To be honest if we had a half decent squad to work with I would have loved to see Dean Cox get his chance but I feel given the current circumstances that whoever takes the job on now is simply rebuilding the team for the coach after that to return the club to flag contention. Therefore, IMO, Cox would be wasting his best shot at being a successful senior coach.

Campbell Brown firmly believes that Dean Cox will be the next coach of West Coast.

It comes after the the Eagles announced that they had parted ways with premiership coach Adam Simpson after 11 years.

Hawthorn premiership player Brown is confident that former star Eagles ruckman Cox will replace Simpson at the helm in 2025.

“I’ll give you some breaking news,” Brown begun on SENTrack.

“You can take this as absolute gospel. Now he won’t be replacing him right now because he’s not at the club as he’s currently up in Sydney.

“Dean Cox will be the coach of the West Coast Eagles next year.”

Cox is currently John Longmire’s assistant at the Sydney Swans where he has been since the end of the 2017 season.

The 2006 premiership ruckman played 290 games for the Eagles, was an All-Australian on six occasions and won a best and fairest.

In 2023, Cox reportedly ruled himself out of the Eagles job when he was previously linked to Simpson’s position.

Don Pyke, the current West Coast CEO, worked alongside Cox at the Swans before taking the job.

Hope Brown is on the money but not sure how reliable he is ...:unsure:

Swans assistant Cox opts out of Eagles coaching race
Story by Anna Harrington • 39min

West Coast will have to look elsewhere for their next AFL coach after likely frontrunner Dean Cox opted not to apply for the job in favour of remaining at Sydney.

But the highly-rated senior assistant insists there is no succession plan in place with current mentor John Longmire.

Cox, an Eagles champion as a player, was widely considered the top candidate to replace Adam Simpson at his former club amid rave reviews of his work at the ladder-leading Swans.

But on Friday afternoon, Cox confirmed he had told West Coast he was out of the race..........

So @Shannon would Ashley Hansen be the matching coach to go with English? Given his years at the Dogs would know English well.
A possibility you would think. Don’t have intel on the coaching situation currently but would expect there would be multiple calls/conversations with Hansen to see how interested he is. Not sure if we are more interested in an experienced past head coach or prefer a senior assistant that has been in the system & waiting for the right opportunity to come their way.
