Hatey... no thanks. Can't play him on-field (unlike Logue), not DPP, expensive, don't really need his cash generation, poor JS.
But if you have both Coniglio and Kelly in the mids could he be handcuff-cover, history says no, but if he plays well, yeah, no , probably still no.

Kind of annoyed Hately comes in this week after speculation he isn’t happy and wants a return to SA.

I don’t have the trades for him to be a viable in.
Ah, first I've heard of this and could explain a lot.

Hately an interesting case ... just my musings ...

- Obviously a hard team to break into but has done well SC wise when he has had the chance ... but why out with all those injuries ... (wrong position ?? or wrong team ??)
- Obviously has a SA go home factor so if they play him and he continues to go well then it'll cost those SA clubs a shedload ... and become almost un-affordable to those clubs IMO ...

At this stage Adelaide have pick 1 that they can wheel and deal with. If it's not used for Grundy I can see them trading it to make a bit of a move. 2 high-ish first rounders + some extras could get them Hately + a few other pieces to catapult them up into a serious flag threat pretty quickly.

Gould or Stephens are SA boys who will likely be available (at this early stage per phantom drafts etc) around pick 8-15, so trading down might be a savvy move for retention purposes etc.
Hearing good things about the top few picks though, so it's a fair risk long-term.

Nice insights and I hadn't considered trade positions ...

Can they get Hately next season though ? I thought they had to stay at the club that drafted them for 2 years ?

Gibbs can't get a game in Adelaide's midfield at the moment with Sloane , Crouch x 2 , CEY , Greenwood , Milera , Douglas etc etc so he (Hately) might still be behind the queue.

Apparently Anderson & Rowell are better than Walsh (all hype of course at this stage) so not sure they would give up # 1.

I would be locking ROB away before one of the Melbourne Clubs come knocking.

Interesting times ahead.

I agree re: ROB. I think Adelaide would be mad to sell the farm to get Grundy next year. Pick 1 would be the starting point from a Collingwood perspective.
I also think it's true that recruited players can't be poached so soon, although it it were mutually agreed to by all parties...

In fairness I think the GWS midfield is way stronger (and more difficult to break into) than the Adelaide mid. Seems a similar situation to T Mitchell a few years back at Sydney, although he obviously had way more runs on the board than Hately currently has.

Would have to be a mutual agreement to get Hately early .... so I honestly don't see it happening .... unless PTA really want him but almost fail to see who gives way UNLESS you look at player ages and take a long term view ...

ROB has something special about him , still obviously raw.

Interesting all this talk about Hately , haven't seen Bonar & Shipley at all in the seniors this season who were both highly regarded as well.

They have shown in the past they will let mids go eg Adams , Shiel , Treloar , Tyson etc etc if they are confident with what's developing , might all depend on whether Coniglio leaves or stays.

I have discussed Mitchell's situation at the Swans too many times in the past to go back over that again ?

I guess now Hately has been named again it is up to him to perform and make Cameron drop someone else.

I think Collingwood could/should/will do all they can to keep Grundy but if he was to request a trade home from Adelaide I’d expect they would chase pick 1 + ROB in exchange for Grundy and possible rd 4-5 pick

Wonder how these kids that get drafted would cope with home sickness issues if they joined the Armed Forces.

he might actually be more interested in joining his brother at the other club here

I can't see Grundy going anywhere ... IMO they will find a way to keep him ...

ROB on the other hand .... I'd be locking him away ...

One thing I'd love to know is, where did the Hately go home factor talk start from?

From what I can gather, he's a very mature kid, that was well aware and comfortable with going interstate if thats the way it fell for him on draft night. From the draft videos and interviews I've seen, he and his family were pretty stoked with him going to GWS, and his mothers side have a lot of family in Canberra/Sydney.

I also think he would've known from day dot that there was the likelihood that he would play majority of his time in the twos this year due to the strength of the GWS side and midfield. He's shown from his two games this year that he can match it at the top level, and that taste would've given him and the coaches points for him to work on back in the NEAFL, where he has gone to another level the last 5-6 games.

Idk, I just feel everyone has sort of gone early on the go-home factor for Hately.
However, I could be wrong obviously, and we see him head back to SA on the next plane out of there. :ROFLMAO:
