They played together, and Mitchell would have coached Barrass. Maybe Channel 7 are jumping to conclusions?
Ryan Daniels is not the kind to push unfounded rubbish out there. As far as journos go, he is about as good as it gets for reliability. Clearly he thinks what he has heard has some substance. Doesn't mean Barrass will leave. However, as @Shannon advises, if that 200k is true then it gives you something to think about. It is that time of year where trade rumours abound. So I will add to it. How about if we could work a three way deal with the Bulldogs which might help get us English:sneaky:

I agree, when I saw that Daniels was reporting it my opinion changed. He is very good.

My understanding is that Barrass’ medical issues may be an obstacle to another club taking him on. We’ll see how it plays out.

Rumour is 200k more a year than WCE
I think Barrass is likely gone... Meeting with an opposition coach in-season usually means a deal is a fair way down the road.

As much as I like Barrass... I'm happy West Coast seem to finally be putting their foot down and not committing a long term deal on huge money to a guy who will be nearing mid 30's when the deal he wants would end..

English is a Restricted Free Agent so can come to West Coast for nothing but what it costs us in cap space.

WBD can match an offer but it's rumored they don't want to offer 6 years and won't match IF the compensation pick is a first rounder.

Barrass has some back issues that don't stop him playing but may factor in the coming years. The thinking from his side.. apart from the extra dollars, is likely that being based in Melbourne would significantly cut down his travel, and help prolong his career.

I think it's a win-win situation... HAW or WBD get an elite key defender, Barrass gets the money and security he's after, and West Coast gets draft capital that we desperately need.

That would make sense re being in Melbourne and having to travel less. My understanding was that he had been reasonably close to going to Sydney previously, which would make less sense from a travel perspective (albeit still better than Perth). Maybe the situation has evolved since then.

I can see how a big contract (annual salary and/or a significant number of years) would be attractive in Barrass’ position.

I think that is an excellent summary of the situation. And yes we desperately need draft capital.
