers for that...he doesn't seem to be available for selection yet in SC although he is on the senior list.

Oh my bad, he is available in SC but apparently his name is spelled Mongomerie, he's a 102k Defender.

Star Brisbane forward Zac Bailey is targeting a premiership after extending his stay at the Lions by a further two years.
Bailey, 23, will now remain at the Lions at least until the end of 2026 following the extension of a deal that already had him tied to the club for the next two seasons.
“I’ve absolutely loved my first five years at the club and really feel at home here,” said Bailey who was chosen by the Lions at number 15 in the 2017 national draft.

So the Crows sign Tyler Brown within four days of giving him a shot as a train-on player.

Not too familiar with him apart from the heritage, can any Collingwood supporters give me a run down of his chances of grabbing a best 22 spot? Our midfield is probably our weakest link, I’m hoping he could do what Benny Keays did and grab his second chance.

ADELAIDE has signed former Collingwood defender Mark Keane to fill the final spot on its list for this season.

The Irishman spent three seasons on the Magpies' list as a Category B rookie from 2019 to 2021, before returning home in August 2021. He returned briefly for pre-season training in November, but opted to retire from the game after five senior appearances.

However, the 22-year-old revealed in May that he'd be open to returning to the AFL.

Keane has signed a one-year deal with the Crows during the pre-season supplemental signing period and is expected to join his new teammates at training in coming weeks.

Keane, who stands 194cm and 96kg, said the timing was right for him to return to Australia and he was excited about resuming his AFL career with Adelaide.

"I never lost the passion to play the sport and when the opportunity arose to come back it was something I obviously considered very strongly," Keane said.

"The circumstances are right and so is the timing on the back of winning an All Ireland Grand Final with my club Ballygiblin.

"I will be able to have my family and friends fly out and visit which will make a big difference and I’ll also have the support of my partner Caoimha who will be moving to Adelaide as well so we are very excited about what lies ahead."

Keane has also played top-level hurling and Gaelic football in Ireland.

Adelaide list manager Justin Reid said Keane would help boost the team's defensive stocks this year.

"We are very excited that Mark has decided to return to Australia and committed to continuing his AFL career with us," Reid said.

"We understand the travel and quarantine challenges he faced during the Covid pandemic throughout 2020 and 2021, but thankfully a lot has changed in that space since then.

"Throughout our discussions with Mark and his management he has made it clear he is eager to pursue an AFL career with the support of his family and friends and we are delighted that will be with our club.

"Mark is super competitive, with good speed and lateral movement which we think will complement our young and developing backline nicely."

IRISHMAN Darragh Joyce has secured an AFL lifeline after Brisbane added him to its rookie list ahead of the pre-season supplemental selection period deadline next month.

The 25-year-old was delisted by St Kilda at the end of August following 13 senior appearances across six years, after originally joining the Saints as a Category B rookie in 2016.

INS AND OUTS Every club's full list changes ahead of 2023

AFL.com.au revealed last week that Joyce had been invited to train with the Lions, following the decision to place Marcus Adams on the inactive list, and he has now secured a deal for 2023.

The second chance comes after Joyce decided to remain in Australia after being passed over during the delisted free agency window, before signing with Collingwood's VFL program for season 2023.

Joyce is the second player from the Emerald Isle to join Chris Fagan's squad during the pre-season supplemental selection period after the Lions beat Port Adelaide, St Kilda and Essendon to secure the services of Conor McKenna when the window opened on December 5.

After a handful of Irishmen returned home during the pandemic – including McKenna, who battled homesickness during his time at the Bombers – three have now returned to the AFL system this pre-season.

FIXTURE ANALYSED Which club has the hardest draw in 2023?

Adelaide signed former Collingwood key defender Mark Keane on the weekend to address a need in defence following former top-10 pick Fischer McAsey's decision to walk away from his AFL career earlier this month.

Keane opted to remain home and play Gaelic football in 2022 rather than see out the final year of his contract at the AIA Centre, before being lured back to the game by the Crows.

With Joyce earning another shot in Queensland, Brisbane now has three Irishmen on its list in 2023, with Dublin product James Madden also at the Lions.

Geelong currently has three players from Ireland at GMHBA Stadium after Oisin Mullin joined premiership duo Zach Tuohy and Mark O'Connor, while Conor Nash and Fionn O'Hara are at Hawthorn, Cian McBride is at Essendon and Callum Brown is still on Greater Western Sydney's list.

The pre-season supplemental selection period closes on February 15.

Gold Coast’s emerging star Noah Anderson says he was so determined to pledge his long-term future to the club he never considered signing a deal of less than four seasons.
The Herald Sun can reveal Anderson has added another four years to his contract, with a deal set to expire at the end of this season now locked in through to October 2027.

That deal takes the 21-year-old through to free agency in a major coup for the club’s stated mission of retaining its senior core of players.
