I only have Grimely as a loophole option, so can only take a VC option tomorrow night ... So looking like Rance as my only premo playing, so unlikely to be used (will be a massive POD if I do get to call on him though!) then probably Goldy as C .... Surely Danger can't go massive back to back? So I'm leaning to Goldy.

Not sure who's the better player to VC, Gawn or Goldy

I'm trying to weigh that one up too.

I think Goldy. Stef could be bit puffed coming back from the West and 6 day break?
On the other hand Gawn has Essendon?

Too hard basket, but I think Goldy.

In the past couple of seasons, Goldstein's three battles with Stef Martin have gone: 127, 154 & 122.

Gawn has only scored above 122 twice in his career. I will concede that one of those was a 150 against the Bombers last year, where he dominated the hitouts 58 to Shaun McKernan's 20, however he will be facing Leuey this time around so we won't expect as one-sided a performance.

I guess a lot of Gawn's points come from his work around the ground, so my argument is less valid, but that's my 2 cents.

Scott Pendlebury will be crucial to Collingwood's chances.

Collingwood captain Scott Pendlebury will carry sore ribs into Friday night's blockbuster against Richmond, says Sam 'Scoop' McClure.

The Sports Today newsbreaker said the Magpie superstar wasn't in any danger of withdrawing before the game, but warned tipsters and supporters alike that Pendlebury wouldn't be 100 per cent for the crucial clash.

"I'm not sure if they're cracked, but they're certainly sore," McClure explained on 3AW.

"He's going to play (but) he's keen for people to not know about it.

"Sorry, Scott."

Nothing official but I have some mail Pendles has a cracked rib... Just for those people considering him as a captain option this week. Keep an eye out if he misses training etc.
The mail is usually pretty solid. It might not be enough to keep him out of the team but it's enough to stop me slapping the VC on him Friday night personally. Having said that, it wouldn't be the first time someone has played sore and dominated. Sometimes ignorance is bliss!

So Goldy or Gawn?

Goldy was only on 62 at 3QT last week, helped dramatically by his 4 contested marks in the final quarter when the game was in the balance. Stef Martin is no mug. I know Brissy bent over last week but are they really that bad?

Gawn started strong against Mummy and faded as the game went on. He scored 150 last time vs the bombers (McKernan), so this time they have a better ruck but a far worse team.

Is it splitting hairs or do ppl think there will be a clear winner?

I think BomberSam's points above (post #108) is a valid answer to your query.

Personally, I would back a guy who has a much stronger history and has demonstrated that he can score well against his opponent on numerous occasion. After all, we did fork out $700k for the man so why not put him to good use. Gawn did match up against the Martin/Luey combo in round 16 of last year, scoring 105 off a 38HO and 13 disposals game (Melb won the match 60-36). For the records, Martin had 18HO and Luey had 26HO in that game.

Not sure if you are arguing for or against Gawn at the end there?

Don't understand why people are even considering Gawn. Surely everyone has some combo of Gaz/Fyfe/Goldy/Danger to pick from?

Gawn as VC I can undestand if you don't have any viable loophole after the BRL v NTH game.

Not so much if you have Uebergang, Goetz, Loersch or the likes.
