So with McEvoy gone Tom Hickey becomes the main ruck. Unless the Saints pick up another ruck?

Anyway Hickey has averaged 58 the last two years from 12 games last year and 10 games at Gold Coast the year prior.

I don't think I would pick him but today he has gone from the 'not a chance' list to the 'at least give it some thought' list.

+1, well worth considering now as a semi cow. I'd be interested to see time in ruck or stats of games without McEvoy.

If Saints have a good early draw and don't pick up another ruck will be right up there on my list.

Any other year and Hickey would be a popular choice, but next year with Sandi and Hmac, just better 'value' options out there.
Of course pending injuries in preseason.

Very likely for me now, provided that St Kilda don't get Longer.

This from trades thread:

Bains said the Saints would now contemplate bringing in some extra ruck support for Tom Hickey
A mate of mine reckons Stanley will play second ruck if no one is brought in.

Hickey dominated mcevoy in the pre season last year to the point where big boy looked silly....
When it came to the real stuff hickey was dissapointing.
He's a watch for me.
Bit to expensive as a r3.
Hmac/sandi more appealing at there discounted price.

Although berger r1. Hmac r2 could free up the funds for hickey r3

Liking Hickey a lot next year the more I think about it (assuming the Saints don't get another ruck, or end up with a spud like West) as he seems pretty durable, has shown a lot of potential as a ruck (he was arguably better than McEvoy at rucking by the end of the season) and Goldstein in 2011 showed us just how much a ruckman can improve in SC when they become the number 1 at their club rucking solo (lifted his average from 65 to 113 that year). Thinking of going with an ultra high risk Dawson Simpson, Tom Hickey ruck combo, with Naitanui in the fwds (who can move into the ruck should either of the above completely suck).

I reckon I am going to need to watch a replay of a Saints game on fox footy this summer to get a better handle on what Hickey is actually like as a player. I honestly don't remember seeing much of him this year.

Great news for everyone.
HMac is finally over his injury woes.
Hopefully he can get a full pre-season in and stay injury free throughout 2014 season.

Although how many rucks would geelong go with on the ground next season. Looking at goldstein and minson I think sole ruckmans are the way to go.
Hopefully saints dont get jolly so hicky does most the rucking

I would think Vardy would be in their best 22 now and key forward now that J-Pod is gone. He can definitely pinch hit in the ruck.
They may find a role for Bilcavs if he improves in the pre-season.

Would be interesting though as Dawson Simpson will be knocking hard on the door.

Good. He'll provide great service for our VFL team.

Vardy will play CHF/2nd Ruck. Simpson 1st Ruck (probably do 80% if the ruckwork I think). Can't see Blics holding his spot. He'll probably need to learn to play in a different position (probably on the wing or in defence), but will probably learn this in the VFL. Macintosh will probably be back up for Simpson if he goes down (still not convinced Macintosh will ever get back on the park; always seems to pick up some injury or another). West hopefully will be traded, otherwise he is just clogging up list space.
