Nah Simpson is ahead of him IMO.
It will be interesting for Geelong, if HMac kills it next year and Geelong makes it to the Grand Final but leaves out Simpson, it could be result in the Mumford situation all over again. Swans will looking for a new Ruckman end of 2014 and Dawson fits the bill.

Simpson averaged 10 touches, 4 marks and 30 hit outs in the 6 games he played and was subbed twice at the start of the 2nd quarter when he got injured and at 3 quarter time against the hawks. Those are excellent numbers for a ruckman (especially considering the games he was subbed in) and by that stage he was well and truly best 22. By that stage he had broken even with Leuenberger for 3 quarters (he ran out of legs in the last quarter in his first game back), destroyed the Hawthorn rucks before being subbed for more run, beaten Jacobs and was towelling McEvoy before he got injured. Let's compare that to Mumford who averaged 5.3 disposals and 10.3 hit outs in 2008 and 9 d and 14.2 hitouts in 2009 and showed a bit, but was never really dominant, put in an absolute stinker of a performance just before finals and naturally got dropped to make way for Brad Ottens who is probably the best ruck to ever play for Geelong after Polly Farmer. Unlike Mumford, who clearly was too selfish to wait his turn, Simpson is one of the most passionate players in our team and there is no way Geelong are letting him go. He also has got around 7 years left in him unlike Macintosh who I doubt will even get through this year.

This may be stupid question but if Jolly is delisted and is picked up by the Saints as a delisted free agent does this mean that he will at a rookie price or the same he was before being delisted? If so he would be a good cash cow for R3 as the saints will need him.

Nah unfortunately not. His price will be based on his average this year.

Hickey will be an interesting one next year. I don't think he will be an automatic pick but a strong preseason as Saints R1 can certainly tempt some coaches.
Rhys Stanley will also be an interesting one.

Anyone considering Sam Jacobs from Adelaide or Ivan Maric, they both averaged 100+in 2012, so could be worth getting on.
i had maric in 2013. felt like i got lucky just for a ton on a fair few occasions if you compare his DT output.
he has that re occurring groin tightness? pretty sure mid 2013 the tigs acknowledged big maric would probably have to manage this area of his body throughout his career.. he didn't have a full pre season.

honestly can't even gauge if a ruck is worth it on price without a pre season to consider.

looking at:
Grundy, Sandi, Hmac, Dixon, Roughie, Cox, Kreuz, Leuy, NicNat, Big sauce.

personally won't consider goldy or big willy due to price as a starter.

With mcevoy and mummy changing clubs, i reckon theyre both really solid picks.

Mummy finished of the season brilliantly, is very underpriced due to injuries and will get all the ruck time at GWS.

Mcevoy only started scoring badly last year when Hickey started playing. He shouldnt have that problem and hawthorn, so hes a good option too.

Mummy is worth a look, but not McEvoy IMO. Firstly, he will be sharing ruck duties with Hale (so same as the Hickey situation) and secondly, I don't rate his actual ruck ability at all (I reckon even T.West is better than him in that regard), which is a big issue as hitout's are the most important scoring statistic for a ruck man (Goldstein and Minson were the best two rucks this year mainly due to their ability to accumulate a large number of hitouts).

With Giles into his 3rd year at GWS I don't think Mummy will have all the ruck time. They'll want to keep developing the youngster.

McEvoy wont have it all his way either, with Roughy and Hale both very solid ruck rotations. If McEvoy struggled with Hickey in the Saint's side, I'm unsure whether his scoring will improve given the quality of rotations at the Hawks.

If there is a limit on interchange rotations, I am considering getting a premium ruck that does most of the work as R1 - minson and goldstein. What are people's thoughts?
I think there's an element of 'chasing last year's points' there. I'm of the opinion that ruckmen who shoulder the bulk of the load in one season can't sustain it the next - due either to injury or the need to share the load by introducing a second ruck. McEvoy had one good season then struggled. Mummy had injuries after his good season. Jacobs is another who dropped off.

I suspect Minson could be in the same boat - I don't know if there is a second ruck option at the dogs to help share the load. If not, injuries could start affecting him. Either way, SC scoring could be affected.

I expect to see Majak Daw or Daniel Currie getting much more game time this season to help Goldstein out - and also to help them develop.

Tom Campbell is his backup - last year he played 6 games at an average of 59.3. He'll get more time on field next year but he'll eat Minson's points less than Currie/Daw eating Goldsteins. Hence at this stage it's Minson/Sandi/Currie/McBean for me.

Both Minson and Goldstein gave it all for their clubs this year (really supreme efforts), but from watching the odd roos/dogs game Minson was clearly in better condition physically at the end of the season, so more likely to back up with a similar sort of performance in 2014.

Currie will still be rookie priced which is excellent.
Also he signed another 2 years so I believe his loyalty will rewarded in 2014

Question to someone who knows, Minson and Goldstein both have there home ground at etihad. A small ground where the rucks can be in play most of the day and stay out in the park. Wonder if there ave was lower on the big grounds. I'm thinking the small ground helps them plodder types.

Bulldogs have 14 games at Etihad next year. Minson averaged 112.1 at Etihad this year.
