Don't understand why people are even considering Gawn. Surely everyone has some combo of Gaz/Fyfe/Goldy/Danger to pick from?
I will opt for a Pendles/Gaz/Fyfe/Goldy/Danger combo 90% of the times they present themselves (this week included) however I do see the merit in a POD captain such as Gawn.

The VC loophole is an area of the game where most is to be gained by taking less popular options. You get two shots, why not role the dice on a POD, Gawn for example, and he might go 150... perhaps one or two of Pendles/Gaz/Fyfe/Danger/Goldy will also go 150, but in an average week 120-130 is more likely.

There are points to be gained, but if your risk doesn't pay off, you have a second chance, i.e. Ablett or Dangerfield (this week)... let's say half of the play-it-safers have ran with Pendles as VC and the other half have opted for Goldy. What are the chances of one of Pendles and Goldy putting up a bankable score? Probably 80% but which one? If one of them fails to reach the expected benchmark (40% chance?) they will go to Ablett or Danger as captain. If you roll the dice on a POD VC selection and it does not pay off, you will quite possibly be on level ground with 50% of the play-it-safers, and end up with a popular captain option, for better or for worse.

In the past couple of seasons, Goldstein's three battles with Stef Martin have gone: 127, 154 & 122.

Gawn has only scored above 122 twice in his career. I will concede that one of those was a 150 against the Bombers last year, where he dominated the hitouts 58 to Shaun McKernan's 20, however he will be facing Leuey this time around so we won't expect as one-sided a performance.

I guess a lot of Gawn's points come from his work around the ground, so my argument is less valid, but that's my 2 cents.
Gawn has only played 41 games for 9 tons and two above 120. Interestingly in his first 41 games Goldy only scored 3 tons and two were above 120. In his next 41 games however he produced 23 tons and 10 over 120. Ruckmen take time to develop before it all comes together and they break out. Hoping Gawn follows Goldys lead.:)

Would you VC De Goey or Rance if they were your only choices?
De Goey. Got a feeling he will smash out his career best game so far tonight. As long as you have Dangerfield/Ablett captain, you can afford to go for riskier choices imo, I mean isn't that what the loophole is for? De Goey will get a load of minute time too with Pendlebury sore, Swan/Sidebottom out and Collingwood won't be smashed as hard.

Thanks for the debate on Gawn / Goldy. You are all right but I think the logical thing to do is back history and as you said, let the $700k man do what you pay him to do.

The Essendon factor is just so seductive right now, coupled with the fact that for 3/4 last week Goldy was just average. I need to remember that one of the biggest selling points I myself was spruiking in the off season was the fact that Goldy has the ability to run people into the ground. In my head I'm like, if he didn't take those 3-4 contested marks in Q4 he would have only scored 80-100. Need to remember that's why he's the premier ruck in the comp, because he can play 4 solid quarters where other guys tire as the game drags on.

Thanks for the input. Goldy into Danger................. Now to work out if I can actually loophole it :/

i take the opposite approach and always try and loophole my biggest guns. My lowest captain score last season was Ablett's 119 in RD 1. I understand some people are limited this round with there VC options though.

Dusty. Rance is a solid performer that you can expect 90-100 from most weeks, but Dusty is more likely to rip out a 140 and it's these big scores you want from your captain.
While I completely agree with what you said, ill just put it out there that Rance went 150+ twice last season while Dusty only did it once

Seconded. I have come to my senses and will go Goldy considering i paid so bloody much for him it would be possibly trying to be too clever giving the responsibility to Gawn who failed to cracked the ton last week.

The Essendon factor was my main reason for seriously considering Gawn but going back through the scores they only really gave up 2 acceptable captain's scores (Gaz 139, Hall 129) whereas Brisbane gave up 3 which were a good 20-50 points more (JJK 180, Priddis 159, NicNat 153).

Had a dream last night that I was playing someone that had DeGoey and he scored 142 with VC on him.

I had that dream last week that I picked Fyfe as a 123k mid/fwd... last night, Shannon Hurn and Paddy Dangerfield helped my futsal team to victory. They are both on my SC team, hahaha.

Mate, if you're starting to have dreams (premonitions) i'd be doing the opposite. Easiest 50k you'll ever make :D

I've go very little scope for looping, my donuts being Wyatt and Uber, so I'm throwing the VC on Gawn, into Ablett or Danger.

Unfortunately, if Gawn scores well, it will mean benching Adams. Not ideal this week.

Edit: I've found another way to do it. Will mean I can't loop in my backline, but can at least loop Ablett vc, into Danger.

I've had a bad track record on Friday night captains (Personal conspiracy theory that no-one gets scored big) so will resist the temptation to slap vc on Pendles. Goldy into Danger for mine. Natanui had an almost career best against Martin last week (I Have Martin) and although that says a lot about Natanui and how well he played, it also says a bit about Martin giving up points. Bit wary of a Danger let down against GWS but don't trust Gaz to go whack over at freo.

PendleVC into Ablett/Danger seems the only way to go for me. The only player not named in my side is Petracca

How are you able to loophole Ablett as GCS is playing FRE (Uber) and COL plays tonight, unless you have another donut that plays on Sunday?
