I nearly **** myself when I saw the news

was looking for a way out of grawndy (I know its very early etc etc) but I think English could be a pretty good back up

im sure Gawn will still be 1st or 2nd but might start slow but then again it could be grundy's toe all over again but at least he was able to play

wouldn't you be better off just with Comben & say someone like Ceglar if you are worried about Nic Nat & Sauce missing ?

Planning to start Ceglar R2, planning to swing him to the forwards and grab Gawn if/when Gawn builds to full fitness and has hopefully dropped in price significantly.

So what happens if Gawn misses Round 1 ? hope that Cameron is named and swap him & Comben around or completely change our teams and field a different R2 ?

I don’t think I’m worried about anyone as they all look value and provide back up if one does miss.

Try and ride their draw until the round 13 bye where others are struggling.

See what the extra $250k does for the rest of your team and the round 13 players you could otherwise consider before you knock it.

Round 14 = transition to the best 2 rucks.

Maybe not the smartest move, but I don’t think it is entirely stupid. If it pays off I figure I have more chance of beating the masses than if I go Gawndy which all the top players will do.

I didn't own either one of Gawn or Grundy at all last season and my SC season was a complete disaster so don't want to repeat that again and now Gawn is Injured.

I did have Goldy (twice or 3 times) and he outscored Gawn in the run home.

I started English & traded him to Mummy from memory which worked for a few rounds.

It's a lot of money sitting on the bench though , I guess if you are still 3-5-3 in the other positions then it is ok to try it.

Just how many times then will Nic Nat & Sauce miss ? The ideal R3 didn't get the discount he should've , otherwise I would have him at R3 .

I guess if Grundy & Gawn are going 240 a week and Nic Nat & Sauce are going 180-190 you only have to find that extra 60-50 points every round , not sure how you get that , with the money tied up with English.

I am not sure know if Grundy & Gawn even dropped to $ 600 k , if Nice Nat and Sauce git that close then they are probably scoring as premiums anyway

I don’t think the issue is so much whether Gawn plays round 1. It is more whether you are willing to pay $700k for a player coming off a compromised preseason. History would say that generally doesn’t turn out well. Gawn himself has history of not performing so well in this circumstance. I remember trading him in mid year a few years ago and he was a liability at times.

It might also mean they play Preuss more often or even give Gawn a spell. I know these are unfounded fears we have all had before however it could happen.

At this stage we have no idea how compromised his prep will be however it will be one to monitor closely.

My 2c, perhaps 1.5c worth. Melbourne were so bad last season. Gawn was great. Melbourne - Gawn = hope for early snow. They will play him if he can walk. Might also play Preuss but even when Gawn sits a kick behind the play his intercept marking is SC Gold. Melbourne need Gawn. Will he be compromised? Perhaps. But I don't see them resting him...good as Preuss is, he's no Gawn.

I agree with this, the first point is the key as I see it.

I also have a theory (which I believe the stats confirm) that more experienced/fitter rucks can go nuts, and beat up on weakened opponents in the second half of the year.

Gawn is clearly experienced and very high quality, but I wonder if he has an interrupted preseason whether he’ll be able to take full advantage of that second half of the year and get his average to elite levels.

Does this mean you guys view Ceglar as top 6-10 forward for the season?

I understand his role is reportedly changing, but he's never averaged more than 77. Would have to be a marked improvement at 29 years of age to push 90 season average?

Potentially, but would more end up the F7/R3 swing, which may be very handy this year. If he plays number 1 ruck with McEvoy down back as they did the final 3 rounds last year I can see him going at 90. Would have to be confident that this role will eventuate based on preseason matches though. Other options are Ryder or Patton and it looks like they will both play more forward
