'I didn't feel out of place': Giants' top pick eyeing R1 debut
Last year's No.4 draft pick is confident of performing at the highest level if he gets his chance

but later on

Noble or BZT or McAsey? Can only afford one.
And who do people have for the midfield bench? I'm struggling to fill that up with cheap rookies who have decent JS...
I have Green but can't afford Starcevich unless I sacrifice $$$ in other positions.
Starcevich, Robertson & Mahony/Budarick appears the popular mid bench at this stage

think a lot of final teams will depend on how many of Starcevich, Williamson, Brander , Watson & Williams are actually named and where we place them, not sure if people will start the likes of Ash, BZT & McAsey eyc on the bench

given so much uncertainty over what is going to happen, maybe just start the cheapest Neville Nobody's on the bench donuts might not matter too much if we cant even get to Easter, we won't be playing in May - July.

Don't like the sound of that at all. Licking a team lollipop? Terribly unhygienic. Will be out with 'cold-like symptoms' before you can say corona.

I think all things going well with the AFL season and Covid-19 probably only Rowell and Noah Anderson would play all games out of that group.

If the AFL moves towards cramming more games into the first part of the season I would say none, 5 day turnarounds for the kids, let alone most seasoned players will be too much.
There is already talk of a "super" supplemental draft if the AFL needs / decides to accelerate a portion of the season.

If that is the case then there'll be a *lot* of sub 150k rookie-priced players appearing on the SC playing list.

EDIT: Will be interesting to see what the fantasy games do in that case - perhaps just give us an extra supplemental player bench with no positional restrictions to work with?

that's all well and good but if the second tier competitions are cancelled/suspended as well they are not going to be even close to being match ready

like the mid season draft last season took ages for many of them to get their training loads up to AFL standard, "learn" the system etc etc

Maybe an extra 10 trades or something silly

The Age reported on Sunday night other measures – including extended interchange benches and playing shorter quarters – have also been floated.

Our shortages of selecting Rookies will be solved.
Who then will score less points , with more players and less match time.

Plenty of rookies will be named Round 1 , just whether we are prepared to start them at their starting prices.

Some news on M.Hibberd. Potentially a chance for R1 but I think it'll be tricky for us to just throw him in there without any sort of Marsh or VFL form at the expense of CB rotations to McGrath/Parish types
https://www.essendonfc.com.au/news/577534/fit-dons-put-hand-up-to-return

Experienced ruck Tom Bellchambers, key forward James Stewart, veteran onballer David Zaharakis and new Don Mitch Hibberd have all put their hand up for selection to take on the Dockers, while several others are also on the brink of their returns.

Hibberd’s return to the field earlier in the day for the VFL Bombers’ pre-season game against the Cats provided him with the opportunity to prove his full fitness and a pain-free return has seen him join Zaharakis in the selection mix.

“David got a corked thigh and we took him off as a matter of precaution. He’s trained fully with the group this week and he’s available to play.

“Mitch, that was his first game back following a knee arthroscopy and he’s pulled up really well. Again, he’s available this week.”

No VFL/reserves comps makes rookies interesting.

Those that aren't picked Round 1 aren't going to get to prove themselves and earn a call up, so may take a while longer to debut. But it could also have the opposite effect of clubs rotating their younger players more to get gametime into everyone they can. Wonder how it will unfold.

Potentially 3-4 rounds in we may see some rotations in and out if there are multiple games in weeks. It's not ideal though as they may just be in for 1 game and straight out... I recall Essendon have tried this before for the short 4 day turnarounds with ANZAC day year to year.

Rookies will be very interesting. There are a few almost competing factors here:

- If the AFL cram games in once the season gets back from a long break; then yes there may more player rotations and more lower cost players may get a chance to play a game or two.
- However a long break with no games means that there will be less injuries. Sure players can get injured while training, but without knowing the figure I would assume there would be less injuries from training than games.
- With the possibility of there being less games, the better players who are carrying injuries may err on the side of playing now instead of having a week off, because hey who knows when they may play again hey.
- Anyone that gets any type of cold will probably be forced to not be around the cub an not play.

TLDR: Who the hell knows!!!
